  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Making next start Thursday

Suarez (hamstring) is scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Phillies in Boston, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. After he was lifted early in his most recent start May 3 against the Astros due to right hamstring tightness, Suarez had a turn through the rotation skipped but looks set to avoid a stint on the injured list. He'll end up returning to the mound on 10 days' rest to face his former team for the first time since signing a lavish five-year deal with Boston over the winter. The veteran southpaw has gotten off to a strong start to his inaugural campaign with the Red Sox, going 2-2 with a 2.77 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 32:10 K:BB in 39 innings through his first seven outings.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Pushed back to next week

Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said Friday that Suarez's (hamstring) next start will come next week "sometime in the Philly series," Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. Suarez had to be lifted from his last start with right hamstring tightness. His next turn had been lined up for this weekend against the Rays, but the Red Sox have elected to give the southpaw a bit more rest. Payton Tolle will move up a day to take the ball Saturday, and Brayan Bello will pitch Sunday, either as a traditional starter or bulk reliever.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Not expected to undergo MRI

Suarez isn't expected to require an MRI for the right hamstring injury he sustained in Sunday's 3-1 extra-inning loss to the Astros and expects to be ready to go for his next scheduled start, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. Suarez was lifted in the fifth inning due to hamstring tightness, but the Red Sox don't view the issue as being significant enough to warrant imaging. The 30-year-old lefty was confident following Sunday's game that he will avoid a stint on the injured list, noting that he was able to pitch through a similar injury last season, per Marcos Grunfeld of ElEmergente.com. Suarez is set to remain in Boston while the team travels to Detroit for a three-game set beginning Monday. The southpaw will be monitored by the training staff, and the hope is that he'll be good to go the next time his turn in the rotation comes up Friday at home versus the Rays.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Dealing with hamstring tightness

Suarez was removed from Sunday's start against the Astros due to right hamstring tightness, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. Suarez fired four scoreless frames before being forced to depart due to the injury. The severity of the issue isn't yet known, but that fact it isn't an arm injury is an encouraging development. The left-hander's status for his next turn through the rotation, which lines up for next weekend at home versus the Rays, remains unclear.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Bounces back with dominant start

Suarez (2-2) earned the win over Toronto on Monday, allowing one hit and issuing one walk while striking out 10 batters over eight scoreless innings. Suarez was hit hard in his previous start, giving up four runs over 4.2 innings against the Yankees. He turned things around dramatically versus the Blue Jays, yielding just one hit -- a double -- and racking up 14 whiffs en route to a season-high 10 punchouts. Suarez got through his eight frames on 105 pitches and retired the final nine batters he faced. The lefty has run extremely hot or cold this season, giving up exactly four runs in fewer than five innings three times while surrendering zero runs over 22 frames in his other three starts combined. It's all added up to a 3.09 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 29:9 K:BB through six starts for Suarez.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Ambushed in second loss

Suarez (1-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Yankees, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks in 4.2 innings. He struck out four. The Yankees ambushed Suarez for three runs in the opening frame, but the hurler was at least able to settle in and hold New York to just one run over his next 3.2 innings of work. Suarez has been a boom-or-bust fantasy play so far, tossing at least six scoreless innings in two starts while giving up four runs in fewer than five frames in his other three outings. The southpaw will be searching for some consistency his next time out in Toronto, where he'll carry a 4.00 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 19:8 K:BB through 27 frames.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Throws eight scoreless Friday

Suarez did not factor into the decision in Friday's 1-0 extra-inning win over the Tigers, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out four over eight scoreless innings. Suarez worked eight strong innings but was locked in a pitchers' duel with Casey Mize for most of the contest. Despite throwing just 55 of 93 pitches for strikes and generating only four whiffs, the 30-year-old has now tossed 14 straight scoreless frames without allowing an extra-base hit after yielding eight combined runs over his first two starts with the Red Sox. He'll carry a 3.22 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 15:6 K:BB across 22.1 innings into a home matchup against the Yankees next week.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Tosses six scoreless in win

Suarez (1-1) earned the win against the Cardinals on Saturday, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out six over six scoreless innings. Suarez cruised through six frames, throwing 55 of 84 pitches for strikes while limiting the Cardinals to only singles. It was a much-needed effort for the 30-year-old, who picked up his first win with the Red Sox after allowing four earned runs in each of his first two outings this season. He'll carry a 5.02 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 11:5 K:BB across 14.1 innings into a home matchup against the Tigers next weekend.

  • Red Sox's Ranger Suarez: Fits in three innings

Suarez allowed one run on two hits while striking out two over three innings in Sunday's start against the Orioles. Suarez allowed his lone run in the second inning when he had a few long at-bats against Baltimore hitters. He was at 34 pitches after two innings, 11 shy of his 45-pitch limit, but the lefty managed to get three outs quickly in his final inning. He's made two Grapefruit League starts and will depart camp for the World Baseball Classic, where Suarez will compete for Team Venezuela.

  • Ranger Suarez: Rejects Phillies' qualifying offer

Suarez rejected the Phillies' one-year, $22.025 million qualifying offer Tuesday, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports. By extending Suarez the qualifying offer, the Phillies will now obtain a draft pick if the left-hander signs with a new team in free agency. Suarez has never made 30 starts or thrown 160 innings in a big-league season, but he's been incredibly valuable nonetheless, collecting a 3.25 ERA since the start of the 2021 campaign.

