  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Sent to IL with groin strain

The Red Sox placed Suarez on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a left groin strain. Suarez exited his previous start Sunday against the Angels due to what the Red Sox referred to as left adductor tightness, but a subsequent MRI revealed a groin strain, which will keep the southpaw out through the All-Star break and prevent him from pitching in the Midsummer Classic. Suarez earned his second All-Star nod after compiling a 3.15 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 97:26 K:BB across 91.1 innings in his first season with Boston. His turn in the rotation had been set to come up Saturday at Citi Field, and the Red Sox are now likely to call up Brayan Bello from Triple-A Worcester to either start or pitch in bulk relief in that game against the Mets.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Hopeful of avoiding injured list

The Red Sox "remain hopeful" Suarez (adductor) can avoid the 15-day injured list, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Suarez was forced from Sunday's outing against the Angels in the third inning due to left adductor tightness. He will be re-evaluated Tuesday, at which point the Red Sox will have a better idea as to whether Suarez can make his next start which is tentatively lined up for Saturday against the Mets. With the All-Star break looming, the Red Sox could play it safe and hold Suarez out. Suarez made the All-Star team, but there's a good chance he'll be replaced on the AL roster.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Dealing with adductor tightness

Suarez departed his start Sunday against the Angels in the third inning due to left adductor tightness, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. He struck out five and was charged with three earned runs on six hits and no walks over 2.2 innings prior to exiting the game. Suarez suffered the injury when he made a hop toward a batted ball that resulted in a Jo Adell infield single. The lefty hurler showed noticeable discomfort after the play and was promptly removed. Given the nature of the injury, Suarez's ability to make his next start is in considerable doubt. He was recently selected to the July 14 All-Star Game, but his availability for the Midsummer Classic seems to be in jeopardy as well.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Fans eight in fourth win

Suarez (4-3) earned the win Monday, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk over six innings in a 6-3 win over the Nationals. He struck out eight. Suarez surrendered a leadoff homer to James Wood but settled in over the middle innings before allowing a two-run double to CJ Abrams in the sixth frame, though the southpaw still was credited with a quality start and the win. Monday capped off a stellar June, during which Suarez posted a 2.10 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 35:7 K:BB across 30 innings (five starts). The 30-year-old will take a 2.94 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 92:26 K:BB across 104 innings (18 starts) into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Sunday against the Angels.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Flirts with no-no Friday

Suarez (3-3) allowed one hit and three walks while striking out five over 6.2 scoreless innings to earn the win Friday over the Mariners. Suarez didn't allow a hit until Josh Naylor's one-out double in the seventh inning. After ending May in shaky form, Suarez has allowed just three runs over 18 innings while posting an 18:5 K:BB across three starts in June. The southpaw has a 2.93 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 75:24 K:BB through 76.2 innings across 14 starts this season, including six scoreless outings. He is lined up to make his next start in Colorado.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Punches out seven in no-decision

Suarez took a no-decision Saturday against the Rangers, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out seven. Suarez gave the Red Sox five strong innings while keeping the ball in the yard Saturday. The 30-year-old southpaw has tossed at least five innings in four consecutive starts, and he's also served up just a pair of home runs since the start of April after surrendering two long balls in his season debut. Suarez will take a strong 3.21 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 70:21 K:BB across 70 innings into his next scheduled outing at pitcher-friendly T-Mobile Park in Seattle.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Sharp in no-decision

Suarez did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Yankees, allowing a run on six hits over 6.1 innings. He struck out six. It was a strong effort from Suarez, who made it through six innings for the first time since April 27, as he held the Yankees scoreless until Paul Goldschmidt's two-out RBI single in the fifth. Suarez had been struggling coming into the day, allowing nine runs over 10 innings in his previous two outings. Overall, his ERA sits at 3.18 with a 1.14 WHIP and 63:19 K:BB across 12 starts (65 innings) this season. Suarez is tentatively lined up to face the Rangers at home in his next start.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Quick hook was precautionary

Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy's decision to pull Suarez in the sixth inning Thursday after 76 pitches was due to the left-hander "starting to fatigue" an inning earlier, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. Suarez was cruising against the Phillies, his former team, before getting the hook after 5.1 scoreless frames. "Based on the fact that he hadn't thrown in 11, 12 days, it felt like that was the right time to cut it," Tracy added after the game. While Suarez was never told he was under a pitch count, the pitcher believed he would be held to around 75-80 pitches. He shouldn't have any restrictions for his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week in Kansas City.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Pushed back to next week

Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said Friday that Suarez's (hamstring) next start will come next week "sometime in the Philly series," Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. Suarez had to be lifted from his last start with right hamstring tightness. His next turn had been lined up for this weekend against the Rays, but the Red Sox have elected to give the southpaw a bit more rest. Payton Tolle will move up a day to take the ball Saturday, and Brayan Bello will pitch Sunday, either as a traditional starter or bulk reliever.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Not expected to undergo MRI

