Cubs' Tyrone Taylor: Lands with Cubs via trade Monday

The Cubs acquired Taylor and right-hander Clay Holmes (fibula) from the Mets on Monday in exchange for infielder Jefferson Rojas, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Taylor -- who will reach free agency after the season -- will likely see most of his playing time for Cubs against left-handed pitching. The right-handed-hitting outfielder boasts a .900 OPS versus southpaws this season.

One day after slugging a big three-run homer against the Dodgers, Taylor launched another three-run shot Monday as part of a late Mets offensive onslaught. The veteran outfielder has come alive in July -- through 17 contests this month, he's batting .378 (14-for-37) with six long balls, four doubles, 12 RBI and 11 runs. Taylor is still trying to earn consistent playing time, though he's started two straight games after being left out of the starting lineup for six consecutive contests.

Taylor entered in the third inning after Mark Vientos (hand) was forced out of the game. The outfielder certainly made the most of the opportunity, tying the game 2-2 with a 380-foot shot off Michael Wacha in the fifth inning for his sixth homer of the year. Taylor has swung the bat well in nine games following a month-long stint on the IL, going 7-for-17 (.412) with three homers. Overall, he's slashing .219/.246/.421 with 17 RBI and 14 runs scored across 122 plate appearances this season.

Taylor was removed from Monday's game versus the Reds after the sixth inning with right hip discomfort, Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record reports.
He limped off the field and into the clubhouse after grounding out in the bottom of the sixth inning, and MJ Melendez entered the game in Taylor's place in the top of the seventh. Taylor went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in his two plate appearances before exiting. The Mets should have more after the game regarding the outfielder's future availability.
Taylor is not in the Mets' starting lineup against the Rockies on Wednesday, Manny Randhawa of MLB.com reports.
Taylor will be out of the Mets' lineup for a second consecutive game while the team starts Juan Soto, Carson Benge and MJ Melendez in the outfield from left to right. Taylor has struggled at the plate of late, having gone 3-for-22 (.136) with one RBI over his last eight outings.
