The Cubs are expected to eventually recall Shaw from Triple-A Iowa to take back over as their third baseman, Patrick Mooney and Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic report.

Shaw was sent down in mid-April after slashing only .172/.294/.241 across 68 plate appearances. The 23-year-old has a .324/.457/.487 slash line with one home run since being demoted to Iowa, including an 11-for-20 surge over the last five games. While a promotion for Shaw does not appear imminent, manager Craig Counsell confirmed that the team eventually plans to hand the third-base job back to Shaw.

Herrera (knee) clubbed a three-run home run in his first rehab game with Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.

Serving as Memphis' designated hitter, Herrera was retired in his first three plate appearances but then went deep in his final trip to the dish. He will catch five innings Friday and keep building up his defensive workload from there before rejoining the Cardinals' active roster.

Trevino went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in Thursday's 9-1 win over the Cardinals.

Trevino put the Reds up early with a two-run homer in the second inning and later delivered a run with a sacrifice fly. He's filled in well for Tyler Stephenson (oblique), posting a .909 OPS with three homers through 25 games, but Trevino's run as the primary backstop could end this weekend. Stephenson made what was expected to be his final rehab start Thursday.

Ashcraft (2-2) struck out four over three hitless and scoreless innings to earn the win over the Cardinals on Thursday.

A rain delay limited starter Andrew Abbott to four innings, prompting the need for Ashcraft to work multiple frames. Ashcraft retired all nine batters he faced, extending his streak to 13 straight batters that have failed to reach base against him, including eight retired via strikeout. He's handled the transition from starter to reliever with aplomb, posting a 0.57 ERA over 15.2 innings.

Thompson allowed one hit and struck out two over a scoreless seventh inning in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Mets.

Thompson picked up his fourth hold, serving as the first of three relievers to preserve the lead after starter Zac Gallen went six strong innings. In the wake of injuries to Arizona's co-closers A.J. Puk (elbow) and Justin Martinez (shoulder), Thompson will be part of the setup crew and could possibly get save chances. On Thursday, Thompson was followed by Kevin Ginkel in the eighth and Shelby Miller for the save in the ninth.

Tawa went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Mets.

Tawa gave the Diamondbacks a two-run cushion in the top of the ninth inning with his fifth home run. After swatting 32 home runs in two minor-league stops in 2024, Tawa has a combined eight through 25 games for Triple-A Reno and Arizona this season. It should be noted that Ketel Marte (hamstring) is with the D-backs on their road trip and could be activated for the weekend series in Philadelphia. Marte's return means fewer opportunities for Tawa and Garrett Hampson.

Perdomo went 2-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Mets.

Perdomo made an impact for a second straight day in New York, belting his fifth home run of the season in the fifth inning. After 31 games, he's one shy of the career-high six big flies he produced over 144 games in 2023. The shortstop is off to a similarly hot start as he had that season, only this time around luck (.263 BABIP) hasn't been inflating his numbers.

Ohtani (elbow) will continue throwing off a mound twice per week going forward, per MLB.com.

Ohtani took a brief pause in his throwing program upon going on the paternity list April 18, but he returned to bullpen work April 26 and is expected to resume his previous throwing schedule, which included twice-per-week bullpens, moving forward. The two-way star continues to feature as the Dodgers' leadoff hitter and primary DH, but it remains uncertain when he'll make his debut as a pitcher for Los Angeles.

Ramos went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Rockies.

After not homering since April 1, Ramos has now gone yard in consecutive outings. Over his last 17 games, the outfielder is batting .290 (18-for-62) with three RBI, three doubles, 14 runs scored and one stolen base. Ramos should continue to lead off for the Giants versus left-handed pitching, which should increase his run-scoring upside in those instances.

Reynolds (foot) has appeared in three games with Triple-A El Paso, throwing 3.1 scoreless and hitless innings while compiling a 2:3 K:BB.

Reynolds began the season on the IL due to a stress reaction in his right foot. He started a minor-league rehab stint April 22 and has gotten into three contests since. The right-hander didn't appear in any spring games due to the foot injury, so he may need a few more outings with El Paso before he's potentially activated. San Diego's bullpen has been dominant this season, but Reynolds could find a place in the big club's bullpen after excelling during a small sample size with the Padres last season, as he posted a 0.82 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 21:5 K:BB over 11 innings across nine appearances.