  • Ranger Suarez: Receives qualifying offer

The Phillies extended a one-year, $22.05 million qualifying offer to Suarez on Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Suarez is coming off an excellent 2025 season in which he posted a 3.20 ERA and a 151:38 K:BB over 157.1 regular-season innings, which he capped off with just one run allowed in five postseason frames. Suarez will turn 30 next August, and he'll likely decline the qualifying offer in pursuit of a multi-year deal. If he leaves Philadelphia, the Phillies will receive draft compensation.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Goes five strong in bulk relief

Suarez (1-0) spun five innings of one-run ball out of the bullpen to pick up the victory in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Dodgers in Game 3 of the NLDS. Aaron Nola drew the start for the Phillies but was lifted after two scoreless frames in favor of Suarez. The left-hander served up a solo home run to the first batter he faced in Tommy Edman, but Suarez settled in after that, holding the Dodgers off the scoreboard on four hits and one walk while striking out five. It's unlikely Suarez will be available to pitch for the rest of the NLDS, but he'll either be part of the Phillies' rotation or continue to operate in a bulk-relief role should his team advance to the NLCS.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Will pitch in Game 3

Suarez (thigh) will follow starter Aaron Nola in Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the Dodgers on Wednesday, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Suarez hasn't pitched since his last start of the regular season Sept. 27 against the Twins, when he exited after being struck by a comebacker. Nola will be tasked with starting Wednesday's matchup, but considering the Phillies are facing elimination, Suarez could be called on at any time.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Exits early Saturday

Suarez (thigh) exited Saturday's contest against the Twins in the fifth inning, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Suarez was hit in the groin area by a comebacker in the top of the fifth, ultimately leaving the contest thereafter. The left-hander was laughing as he walked off, and the team deemed it to be an inner-thigh contusion on his left leg. More information on his status will likely be provided in the near future, but in the meantime, Max Lazar replaced him on the mound versus Minnesota.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Jumped on early in loss

Suarez (12-7) took the loss Sunday against the Diamondbacks, giving up six runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out two over four innings. Suarez was tagged for all six runs in the first two frames, capped off by a three-run homer from Corbin Carroll, before finishing the day with back-to-back clean innings. The rough outing snapped a dominant stretch in which the right-hander had posted a 1.47 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 44:8 K:BB across his previous six starts, including a trio of double-digit strikeout games. It also marked his shortest outing since May 4, when he was tagged for seven runs in 3.1 innings. The 30-year-old now sits at a 3.12 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 147:38 K:BB over 153 innings and is slated for his next start against the Twins.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Turns in quality start

Suarez allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five over six innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Monday. Suarez wasn't at his best, allowing a solo home run to Max Muncy and a pair of sacrifice flies to Mookie Betts, but it was still enough for a quality start. This was the first time in five starts Suarez has allowed multiple runs -- he's surrendered just four runs over 30 innings in that span. For the season, he's produced a 2.84 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 145:37 K:BB through 149 innings over 24 starts. The veteran southpaw is projected for a home start versus the Marlins next week if the Phillies continue to deploy a six-man rotation.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Fans 12 in dominant win

Suarez (12-6) allowed a hit and three walks over six shutout frames Tuesday, striking out 12 and earning a win over the Mets. Suarez rolled through the Mets' lineup with ease and let only one runner reach scoring position. He racked up a season-high 12 punchouts and has double-digit strikeouts in three of his last five outings. Suarez did not produce double-digit strikeouts in any of his first 18 starts. Over his last five appearances, he's 4-0 with a 0.88 ERA over 30.2 innings. Suarez has dropped his season ERA to 2.77 with a 140:33 K:BB through 143 innings. He's currently projected for a road matchup with the Dodgers next week.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Six shutout frames in 11th win

Suarez (11-6) picked up the win Thursday against the Brewers, allowing six hits and two walks in six scoreless innings. He struck out four. Suarez has now given up one run or zero while throwing at least five innings in three straight starts. The left-hander has also logged a quality start in three of his last four outings, and he's worked at least five frames in eight consecutive appearances as well. Suarez boasts a 2.89 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 128:32 K:BB over his 137 innings, and he's next in line for a stiff assignment against a Mets team with an .845 OPS versus left-handed pitching since the beginning of August.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Dodges damage in no-decision

Suarez didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 2-1 win over Atlanta, allowing one run on 10 hits and one walk over five innings. He struck out two. The lefty didn't have his best stuff and dealt with runners in scoring position during every inning he worked, but Suarez was able to limit the damage and leave the mound after 92 pitches (58 strikes) with the score tied 1-1. It was an abrupt fall back to earth after he'd struck out 23 batters in 13.2 innings while winning his prior two outings, but he appears to be back on track after stumbling to a 6.59 ERA over his first five trips to the mound coming out of the All-Star break. Suarez faces a tough challenge in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Milwaukee.

  • Phillies' Ranger Suarez: Career-high 11 strikeouts in win

Suarez (10-6) earned the win against the Nationals on Sunday, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out 11 over seven scoreless innings. Sanchez was masterful, firing 63 of 90 pitches for strikes with 16 whiffs while racking up double-digit strikeouts for the second straight start. Despite a 4.45 ERA over five August outings, he's logged three quality starts with an impressive 32:2 K:BB in that span. On the year, the 29-year-old owns a 3.07 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 122:29 K:BB across 126 innings and lines up for a home matchup with Atlanta next weekend.
