  • Guardians' Foster Griffin: Collects 14th win of 2026

Griffin (14-4) earned the win against the Giants on Tuesday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks while striking out six across six innings. The Guardians' offense supplied seven runs through the the first four innings of Tuesday's game, which was plenty of cushion for Griffin. The 31-year-old southpaw gave up a solo homer to Bryce Eldridge in the second inning, but that turned out to be the only blemish on Griffin's line, as he logged his 12th game of six or more strikeouts and his 13th quality start of the season. Griffin's 14 wins are tied with Chase Burns for third most in the majors behind Cristopher Sanchez (16) and Sonny Gray (15). Griffin will take a 3.18 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 144.1 innings into his next start, tentatively slated for this weekend on the road against the Rockies.

  • Guardians' Foster Griffin: Good outing in win

Griffin (13-4) got the win against Detroit Wednesday, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts in five innings. After giving up 11 runs in his previous 9.1 innings, Griffin righted the ship Wednesday by getting through five innings with limited damage. Griffin is now 1-1 in two starts with the Guardians since getting dealt by the Nationals at the trade deadline. The rookie now sports a 3.25 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP through 138.1 innings and lines up for a start against the Giants next week.

  • Guardians' Foster Griffin: Struggles again in team debut

Griffin (12-4) took the loss against the Mets on Thursday, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks in four innings. He struck out six. Making his Guardians debut, Griffin didn't leave an encouraging first impression with his new club. The left-hander has now coughed up 11 runs in his past two starts (9.1 innings), which is quite the disappointment after he gave up 10 runs altogether across his previous nine outings. Griffin will be aiming to get back on track his next time out in Detroit, where he'll bring what is still an impressive 3.31 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 122:32 K:BB over 133.1 innings for Washington and Cleveland.

  • Guardians' Foster Griffin: Dealt to Cleveland

The Guardians acquired Griffin from Washington on Monday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. The Guardians acquire Griffin, a starting pitching rental on an expiring contract after the 2026 season. Griffin, who made his first All-Star game this season, will join the Guardians as they bolster their starting rotation. The 30-year-old is tied for fourth in the majors with 12 wins, owning a 3.06 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 116:30 K:BB through 129.1 innings. The left-hander will join a staff consisting of Gavin Williams, Parker Messick, Joey Cantillo and Tanner Bibee.

  • Nationals' Foster Griffin: Collects 12th win

Griffin (12-2) picked up the win in Saturday's 5-3 victory over the Diamondbacks, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk over 6.2 innings. He struck out two. The 30-year-old left-hander continues to impress in his first MLB action since 2022. Griffin has delivered 12 quality starts this season, including seven in his last eight outings -- a stretch in which he's produced a 1.56 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 44:7 K:BB over 52 innings. While his name has come up in trade rumors, it's hard to imagine Griffin getting dealt if the surprising Nationals intend to remain in playoff contention. He's scheduled to make his next start on the road next week in Atlanta.

  • Nationals' Foster Griffin: Strong for seven frames in 11th win

Griffin allowed one run on eight hits and one walk while striking out two over seven innings to earn the win over the Athletics on Sunday. Griffin gave up three doubles among the eight hits but was mostly able to keep the Athletics' offense in check. The All-Star break hasn't slowed him down -- he's allowed exactly one run in eight straight starts, covering 50.1 innings with a 46:6 K:BB in that span. For the season, he's maintained an excellent 2.68 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP and 111:27 K:BB through 117.1 innings over 20 starts. He'll look to keep the hot streak going in a home start versus the Diamondbacks next weekend.

  • Nationals' Foster Griffin: Sharp in ninth win

Griffin (9-2) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on four hits and a walk in five innings during a 9-5 victory over the Pirates. He struck out two. A Bryan Reynolds solo shot in the third inning was the only blemish on Griffin's line, and the 30-year-old southpaw got lifted after 83 pitches (57 strikes) with the Nationals holding a comfortable 5-1 lead. Griffin hasn't lost a decision since May 14, going 5-0 over his last nine starts with a stellar 2.24 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 51:8 K:BB through 52.1 innings. He'll look to wrap up the first half in style in a home start against the Astros next week.

  • Nationals' Foster Griffin: Outstanding stretch continues

Griffin took a no-decision Saturday against the Orioles, allowing one unearned run on three hits and two walks in seven innings. He struck out nine. A throwing error by Nasim Nunez in the second inning kept an earned run off Griffin's ledger Saturday. After being out of the major leagues since 2023, Griffin has been a revelation for the Nationals in 2026. The 30-year-old southpaw has given up fewer than two runs in five straight starts, and he's now recorded nine strikeouts in back-to-back outings. Griffin will take an impressive 2.93 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 98:25 K:BB over 98.1 innings into his next scheduled appearance against Pittsburgh.

  • Nationals' Foster Griffin: Delivers quality start Tuesday

Griffin didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Royals, allowing one run on six hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out six. The 30-year-old lefty produced his second straight quality start and seventh of the season on 100 pitches (74 strikes), but Griffin saw his eighth win slip away when the Nationals' bullpen coughed up a two-run lead in the top of the seventh inning. Griffin has been locked in over his last five outings, posting a 1.93 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 26:5 K:BB though 28 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Phillies.

  • Nationals' Foster Griffin: Strong start wasted Wednesday

Griffin didn't factor into the decision Wednesday, allowing one run on six hits over six innings in an 11-10 loss to the Giants. He struck out five without walking a batter. The 30-year-old southpaw produced his sixth quality start of the season on 100 pitches (72 strikes) in another sharp performance, but Griffin saw his eighth win of the year slip away when the Nationals' bullpen managed to blow an eight-run lead. After a couple bumpy outings in mid-May, Griffin has bounced back to post a 2.05 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 20:3 K:BB in 22 innings over his last four trips to the mound. He'll look to keep rolling in his next start, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Royals.

