  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Increases workload again in win

Suarez (5-3) earned the win against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Suarez allowed a grand slam in the third inning but was otherwise strong, throwing 63 of 93 total pitches for strikes while working into the sixth for the first time since returning from the injured list July 26. The southpaw has increased his pitch count in each of his five outings during that stretch and appears to be fully stretched out at this point. He'll carry a 3.41 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 113:33 K:BB across 113.1 innings this season into a road matchup with the Marlins next week.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Goes five innings Wednesday

Suarez did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Blue Jays, allowing one run on six hits and one walk with two strikeouts over five innings. Suarez allowed a run in the second inning but otherwise kept the Blue Jays in check, throwing 54 of 81 pitches for strikes while allowing only four hard-hit balls. The southpaw continues to increase his workload since returning from the injured list July 26, as Wednesday marked the first time he worked five frames in four outings during that stretch. He'll take a 3.25 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 110:31 K across 108 innings this season into a road matchup with the Diamondbacks next week.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Another brief outing

Suarez didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the White Sox, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks across three innings. He struck out three. After blanking Chicago for two innings, Suarez ran into trouble in the third, giving up a two-run homer to Chase Meidroth before Colson Montgomery tacked on two more runs. Suarez, who threw 70 pitches Thursday, hasn't made it through five innings in any of his three starts since returning from the IL. Overall, he sports a 3.32 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP and 108:30 K:BB through 20 starts (103 innings) with Boston this season.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Could return Sunday

Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said that Suarez (groin/illness) is an option to return from the 15-day injured list to start Sunday's series finale versus the Blue Jays at Fenway Park, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. Suarez was initially lined up to start during Red Sox's series against the Orioles earlier in the week, but his activation was delayed after he succumbed to an illness. Tracy relayed that he wants to ensure that Suarez is back to full health before taking the mound, so the Red Sox will presumably check back in with the veteran southpaw on Saturday before deciding on his availability for the series finale. If Suarez can't go Sunday, Payton Tolle would be lined up to start.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Could pitch Wednesday

Interim Red Sox manager Chad Tracy said that Suarez (groin) is in the mix to return from the 15-day injured list to start Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Orioles, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. The left-hander was scheduled to come off the injured list to start Tuesday's contest, but Eduardo Rivera was instead named the starter for that game before it was ultimately postponed due to inclement weather. Suarez is apparently experiencing some soreness after recently testing out his groin and is also feeling a bit under the weather, which prompted Boston to move back his return. Even if Suarez doesn't end up taking the mound in Wednesday's nightcap, he could still be back in the Red Sox's rotation later this week.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Not starting Tuesday

Suarez (groin) won't start Tuesday against the Orioles as previously scheduled, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. The left-hander was poised to come off the injured list to start Tuesday versus Baltimore after a two-week absence due to a groin strain, but there's now been a change of plan. It's unclear whether or not Suarez has suffered a setback, though it's possible Tuesday's rainy weather forecast is prompting Boston to exercise caution with his return, per Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston. The Red Sox should provide an update in the near future. Eduardo Rivera will now take the mound Tuesday versus the Orioles.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Confirmed to start Tuesday

Suarez (groin) will be activated from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday's game against the Orioles in Boston, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. Suarez will make his return to the bump after suffering a left groin strain in a July 5 start against the Angels. He'll aim to propel the Red Sox to a 15th consecutive victory following the team's come-from-behind 6-5 win Monday in the series opener. Suarez owns a 2.76 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with 40 strikeouts in 32.2 innings over his previous six starts.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Could be activated Tuesday

Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said Friday that Suarez (groin) could be activated from the 15-day injured list when first eligible Tuesday to start against the Orioles that night, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. Suarez was diagnosed with a left groin strain after exiting a July 5 start against the Angels, resulting him going on the IL and missing out on pitching in the All-Star Game. The southpaw's recovery from the injury seems to have gone smoothly, and barring any setbacks over the weekend, he'll be lined up to take the ball for Boston's sixth game out of the All-Star break. Suarez posted a superb 3.15 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 97:26 K:BB across 91.1 innings over his 17 starts in the first half.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Sent to IL with groin strain

The Red Sox placed Suarez on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a left groin strain. Suarez exited his previous start Sunday against the Angels due to what the Red Sox referred to as left adductor tightness, but a subsequent MRI revealed a groin strain, which will keep the southpaw out through the All-Star break and prevent him from pitching in the Midsummer Classic. Suarez earned his second All-Star nod after compiling a 3.15 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 97:26 K:BB across 91.1 innings in his first season with Boston. His turn in the rotation had been set to come up Saturday at Citi Field, and the Red Sox are now likely to call up Brayan Bello from Triple-A Worcester to either start or pitch in bulk relief in that game against the Mets.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Dealing with adductor tightness

Suarez departed his start Sunday against the Angels in the third inning due to left adductor tightness, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. He struck out five and was charged with three earned runs on six hits and no walks over 2.2 innings prior to exiting the game. Suarez suffered the injury when he made a hop toward a batted ball that resulted in a Jo Adell infield single. The lefty hurler showed noticeable discomfort after the play and was promptly removed. Given the nature of the injury, Suarez's ability to make his next start is in considerable doubt. He was recently selected to the July 14 All-Star Game, but his availability for the Midsummer Classic seems to be in jeopardy as well.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Fans eight in fourth win

