  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Logs no-decision in Game 2 of twin bill

Lowder completed 6.2 innings in the second game of Monday's doubleheader against St. Louis, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five batters in a no-decision. Lowder began the outing well, getting through three scoreless frames with only one hit and one walk on his ledger. However, the Cardinals got to him for two runs on four hits in the fourth before striking for another pair of runs in the sixth. Though Lowder wasn't able to record a quality start, he did tie his longest outing of the season -- he had previously tossed 6.2 frames in a win over San Francisco on April 15. The right-hander will carry a mediocre 5.17 ERA into his next appearance, which is lined up to take place in Arizona.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Gets no help in loss

Lowder (4-8) allowed two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over 5.1 innings to take the loss versus the White Sox on Wednesday. Lowder has allowed eight runs over 22.1 innings across his last four starts, but he has just one win in that span. The 24-year-old threw 59 of 94 pitches for strikes Wednesday and has had mixed results throughout the year, posting a 5.15 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 77:40 K:BB through 94.1 innings over 21 games (18 starts). His recent work has been mostly effective -- he's given up more than two runs just once in eight appearances since the beginning of July. Lowder's next outing is projected to be at home versus the Cardinals.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Great outing in win

Lowder (4-7) secured the win Wednesday versus the Athletics, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out three. Lowder picked up his second straight quality start Wednesday and also got his first win since April 20. After a rough start in which he gave up eight runs in 2.1 frames July 18 in Colorado, Lowder has given up six earned runs over 17 innings (3.18 ERA) with a 12:4 K:BB in his last three outings. The 24-year-old is tentatively scheduled to pitch next week against the White Sox.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Six strong innings in no-decision

Lowder took a no-decision Thursday against Pittsburgh, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out five. Lowder cruised through four shutout innings to begin the evening in what was ultimately one of his better showings of the campaign. The right-hander logged a quality start, just his fourth of the year and first since way back on April 20, while the five punchouts were his most in his past six appearances. He should get at least one more turn through the rotation next week against the Athletics due to Nick Lodolo's (finger) absence. Lowder holds a 5.42 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 70:37 K:BB over 83 innings.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Drawing another start

Lowder is slated to start Friday's game against the Cardinals in St. Louis. After heading to the bullpen shortly before the All-Star break, Lowder shifted back into the rotation to open the second half of the season after Cincinnati placed Nick Lodolo (finger) on the injured list. Making his 14th start of the campaign this past Saturday at Coors Field, Lowder was roughed up for eight earned runs on 11 hits over 2.1 innings, inflating his ERA up to 5.75. He'll get a chance to right the ship Friday, but regardless of how he performs, he'll likely be headed back to the bullpen or to Triple-A Louisville once Lodolo is ready to come off the IL.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Chased in third inning

Lowder (3-7) took the loss against the Rockies on Saturday, allowing eight runs on 11 hits while striking out two across 2.1 innings. He did not issue a walk. Lowder was briefly shifted to the bullpen in early July, but coming out of the All-Star break, he was back in the rotation after Nick Lodolo (finger) was placed on the 15-day injured list this past Sunday. Lowder got off to a rough start to the second half of the season, giving up at least two runs in each of the three frames he pitched. The eight runs and 11 hits he surrendered Saturday both matched career highs set earlier in the year, and Lowder sits at a 5.75 ERA and 1.64 WHIP across 72 innings this season. Assuming he gets another turn in the rotation, Lowder is lined up to face the Cardinals on the road next weekend.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Returning to rotation

Reds manager Terry Francona said Sunday that Lowder will rejoin the starting rotation after the All-Star break, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports. The right-hander was shifted to the bullpen last week after Hunter Greene was cleared to come off the injured list and will now re-enter the rotation following Nick Lodolo's (finger) placement on the injured list Sunday. Lowder -- who will be available out of the bullpen for Sunday's game against the Cubs -- has pitched well in his two relief outings with just one run allowed over five frames. He posted a 5.31 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over his 13 starts.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Fans eight, tagged for six runs

Lowder (3-6) took the loss Tuesday against the Brewers, allowing six runs on 11 hits and one walk while striking out eight over 4.2 innings. Lowder flashed electric stuff early, coming one pitch shy of an immaculate inning in the first and recording another strikeout-filled frame in the third. However, things unraveled in the fourth, as he surrendered six singles -- five consecutively -- leading to four runs. The right-hander returned for the fifth, but Jake Bauers greeted him by sending the first pitch over the fence for a solo homer. While the eight strikeouts established a new career high, so did the 11 hits allowed. Lowder has not completed six innings since April 20 and has posted a 0-5 record with a 7.22 ERA across 33.2 innings since. He is set to face Baltimore at home his next time out.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Hit hard in Friday's loss

Lowder (3-4) took the loss Friday as the Reds were blanked 5-0 by the Yankees, giving up four runs on six hits and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out five. While the right-hander didn't get any help from his offense, Lowder also gave up plenty of loud contact. Half the hits off him went for extra bases, including second-inning homers by Jazz Chisholm and Ben Rice that accounted for all the damage off Lowder. He's also issued multiple free passes in five straight starts, stumbling to a 7.85 ERA, 1.96 WHIP and 17:18 K:BB in 18.1 innings over that stretch. With Hunter Greene (elbow) having begun a rehab assignment, the clock is likely ticking on Lowder's time in the big-league rotation. He'll look to right the ship in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Brewers.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Shows improved control Saturday

