Singer (5-3) took the loss Wednesday, giving up two runs on five hits and four walks over five innings as the Reds were downed 3-1 by the Pirates. He struck out three.

Cincinnati's hitters only managed four hits on the afternoon, giving Singer no margin for error, but the right-hander didn't help himself by throwing just 57 of 102 pitches for strikes. The four free passes were a season high, but he's issued multiple walks in four of his last five starts, posting a 6.29 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 14:13 K:BB over 24.1 innings during that stretch. Singer will try to get back on track in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week against Kansas City -- the team he spent the first five seasons of his career with before being traded for Jonathan India in November.

Williams and the Nationals won't play Atlanta on Wednesday after the game was postponed due to rain in Washington.

Pallante (4-3) took the loss Wednesday against the Tigers, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks across 5.2 innings. He struck out three.

After going 14.1 innings without allowing a walk in his previous two starts, Pallante issued four free passes Wednesday, matching a season high. Through 10 starts (56 innings) this year, the right-hander has pitched to a 4.18 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP and 35:20 K:BB. Pallante is currently lined up to face the Orioles on the road in his next outing.

Palencia tossed a scoreless ninth inning to record the save in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Marlins.

After blowing a save and taking the loss Monday, Palencia pitched much better Wednesday, earning his first save of the season and just his second ever at the MLB level. The righty is seeing some time in the closer role with Porter Hodge (oblique) currently on the injured list and Ryan Pressly struggling. Palencia could strengthen his grip on the job if he pitches well while Hodge is on the shelf, and he's mostly done that in 2025, as he's now sitting with a 2.16 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 16 strikeouts across 16.2 innings.

Diaz is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.

Diaz will take a seat for the second night in a row due to Martin Maldonado receiving another start behind the dish. Maldonado has gone 3-for-29 at the plate over his last 12 contests, so he doesn't yet seem to have mounted a serious case for supplanting Diaz as the Padres' preferred backstop.

Tucker went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Marlins. He also stole a base.

Tucker crushed his 12th home run of the season in his first at-bat, then continued to torment Miami pitching all afternoon. The outfielder finished the series against the Marlins with consecutive three-hit games. Tucker has been thriving in his first season in Chicago, as he has a stellar .939 OPS to go along with 14 stolen bases, which is now tied for the team lead with Pete Crow-Armstrong. The two players are also both tied with Seiya Suzuki for the team lead with 12 long balls.

Murphy is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

Murphy owns an .817 OPS for the season, but with rookie Drake Baldwin sporting an even hotter bat (.983 OPS), the playing time behind the dish has begun to tilt in the youngster's favor. The two backstops seem to be moving into a loose platoon behind the dish, as the right-handed-hitting Murphy has made each of his last three starts against left-handed pitching but now finds himself out of the lineup for a fifth straight matchup with a righty (Trevor Williams).

Young (shoulder) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.

It's the third straight contest Young has missed due to a left shoulder injury. Rookie Robert Hassell will be in center field for the Nationals in his major-league debut.

Shaw went 1-for-2 with a walk, a double, a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Marlins.

In three games since getting recalled to the majors Monday, Shaw has gone 5-for-11 with three doubles, two RBI, two runs scored and two steals. The 23-year-old rookie struggled in the big leagues to begin the year before being demoted to Triple-A Iowa in mid-April, but the top prospect has the talent to put everything together at the MLB level. Shaw should continue to be the Cubs' primary third baseman as long as he's contributing offensively.