Suarez (4-3) earned the win Monday, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk over six innings in a 6-3 win over the Nationals. He struck out eight. Suarez surrendered a leadoff homer to James Wood but settled in over the middle innings before allowing a two-run double to CJ Abrams in the sixth frame, though the southpaw still was credited with a quality start and the win. Monday capped off a stellar June, during which Suarez posted a 2.10 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 35:7 K:BB across 30 innings (five starts). The 30-year-old will take a 2.94 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 92:26 K:BB across 104 innings (18 starts) into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Sunday against the Angels.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Flirts with no-no Friday

Suarez (3-3) allowed one hit and three walks while striking out five over 6.2 scoreless innings to earn the win Friday over the Mariners. Suarez didn't allow a hit until Josh Naylor's one-out double in the seventh inning. After ending May in shaky form, Suarez has allowed just three runs over 18 innings while posting an 18:5 K:BB across three starts in June. The southpaw has a 2.93 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 75:24 K:BB through 76.2 innings across 14 starts this season, including six scoreless outings. He is lined up to make his next start in Colorado.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Punches out seven in no-decision

Suarez took a no-decision Saturday against the Rangers, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out seven. Suarez gave the Red Sox five strong innings while keeping the ball in the yard Saturday. The 30-year-old southpaw has tossed at least five innings in four consecutive starts, and he's also served up just a pair of home runs since the start of April after surrendering two long balls in his season debut. Suarez will take a strong 3.21 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 70:21 K:BB across 70 innings into his next scheduled outing at pitcher-friendly T-Mobile Park in Seattle.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Sharp in no-decision

Suarez did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Yankees, allowing a run on six hits over 6.1 innings. He struck out six. It was a strong effort from Suarez, who made it through six innings for the first time since April 27, as he held the Yankees scoreless until Paul Goldschmidt's two-out RBI single in the fifth. Suarez had been struggling coming into the day, allowing nine runs over 10 innings in his previous two outings. Overall, his ERA sits at 3.18 with a 1.14 WHIP and 63:19 K:BB across 12 starts (65 innings) this season. Suarez is tentatively lined up to face the Rangers at home in his next start.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Quick hook was precautionary

Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy's decision to pull Suarez in the sixth inning Thursday after 76 pitches was due to the left-hander "starting to fatigue" an inning earlier, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. Suarez was cruising against the Phillies, his former team, before getting the hook after 5.1 scoreless frames. "Based on the fact that he hadn't thrown in 11, 12 days, it felt like that was the right time to cut it," Tracy added after the game. While Suarez was never told he was under a pitch count, the pitcher believed he would be held to around 75-80 pitches. He shouldn't have any restrictions for his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week in Kansas City.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Pushed back to next week

Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said Friday that Suarez's (hamstring) next start will come next week "sometime in the Philly series," Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. Suarez had to be lifted from his last start with right hamstring tightness. His next turn had been lined up for this weekend against the Rays, but the Red Sox have elected to give the southpaw a bit more rest. Payton Tolle will move up a day to take the ball Saturday, and Brayan Bello will pitch Sunday, either as a traditional starter or bulk reliever.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Not expected to undergo MRI

Suarez isn't expected to require an MRI for the right hamstring injury he sustained in Sunday's 3-1 extra-inning loss to the Astros and expects to be ready to go for his next scheduled start, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. Suarez was lifted in the fifth inning due to hamstring tightness, but the Red Sox don't view the issue as being significant enough to warrant imaging. The 30-year-old lefty was confident following Sunday's game that he will avoid a stint on the injured list, noting that he was able to pitch through a similar injury last season, per Marcos Grunfeld of ElEmergente.com. Suarez is set to remain in Boston while the team travels to Detroit for a three-game set beginning Monday. The southpaw will be monitored by the training staff, and the hope is that he'll be good to go the next time his turn in the rotation comes up Friday at home versus the Rays.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Dealing with hamstring tightness

Suarez was removed from Sunday's start against the Astros due to right hamstring tightness, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. Suarez fired four scoreless frames before being forced to depart due to the injury. The severity of the issue isn't yet known, but that fact it isn't an arm injury is an encouraging development. The left-hander's status for his next turn through the rotation, which lines up for next weekend at home versus the Rays, remains unclear.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Bounces back with dominant start

Suarez (2-2) earned the win over Toronto on Monday, allowing one hit and issuing one walk while striking out 10 batters over eight scoreless innings. Suarez was hit hard in his previous start, giving up four runs over 4.2 innings against the Yankees. He turned things around dramatically versus the Blue Jays, yielding just one hit -- a double -- and racking up 14 whiffs en route to a season-high 10 punchouts. Suarez got through his eight frames on 105 pitches and retired the final nine batters he faced. The lefty has run extremely hot or cold this season, giving up exactly four runs in fewer than five innings three times while surrendering zero runs over 22 frames in his other three starts combined. It's all added up to a 3.09 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 29:9 K:BB through six starts for Suarez.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Ambushed in second loss

Suarez (1-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Yankees, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks in 4.2 innings. He struck out four. The Yankees ambushed Suarez for three runs in the opening frame, but the hurler was at least able to settle in and hold New York to just one run over his next 3.2 innings of work. Suarez has been a boom-or-bust fantasy play so far, tossing at least six scoreless innings in two starts while giving up four runs in fewer than five frames in his other three outings. The southpaw will be searching for some consistency his next time out in Toronto, where he'll carry a 4.00 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 19:8 K:BB through 27 frames.
