Luis Torrens C | NYM
Mets' Luis Torrens: Sitting out second straight
Torrens is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Marlins.
It's Torrens' second consecutive day out of the lineup after he had started in three straight games prior to that. Hayden Senger will be behind the plate as the Mets continue to divvy up catching duties evenly in the absence of Francisco Alvarez (thumb).

Dominic Smith DH | ATL
Giants' Dominic Smith: Sitting against southpaw
Smith is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.
The left-handed-hitting Smith will retreat to the bench for the second time in the series while the Cubs send a lefty (Shota Imanaga) to the hill. Rafael Devers will fill in for Smith at first base, which opens the designated-hitter spot up for Wilmer Flores.

Seiya Suzuki RF | CHC
Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Getting breather Thursday
Suzuki is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in San Francisco.
It's a routine day off for Suzuki, who has struggled mightily in the second half with a .578 OPS and just two home runs. Kyle Tucker will get a day in the designated-hitter spot while Owen Caissie plays right field.

Freddy Tarnok RP | MIA
Marlins' Freddy Tarnok: Sent back down
The Marlins optioned Tarnok to Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday.
Tarnok's latest stint in the majors lasted only one day, and he allowed two runs over 2.1 innings in a relief outing versus Atlanta. He's clearing out to make space on the roster for Adam Mazur, who is starting Thursday's contest against the Mets.

Adam Mazur P | MIA
Marlins' Adam Mazur: Recalled ahead of start
The Marlins recalled Mazur from Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday.
Mazur will start Thursday's game against the Mets, taking the rotation spot of the injured Janson Junk (elbow). The right-handed Mazur has looked unready for the majors in his nine big-league starts dating back to last season, collecting a 7.32 ERA and 27:25 K:BB over 39.1 innings. Mazur could get at least a couple turns until Junk and/or Ryan Weathers (lat) are ready to rejoin the Marlins' rotation.

Andre Pallante SP | STL
Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Remaining in rotation
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Thursday that Pallante will make his next scheduled start Sunday in Cincinnati, John Denton of MLB.comreports.
Pallante has posted an 8.26 ERA, 1.72 WHIP and 32:17 K:BB over 44.2 innings covering his last nine starts, but the Cardinals believe his underlying metrics point to better success moving forward and want the hurler work through his issues in the big-league rotation. The right-hander should not be used in fantasy leagues until he shows some improvement, particularly with a start at Great American Ball Park looming this weekend.

Tyler Locklear 1B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Tyler Locklear: Poised to regain regular role
Locklear is expected to take over as the Diamondbacks' primary first baseman due to Pavin Smith's (quadriceps) likely placement on the injured list following Thursday's game against the Brewers, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Since being acquired from the Mariners at the trade deadline, Locklear has gotten off to a listless start to his time with the Diamondbacks, slashing just .186/.269/.271 with two home runs and a 37.2 percent strikeout rate over 21 games. The right-handed-hitting Locklear had moved into the short side of a platoon at first base after Smith moved past an oblique injury and was activated from the IL on Aug. 18, but the latter player will end up returning to the IL less than two weeks later due to a new injury. The Diamondbacks don't have an obvious option to use in a platoon with Locklear while Smith is out, so Locklear should have the opportunity to play fairly regularly against right-handers.

Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI
Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Getting shoulder checked out
Manager Oliver Marmol said Thursday that Arenado will return to St. Louis in the coming days to have his injured right shoulder examined by team doctors so that the Cardinals can map out a potential rehab assignment for him, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Arenado has been rehabbing his right shoulder strain at the club's spring training complex in Florida and is still in the early stages of a throwing program. If he gets good news from his visit with team doctors, Arenado could be cleared for rehab games before long. Nolan Gorman has been serving as the Cardinals' primary third baseman since Arenado landed on the injured list Aug. 1.

Pavin Smith RF | ARI
Diamondbacks' Pavin Smith: Bound for IL
Smith (quadriceps) is likely to be placed on the 10-day injured list ahead of Friday's series opener against the Dodgers, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Smith was removed from Wednesday's win over the Brewers due to left quad tightness. He won't stick around in Milwaukee for Thursday's series finale and will instead head back to Phoenix to undergo imaging. Assuming the MRI confirms a quad strain, Smith will likely require a stint on the IL. Tyler Locklear will start at first base Thursday and should serve as the Diamondbacks' primary option at the position while Smith is shelved.
