Alvarez (2-6) took the loss Tuesday, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks over 4.2 innings as the Nationals fell 3-1 to the Rockies. He struck out six.

The left-hander failed to complete five innings for the first time in August, tossing 52 of 81 pitches for strikes before getting the hook. Alvarez hasn't gotten into the win column since July 1, managing a 4.36 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 32:22 K:BB over his last nine outings and 43.1 innings while going 0-5. He'll try to turn things around in his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come at home this weekend against the Marlins.

Romano walked one in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his 13th save of the season in a 3-1 win over the Nationals.

The veteran right-hander may be turning his career around with the most unlikely of teams. Romano has converted nine of 10 save chances since landing with the Rockies, posting a 2.30 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 15:8 K:BB over 15.2 innings -- a remarkable turnaround after he began 2026 with a 10.13 ERA in eight frames for the Angels.

Goodman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Nationals.

Activated from the IL earlier in the day after recovering from a shoulder injury, Goodman quickly proved his health by launching an Andrew Alvarez fastball into the left-field seats to lead off the fourth inning. It was the 35th homer of the season for the slugging backstop, and in 24 games since the All-Star break he sports a .237/.295/.575 slash line with eight long balls, 11 runs and 19 RBI.

Adams didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Nationals, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over four innings. He struck out five.

Making his big-league debut, Adams tossed 48 of 75 pitches for strikes but couldn't stick around long enough to qualify for his first MLB win. The right-hander was picked up from the White Sox at the trade deadline in the Brenton Doyle trade and has looked good this season at Triple-A in his return from Tommy John surgery, posting a 3.67 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 49:20 K:BB through 49 innings between Charlotte and Albuquerque prior to his promotion. Adams is filling in for Kyle Freeland (neck) in the Rockies' rotation, but if he continues to pitch reasonable well, he could keep his spot for the remainder of the season. Adams is set to make his next start on the road this weekend in Atlanta.

Hernandez went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 7-3 extra-innings loss to the Red Sox.

The 26-year-old outfielder led off the sixth inning by taking Payton Tolle deep and tying the game at 2-2. It was Hernandez's fourth homer in the last 12 games and his 20th of the season, doubling his total from 2025 in only 14 more games. After a disastrous start to the campaign that saw him limp into June with a .571 OPS, Hernandez has come to life and delivered an .850 OPS over his last 66 contests with 18 of his home runs, along with 31 runs and 36 RBI.

Phillips didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 7-3 extra-innings loss to the Red Sox, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out seven.

The seven Ks were a season high and tied Phillips' career high, but they also ran up his pitch count and forced an early exit after 84 pitches (55 strikes). The right-hander has given up two earned runs or fewer in eight of his last nine trips to the mound but has lasted longer than five innings only once in that time, posting a 3.72 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 34:13 K:BB in 36.1 innings. He'll look to earn his first win since Aug. 1 in his next outing, which lines up to come on the road early next week against the Nationals.

Lord struck out two and allowed one walk and no hits over 2.1 innings of relief in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Rockies.

Lord had started in each of his prior three appearances, but he was essentially deployed as an opener for all of those games, working no more than 2.2 innings on any occasions. The Nationals are still lacking a clear No. 5 starter, but Lord's usage in long relief Tuesday suggests that the club is planning on him filling a bullpen role for the time being. Washington will have Matt Waldron open Wednesday's contest in what would have been Lord's spot in the rotation.

Nola (5-10) took the loss Tuesday against the Mariners after allowing two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out seven over six innings.

Nola turned in a strong performance but was stuck with the loss. He surrendered a solo homer to Cal Raleigh in the second inning but kept Seattle off the board over the next three frames before Josh Naylor's RBI single broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth. Nola has pitched considerably better of late, posting a 2.79 ERA across five starts and 29 innings in August, but Philadelphia's offense provided little support Tuesday. His season ERA dropped from 5.12 to 5.03 with this quality start, and he's lined up to make his next start on the road against the Diamondbacks next week.

Stewart went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Giants.

Stewart got the Reds on the board by taking Carson Seymour deep in the ninth inning, though it didn't spoil the San Francisco reliever's first save. Stewart has been a pinnacle of consistency in August, hitting safely in 21 of 24 games while going 28-for-95 (.295) with five homers and 15 RBI. The first baseman is batting .263 with an .810 OPS, 28 homers, 99 RBI, 74 runs scored, 24 doubles and 12 stolen bases through 133 contests overall.

Singer (5-12) allowed three runs on six hits, two walks and two hit batsmen while striking out five over 5.2 innings to take the loss versus the Giants on Tuesday.

The initial damage was done on a two-run single by Drew Cavanaugh in the first inning, and Rafael Devers added a solo home run in the fifth. Singer has been no better than mediocre during a six-start winless stretch, a span in which he's allowed 20 runs over 34 innings with a 24:13 K:BB. Singer is at a 4.72 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 112:45 K:BB through 137.1 innings over 26 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Padres.