Lowder allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out six batters over 5.2 innings in a no-decision against Arizona on Saturday. Lowder returned from a one-month absence in his previous start and looked quite rusty, issuing five walks over three scoreless innings. The right-hander was much more in control Saturday, handing out a tolerable two free passes and throwing 62 of 96 pitches for strikes. Lowder also racked up a solid 15 whiffs and fanned six batters, and the only run he allowed came on a first-inning homer by Corbin Carroll. This was a promising outing for Lowder, but he's projected for a tough challenge his next time out, as he's lined up for a road matchup against the Yankees.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Confirmed for start Sunday

Reds manager Terry Francona confirmed Wednesday that Lowder (shoulder) will be reinstated from the injured list to start Sunday's game in St. Louis, Charlie Clifford of NBC 5 Cincinnati reports. Francona indicated previously that Lowder would rejoin the Reds' rotation for Sunday's series finale as long as he got through Tuesday's rehab start at Triple-A Louisville without any hiccups. That happened, as the righty had an 8:0 K:BB over five innings while yielding three runs. Lowder threw 70 pitches on Tuesday, so he will not be fully stretched out against the Cardinals. The right-hander has been sidelined since early May due to right shoulder discomfort.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Making rehab start Tuesday

Lowder (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports. Lowder threw a successful live batting practice session Wednesday, clearing the way for him to pitch in an official game. The right-hander is slated to throw 70 pitches in Tuesday's outing, so it might be the only rehab start he needs before rejoining the Cincinnati rotation. Lowder has been on the shelf since early May due to right shoulder discomfort.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Will face hitters early next week

Lowder (shoulder) is expected to face hitters early next week, Charlie Goldsmith of of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports. Lowder recently resumed throwing off the mound as he works his way back from an AC joint issue in his right shoulder, and he's almost ready to face hitters. The righty said he's "pushed to be aggressive to get back as fast as possible," but he will not quite be ready when first eligible Monday. It shouldn't be long after that, however, as long as Lowder's recovery continues on its current trajectory.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Resuming throwing program

Reds manager Terry Francona said that Lowder (shoulder) will resume throwing Thursday, Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19 Now Cincinnati reports. Lowder was given an injection in the injured AC joint of his right shoulder earlier this week and officially landed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday. The right-hander's absence could be relatively brief, but until Lowder is ready, the newly-signed Chris Paddack will hold down a slot in the Reds' rotation.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Move to IL made official

The Reds placed Lowder on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right shoulder discomfort. Lowder was forced to exit his start last Thursday with right shoulder trouble and was subsequently given an injection in the AC joint. He does not have any structural damage, so Lowder has a chance to return soon, but it will depend on how he does after he's cleared to ramp up throwing again. Chris Paddack was signed to take Lowder's roster spot and should also hold down a slot in the rotation while Lowder is out.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: MRI coming Friday

Lowder (shoulder) will undergo an MRI on Friday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Lowder was removed in the fourth inning of Thursday's game with right shoulder discomfort. Reds manager Terry Francona said he didn't believe Lowder was in a lot of discomfort, but Friday's imaging should present a clearer picture and inform the next steps for the right-hander. Lowder acknowledged that he had been dealing with something in the right shoulder, which may have impacted his previous start May 2, when he allowed eight runs over 1.1 innings.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Overcomes slow start

Lowder did not factor into Sunday's decision against the Tigers. He allowed two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out seven across five innings. Lowder put the Reds on the back foot early after giving up a two-run double to Kerry Carpenter in the first inning. Lowder managed to settle in thereafter, keeping the Tigers off the board over the next four frames before exiting the game with the Reds up 3-2, but he did not come away with the win after Detroit scored six runs over the seventh and eighth innings. Lowder has given up two earned runs or less in four of his first six starts of the season, and he sits at a 3.18 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 25:10 K:BB across 34 innings. He's lined up to start next week on the road against the Pirates.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Earns win in quality start

Lowder (2-1) earned the win Wednesday against the Giants, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four over 6.2 innings. Lowder ran into trouble in the second inning, allowing three straight baserunners, capped by a two-run double from Daniel Susac, but Lowder settled in well after that, tossing four straight scoreless frames. The 24-year-old found himself running into traffic again in the seventh, when he exited with runners at the corners, and one inherited runner later came around to score. Despite the late blemish, Lowder delivered another strong outing and has now posted quality starts in two of his last three appearances. Through 23 innings, the right-hander owns a 3.52 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and a 15:7 K:BB, with a road matchup against Tampa Bay on deck.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Yields five runs in loss Thursday

Lowder (1-1) took the loss Thursday against the Marlins, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts across 5.1 innings. Lowder hasn't been able to miss many bats in the early going this season with a 6.1 K/9 -- which is only marginally worse than his 6.5 mark from the 2025 regular season -- and he generated just seven whiffs on 95 pitches against Miami. Lowder served up four extra-base knocks, including a pair of doubles to Owen Caissie. An RBI single by Javier Sanoja was the knockout blow in the sixth inning, as Lowder left trailing 5-1. The right-hander has a 3.31 ERA and 11:6 K:BB across 16.1 innings. He's slated to face the Giants at home Wednesday.

  • Reds' Rhett Lowder: Shuts out Texas over six innings

Lowder (1-0) earned the win Saturday against the Rangers, allowing three hits and two walks with four strikeouts across six shutout innings. It was Lowder's first major-league win since September of 2024, as he was limited to just five minor-league starts last season due to oblique and forearm issues. Lowder won a job in the Reds' rotation this spring, and the 24-year-old breezed through six shutout frames on 82 pitches. Through two starts this year, Lowder has a 1.64 ERA and 9:4 K:BB across 11 innings. He tentatively lines up to make his next start on the road versus the Marlins next week.