  • Nationals' Foster Griffin: Sharp for five innings in win

Griffin (7-2) allowed one run on two hits and no walks while striking out four over five innings to earn the win over the Diamondbacks on Friday. Griffin's lone mistake ended up being an Aramis Garcia solo shot in the third inning. The long ball has been a problem for Griffin at times, as he's allowed eight of them over his last five starts, a span in which he's given up 18 runs across 25.1 innings. For the season, the southpaw has a serviceable 3.63 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 69:21 K:BB across 72 innings through 13 starts. His next start is slated to be a favorable road matchup in San Francisco.

  • Nationals' Foster Griffin: Allows three homers in no-decision

Griffin did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Padres, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts over five innings. Griffin was burned by three solo homers and departed with a 3-1 deficit before the Nationals' offense erupted in the late innings. It marked the third time in six May outings that the southpaw surrendered multiple long balls, and he'll finish the month with a 4.86 ERA over that stretch. He'll carry a 3.76 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 65:21 K:BB across 67 innings this season into a road matchup against the Diamondbacks next weekend.

  • Nationals' Foster Griffin: Bounces back against Atlanta

Griffin (6-2) earned the win against Atlanta on Sunday, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out six across six scoreless innings. It was a strong bounce-back performance from Griffin, who gave up 14 earned runs over his two starts prior to Sunday's game. He was able to get out of a couple of sticky spots -- including a bases-loaded situation in the fourth inning -- to come away with his fourth quality start of the season. Griffin is up to 60 strikeouts on the season, which is second on the Nationals behind Cade Cavalli (61) and 16th in the National League. Griffin will take a 3.63 ERA and 1.13 WHIP across 62 innings into his next start, which is slated for next weekend at home against the Padres.

Griffin (4-2) took the loss Thursday against Cincinnati, allowing nine runs on seven hits and three walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out seven. While Griffin did log seven or more strikeouts for the third time in his last four outings, it was otherwise a day to forget for the left-hander. Prior to Thursday, Griffin had delivered four straight quality starts, posting a 1.38 ERA over 26 innings in that span. His ERA is now up to 3.53 on the year with a 1.14 WHIP and 49:18 K:BB across nine starts (51 innings). Griffin will look to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week at home against the Mets.

The southpaw has been rolling, allowing just four combined earned runs over four consecutive quality starts. He'll carry an impressive 2.12 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 42:15 K:BB across 46.2 innings into a road test in Cincinnati.

  • Nationals' Foster Griffin: Fans eight in no-decision

Griffin did not factor into Sunday's decision against the White Sox. He allowed two hits and two walks while striking out eight across seven scoreless innings. Griffin set the tone early by striking out the side in the first inning after yielding a single. He allowed just three more baserunners over the next six frames, but he was unable to come away with the win as neither team scored until extra innings. For Griffin, it was his second-straight quality start and the fourth time this season that he gave up two earned runs or less. He has a 3-0 record through six starts with a 2.67 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 30:10 K:BB across 33.2 innings in 2026. Griffin is slated to make his next start next weekend at home against the Brewers.

  • Nationals' Foster Griffin: Picks up third win Tuesday

Griffin (3-0) earned the win Tuesday against Atlanta, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk with three strikeouts across six innings. After pitching the previous three seasons in Japan, Griffin has been a success story early in the season for the Nationals. He's gone at least five innings in all five starts, and Washington has now won four of those contests. The lefty doesn't throw hard or possess swing-and-miss stuff, but he keeps hitters off balance with a seven-pitch mix. Griffin now owns a 3.38 ERA and 22:8 K:BB across 26.2 innings.

  • Nationals' Foster Griffin: Flirts with no-hitter in second win

Griffin (2-0) recorded the win Saturday against the Brewers, allowing no runs on one hit and three walks in 5.1 innings. He struck out one. The 30-year-old left-hander was superb Saturday, carrying a no-hit bid into the sixth inning before Joey Ortiz singled for Milwaukee's first hit of the game. Griffin, who hadn't pitched in the major leagues since 2022 prior to this season, is potentially breaking out for the Nationals, working at least five innings while allowing two runs or fewer in each of his first three starts. Griffin holds a 1.76 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 12:6 K:BB on the year.

  • Nationals' Foster Griffin: Solid against Dodgers

Griffin (1-0) did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Dodgers, allowing a run on five hits and three walks across five innings. He struck out six. Griffin was sharp Sunday, with the only damage against him coming on a Shohei Ohtani solo homer in the third inning. While the Nats' bullpen failed to hang on to a 6-1 lead, Washington has to be encouraged by Griffin's performance early in the season. Through two starts against two strong offenses (the Dodgers and Phillies), the 30-year-old southpaw has allowed just three runs on 10 hits while striking out 11 in 10 innings. Griffin is tentatively scheduled for a road matchup with the Brewers in his next outing.

  • Nationals' Foster Griffin: Works through five in win

Griffin (1-0) earned the victory Monday against the Phillies, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out five over five innings. It was just about a dream start to the game for Griffin as he was handed a 4-0 lead before he even threw his first pitch Monday. He handled that run support well, holding down the Nationals lineup in his five innings of work aside from a two-run home run surrendered to Rafael Marchan. That's an encouraging start to the season for the 30-year-old Griffin in his first MLB start since 2022.