Suarez isn't expected to require an MRI for the right hamstring injury he sustained in Sunday's 3-1 extra-inning loss to the Astros and expects to be ready to go for his next scheduled start, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. Suarez was lifted in the fifth inning due to hamstring tightness, but the Red Sox don't view the issue as being significant enough to warrant imaging. The 30-year-old lefty was confident following Sunday's game that he will avoid a stint on the injured list, noting that he was able to pitch through a similar injury last season, per Marcos Grunfeld of ElEmergente.com. Suarez is set to remain in Boston while the team travels to Detroit for a three-game set beginning Monday. The southpaw will be monitored by the training staff, and the hope is that he'll be good to go the next time his turn in the rotation comes up Friday at home versus the Rays.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Dealing with hamstring tightness

Suarez was removed from Sunday's start against the Astros due to right hamstring tightness, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. Suarez fired four scoreless frames before being forced to depart due to the injury. The severity of the issue isn't yet known, but that fact it isn't an arm injury is an encouraging development. The left-hander's status for his next turn through the rotation, which lines up for next weekend at home versus the Rays, remains unclear.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Bounces back with dominant start

Suarez (2-2) earned the win over Toronto on Monday, allowing one hit and issuing one walk while striking out 10 batters over eight scoreless innings. Suarez was hit hard in his previous start, giving up four runs over 4.2 innings against the Yankees. He turned things around dramatically versus the Blue Jays, yielding just one hit -- a double -- and racking up 14 whiffs en route to a season-high 10 punchouts. Suarez got through his eight frames on 105 pitches and retired the final nine batters he faced. The lefty has run extremely hot or cold this season, giving up exactly four runs in fewer than five innings three times while surrendering zero runs over 22 frames in his other three starts combined. It's all added up to a 3.09 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 29:9 K:BB through six starts for Suarez.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Ambushed in second loss

Suarez (1-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Yankees, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks in 4.2 innings. He struck out four. The Yankees ambushed Suarez for three runs in the opening frame, but the hurler was at least able to settle in and hold New York to just one run over his next 3.2 innings of work. Suarez has been a boom-or-bust fantasy play so far, tossing at least six scoreless innings in two starts while giving up four runs in fewer than five frames in his other three outings. The southpaw will be searching for some consistency his next time out in Toronto, where he'll carry a 4.00 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 19:8 K:BB through 27 frames.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Tosses six scoreless in win

Suarez (1-1) earned the win against the Cardinals on Saturday, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out six over six scoreless innings. Suarez cruised through six frames, throwing 55 of 84 pitches for strikes while limiting the Cardinals to only singles. It was a much-needed effort for the 30-year-old, who picked up his first win with the Red Sox after allowing four earned runs in each of his first two outings this season. He'll carry a 5.02 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 11:5 K:BB across 14.1 innings into a home matchup against the Tigers next weekend.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Fits in three innings

Suarez allowed one run on two hits while striking out two over three innings in Sunday's start against the Orioles. Suarez allowed his lone run in the second inning when he had a few long at-bats against Baltimore hitters. He was at 34 pitches after two innings, 11 shy of his 45-pitch limit, but the lefty managed to get three outs quickly in his final inning. He's made two Grapefruit League starts and will depart camp for the World Baseball Classic, where Suarez will compete for Team Venezuela.

  • Ranger Suarez: Rejects Phillies' qualifying offer

Suarez rejected the Phillies' one-year, $22.025 million qualifying offer Tuesday, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports. By extending Suarez the qualifying offer, the Phillies will now obtain a draft pick if the left-hander signs with a new team in free agency. Suarez has never made 30 starts or thrown 160 innings in a big-league season, but he's been incredibly valuable nonetheless, collecting a 3.25 ERA since the start of the 2021 campaign.

  • Ranger Suarez: Receives qualifying offer

The Phillies extended a one-year, $22.05 million qualifying offer to Suarez on Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Suarez is coming off an excellent 2025 season in which he posted a 3.20 ERA and a 151:38 K:BB over 157.1 regular-season innings, which he capped off with just one run allowed in five postseason frames. Suarez will turn 30 next August, and he'll likely decline the qualifying offer in pursuit of a multi-year deal. If he leaves Philadelphia, the Phillies will receive draft compensation.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Goes five strong in bulk relief

Suarez (1-0) spun five innings of one-run ball out of the bullpen to pick up the victory in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Dodgers in Game 3 of the NLDS. Aaron Nola drew the start for the Phillies but was lifted after two scoreless frames in favor of Suarez. The left-hander served up a solo home run to the first batter he faced in Tommy Edman, but Suarez settled in after that, holding the Dodgers off the scoreboard on four hits and one walk while striking out five. It's unlikely Suarez will be available to pitch for the rest of the NLDS, but he'll either be part of the Phillies' rotation or continue to operate in a bulk-relief role should his team advance to the NLCS.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Will pitch in Game 3

Suarez (thigh) will follow starter Aaron Nola in Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the Dodgers on Wednesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Suarez hasn't pitched since his last start of the regular season Sept. 27 against the Twins, when he exited after being struck by a comebacker. Nola will be tasked with starting Wednesday's matchup, but considering the Phillies are facing elimination, Suarez could be called on at any time.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Exits early Saturday

Suarez (thigh) exited Saturday's contest against the Twins in the fifth inning, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Suarez was hit in the groin area by a comebacker in the top of the fifth, ultimately leaving the contest thereafter. The left-hander was laughing as he walked off, and the team deemed it to be an inner-thigh contusion on his left leg. More information on his status will likely be provided in the near future, but in the meantime, Max Lazar replaced him on the mound versus Minnesota.
