The Nationals recalled Hassell from Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday.

Hassell rebounded from a slow start at Rochester this season with a .339/.381/.559 batting line and four home runs so far in May. The 23-year-old's prospect shine has worn since he was included by the Padres as part of a trade package for Juan Soto, but the tools are still there and he could get an opportunity in the Washington outfield while Dylan Crews (oblique) is on the 10-day injured list and Jacob Young (shoulder) is banged up. Hassell is starting in center field and batting seventh Wednesday versus Atlanta in his major-league debut.

The Nationals placed Crews on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a left oblique strain.

Crews suffered the injury on a check swing during Tuesday's game against Atlanta. The severity of the strain has not been revealed, so it's difficult to say at this juncture how much time Crews might miss. Robert Hassell was called up from Triple-A Rochester to take Crews' spot on the roster and could get a long look in the Nationals outfield, especially with Jacob Young (shoulder) also banged up. Alex Call should also see an uptick in playing time.

The Pirates announced that Jones underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair the UCL in his right elbow. Jones is projected to return to full competition in 10-to-12 months.

Jones will miss the rest of the season, but the positive news is that his elbow procedure wasn't a standard Tommy John surgery, which would have carried a lengthier recovery timeline. The projected 10-to-12-month recovery window from surgery still likely means that Jones will open the 2026 season on the injured list, though an April or May return to the Pittsburgh rotation could be in the cards if he experiences no snags in the recovery process. Jones should be ready to begin a throwing program by the winter, and a firmer target date for his 2026 debut will likely come into focus during spring training.

McNeil is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Though he started the last time the Mets faced a lefty (Max Fried) in Sunday's 8-2 loss to the Yankees, McNeil will retreat to the bench for the series finale in Boston while southpaw Garrett Crochet toes the rubber for Boston. Luisangel Acuna will get the nod at second base and could continue to start over the left-handed-hitting McNeil more often than not when the Mets face southpaws.

Alvarez is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Boston.

After starting each of the last three games, Alvarez will get a breather in Wednesday's series finale. The Mets will turn to Luis Torrens at catcher as they try to avoid being swept.

Nimmo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Nimmo had started in every game for the Mets dating back to May 1, and the Red Sox are sending a tough southpaw (Garrett Crochet) to the hill for the series finale, so the veteran outfielder is presumably getting a planned day off Wednesday. Starling Marte will fill in for Nimmo in left field and will bat second.

Giants manager Bob Melvin said that Encarnacion (hand) is scheduled to report to the rookie-level Arizona Complex League later this week to resume his rehab assignment, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

After opening the season on the injured list while recovering from left hand surgery, Encarnacion was cleared to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on May 10, but he played in just two games before being shut down when he experienced renewed soreness. Encarnacion seems to have responded well to getting a little more than a week off to rest, so he'll head to Arizona to get some at-bats in before eventually moving his assignment back to Sacramento. Melvin said that Encarnacion isn't on track to return from the 60-day IL when first eligible May 26, but he could be activated in advance of the Giants' series in Miami next weekend. Encarnacion is likely to fill a short-side platoon role in the corner outfield or at designated hitter once he's back with the Giants.

Triple-A Albuquerque reinstated Romo (finger) from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.

Romo didn't play Tuesday in Albuquerque's 7-6 loss to Reno, but the 23-year-old backstop is healthy again after a finger injury sidelined him for the first seven weeks of the season. He was cleared to report to Albuquerque after going 3-for-16 with a walk, a stolen base, two runs and an RBI over five rehab games in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

Toglia is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Toglia has held down an everyday gig all season, but his grip on a full-time role could be starting to loosen a bit. He'll be on the bench for the second time in five games, with the Rockies once again turning to Kyle Farmer to replace him at first base. After mashing 25 home runs and reaching base at a .311 clip in 2024, Toglia has seen his slugging percentage and on-base percentage drop 89 and 39 points, respectively, from last season. Meanwhile, Toglia's strikeout rate sits at 38.6 percent so far in 2025, up more than six percentage points from a season ago.

King has been scored upon in seven of 16 appearances this season out of the Cardinals' bullpen.

King was a trusted reliever for manager Oliver Marmol the previous two seasons, collecting a 2.75 ERA across 75 appearances. The sinker baller is still inducing grounders at an elite 64.3 percent rate, but an ugly 4.91 ERA, 1.84 WHIP and 8:6 K:BB over 14.2 frames has reduced the southpaw to low-leverage appearances in 2025, as King's lone hold this season came back on Opening Day.
