The Giants optioned Beck to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Beck was needed for 1.1 innings out of the bullpen in Monday's loss to Atlanta, so he's being sent out to the minors in favor of fresh relief help. The righty has pitched exclusively in relief this season and presumably will remain in the bullpen at Sacramento.

The Giants optioned Birdsong to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The transaction comes one day after Birdsong failed to record an out while allowing five runs on one hit and four walks in a loss to Atlanta. The disastrous outing was more than just a one-start blip for the righty, as Birdsong had collected a 10.38 ERA and 17:18 K:BB across 17.1 innings covering his last five outings. Carson Seymour has been recalled from Sacramento and could take Birdsong's spot in the rotation, with Mason Black and Carson Whisenhunt also representing options.

Solometo was pulled off his rehab assignment with Single-A Bradenton in late June after he experienced recurrent shoulder discomfort, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

After allowing just one run over 10 innings in his first two starts of the season for Double-A Altoona, Solometo was placed on the 7-day injured list due to shoulder soreness. He was later transferred to the 60-day IL, but he appeared on track to rejoin the Altoona rotation shortly before the All-Star break after he was cleared to join Bradenton for a rehab assignment June 18. However, after being roughed up for three runs (two earned) while retiring just two batters in his lone start with Bradenton, Solometo was pulled off the assignment and now remains without a clear timeline to resume pitching. Once regarded as one of the more promising pitching prospects in the Pittsburgh system, Solometo struggled mightily at the Double-A level in 2024, and his persistent shoulder problems this season have his arrow trending down even further.

While Suzuki started in center field Monday with Pete Crow-Armstrong (knee) out of the lineup, the team would like to add depth at the position before the trade deadline and not rely on Suzuki to fill in, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.

Monday marked Suzuki's first career MLB appearance in center field, as he's primarily played in right or served as the DH for the Cubs since coming over from Japan in 2022. The team started him there out of necessity with Crow-Armstrong's sore knee keeping him out of the lineup, but Chicago seems likely to target a veteran center fielder before the deadline to provide insurance. When fully healthy, the Cubs will roll out Ian Happ, Crow-Armstrong and Kyle Tucker from left to right most days, with Suzuki sliding back into the DH role. The latter has excelled in that role this year, as his 26 home runs and 80 RBI are both among the top six in the majors.

Valdez is batting .182 with zero home runs and an 8:4 K:BB in 10 games since getting promoted from High-A Greensboro to Double-A Altoona on July 1.

A righty-hitting corner bat who won't offer much defensive value, Valdez slashed .303/.385/.592 with 20 home runs, a 9.9 percent walk rate and a 24.5 percent strikeout rate in 72 games at High-A prior to his promotion. His 172 wRC+ ranks second among all qualified High-A hitters, behind Josue Briceno (180 wRC+). As a 21-year-old bat-first player, Valdez will be expected to do plenty of damage at Double-A over the rest of the season.

Oviedo (lat/elbow) struck out three and allowed one earned run on three hits and no walks over 3.1 innings in his rehab start with Double-A Altoona on Friday.

Oviedo has now completed four starts during his rehab assignment, which began June 30 in the rookie-level Florida Complex League before he moved up to Single-A Bradenton and then Altoona. He built up to 53 pitches in Friday's outing and may need to make another appearance or two in the minors before he's stretched out enough to handle a typical starter's workload. According to Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Oviedo returned to Pittsburgh on Monday to meet with team doctors and complete a bullpen session, but he's expected to resume his assignment at Altoona or Triple-A Indianapolis later on this week.

Flores went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Monday's 9-5 loss to Atlanta.

The 33-year-old first baseman got the starting nod against right-hander Bryce Elder and lined a double to right field in the second inning before coming around to score. Flores later added a single in the fourth, marking his third multi-hit effort over his last seven games. During that span, he's slashed .320/.370/.360 with two runs scored and one double across 27 plate appearances.

Chapman went 2-for-4 with two RBI, a double and a walk in Monday's 9-5 loss to Atlanta.

Chapman drove in the Giants' first run on an RBI single in the first inning and added an RBI double in the ninth. The 32-year-old has recorded two hits in back-to-back outings, and Monday's game marked his third multi-hit effort since returning from a sprained right hand July 5. The third baseman has appeared in 12 games this month, slashing .213/.275/.319 with nine runs scored, five RBI, two doubles and one home run across 51 plate appearances.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that Scott will "most likely" land on the 15-day injured list after the southpaw felt a "sting" in his left forearm during his relief appearance in Monday's 5-2 win over the Twins, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Summoned from the bullpen with two outs in the top of the eighth inning, Scott induced a Harrison Bader lineout to preserve the Dodgers' four-run lead. He then retired one of the first three batters he faced in the top of the ninth before he was visited on the mound by a team trainer after he was in obvious discomfort when he threw a slider in the dirt in the first pitch of Ryan Jeffers' at-bat. Though an X-ray and manual testing on Scott yielded positive results, the 31-year-old southpaw is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday as the Dodgers look to determine the full extent of his injury. With a stint on the IL likely on tap for Scott, the Dodgers could turn to Kirby Yates -- who collected the save Monday -- and Alex Vesia as their preferred options to close out games. Expect Los Angeles to also seek upgrades to the back end of the bullpen leading up to the July 31 trade deadline, as Scott is just the latest in a long line of high-profile Dodgers relievers to go down with an injury.

Henry gave up a hit and a walk while striking out one in a scoreless fifth inning Monday to record his third hold of the season in a win over the Reds.

Starter Jake Irvin didn't make it out of the fourth inning, and Henry was one of six Nationals relievers to take the mound in a wild 10-8 victory. The 26-year-old righty has been effective in his first big-league season, posting a 3.50 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 35:18 K:BB over 36 innings, and if closer Kyle Finnegan gets shipped out at the trade deadline, Henry could get an audition in the ninth inning down the stretch.
