Phillies' Caleb Kilian: Lands on IL with oblique strain
The Phillies placed Kilian on the 15-day injured list Monday due to a left oblique strain, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Acquired from the Giants last Monday, Kilian made just four appearances with his new team before hitting the shelf due to the oblique injury, which he sustained on his final pitch of Sunday's 7-6 win over the Blue Jays in 12 innings. The Phillies recalled Chase Shugart from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to join the bullpen as a replacement for Kilian, who will be eligible for activation Aug. 25 but appears likely to miss more than the minimum 15 days.

Phillies' Caleb Kilian: Earns win, suffers injury
Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly said that Kilian suffered a right side injury during his relief appearance in Sunday's 7-6 victory over the Blue Jays in 12 innings, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports. Kilian allowed an unearned run on one hit over an inning of relief en route to earning his fourth win of the season.
Kilian entered the contest with the game tied 5-5 heading into the top of the 12th inning. The automatic runner came around to score when Blue Jays center fielder Brett Bateman led off the frame with an RBI single, but Kilian was then able to induce a double play off the bat of Jesus Sanchez before getting Alejandro Kirk to pop out to end the inning. The Phillies would go on to score two runs in the bottom of the 12th to reward Kilian with a win, but the side injury he suffered on his final pitch of the contest could put the right-hander at risk of landing on the injured list. Mattingly said that Kilian's injury "didn't look good," but the Phillies won't known the full extent of the issue until he undergoes further imaging Monday, per MLB.com.

Phillies' Caleb Kilian: Sent to Philadelphia in trade
The Phillies acquired Kilian and Luis Arraez from the Giants on Monday in exchange for Ramon Marquez and Marty Gair, Jayson Stark of The Athletic reports.
Kilian has had a breakout season out of the San Francisco bullpen, posting a 4.26 ERA and 53:20 K:BB over 44.1 innings, logging eight saves in the process. He's 29 and has a lengthy injury history, but the Phillies will bet on Kilian being a quality setup man for them down the stretch.

Giants' Caleb Kilian: Blows save chance
Kilian (2-5) allowed three runs on three hits and a walk while failing to record an out, taking the loss and a blown save in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Rockies.
Kilian has three blown saves this season, and two have come during a six-appearance stretch in which he's allowed nine runs over 4.2 innings. The reliever's hold on the closing job for the Giants is likely weakening with each poor performance. He's now at a 4.74 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 47:18 K:BB through 38 innings this season while converting eight of 11 save chances and adding three holds. Given the Giants' poor placement in the standings, trusting Kilian or other relievers on the team for steady save chances is a risky fantasy strategy.

Giants' Caleb Kilian: Picks up another save
Kilian notched a save against the Rockies on Saturday, allowing one run on two hits and no walks while striking out two batters over one inning.
Kilian inherited a relatively easy opportunity, taking the ball with San Francisco up three runs in the ninth inning. The right-hander didn't have the smoothest outing, as a pair of singles resulted in a Rockies run and brought the tying run to the plate. However, Kilian was able to strike out Troy Johnston to extinguish the threat and send the Giants home with a win. Kilian recorded his fourth save over his past five outings and increased his total to eight saves on the campaign. It hasn't been seamless for Kilian -- he's given up six earned runs over that five-appearance stretch -- but he seems to have a fairly solid hold on San Francisco's closer role.

Kilian allowed five runs over 1.2 innings across his last two appearances in June, but he bounced back with a perfect inning Wednesday to picked up his seventh save of the season and his third in his last four appearances. Kilian allowed one run on two hits and struck out one without walking a batter over one inning to earn the save in Sunday's 3-2 win over Atlanta.
Kilian was tasked with protecting a two-run lead after eight strong innings from Robbie Ray. It was a little shaky, but Kilian was able to come away with his first save since Tuesday. He had blown a save in his previous outing Thursday, allowing four runs in a loss to the Athletics. Kilian is at a 4.11 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 41:17 K:BB over 35 innings this season. He's converted six of eight save chances while adding three holds. While he hasn't been at his best in late June, he still has the edge for save opportunities at this time.

Kilian (2-4) took the loss and a blown save in Thursday's 9-6 loss to the A's, allowing four runs on four hits and a walk over two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one.
Entering with a one-run lead in the ninth, Kilian gave up a lead-off single before retiring the next two A's. However, the right-hander would allow the next four batters to reach safely, ultimately surrendering four runs with two outs as he took his second blown save this season. Prior to Thursday, Kilian had turned in nine straight scoreless appearances (8.1 innings), allowing just five hits while striking out 12 in that span. He's converted five saves this season while posting a 3.97 ERA with a 1.26 WHIP and 40:17 K:BB across 34 innings.

Kilian's last five outings had come in non-save situations, in part due to the Giants' difficulty in earning wins. He pitched 4.2 scoreless innings in that span, and his scoreless streak is up to 8.1 innings with a 12:4 K:BB since his five-run meltdown versus the Rockies on May 29. Kilian has a 2.97 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 39:16 K:BB over 33.1 innings while adding five saves and three holds. He remains the favorite for saves in San Francisco, but the team's poor play makes this a tough bullpen to target in general.

The Giants have yet to settle on a definitive closer since optioning Ryan Walker to the minor leagues, but Killian has found his way into the ninth-inning mix. Milwaukee scored three runs in the ninth Thursday to make it a 12-9 game and create a save opportunity, and the 29-year-old right-hander managed to extinguish the fire. Through 27.2 frames, Killian has a 3.58 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 30:14 K:BB with four saves in five chances.

Kilian (1-3) was saddled with the loss and a blown save in Friday's 8-6 loss to the Rockies, allowing five runs on five hits and no walks with one strikeout in two-thirds of an inning.
Tasked with protecting a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the ninth inning, Kilian gave up back-to-back singles before Hunter Goodman took him deep for a one-out, three-run homer to tie the game. Kilian then got a strikeout before allowing a third single. Ezequiel Tovar then drilled a first-pitch knuckle curve over the wall in left-center for a two-run shot to walk it off. It was Kilian's first blown save in four chances this season. His ERA jumped from 2.22 to 3.96 with a 27:12 K:BB through 25 innings following the rough outing.

Kilian earned his third save of the season in Sunday's 8-5 win over the White Sox, striking out the side in a scoreless ninth inning.
Kilian made easy work of the the top of the order for the White Sox, as the right-hander got every batter he faced to strike out swinging. It was the first time this season that he logged three strikeouts in a game, and he has collected all three of his saves over his last six outings. Kilian looks to be the Giants' preferred closer, with Erik Miller and Matt Gage also in the mix for opportunities.

Giants' Caleb Kilian: Earns four-out save
Kilian struck out one over 1.1 perfect innings to earn the save in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Dodgers.
Kilian was left a bit of a mess from Sam Hentges in the eighth inning, but he got Andy Pages to line out to end the threat. Kilian then retired the side in order in the ninth to pick up the second save of his career. He's regressed a bit after a dominant April, allowing three runs (two earned) with a 3:5 K:BB across 5.1 innings in May. Kilian is at a 1.40 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 19:12 K:BB with two saves and two holds over 19.1 innings this season. He's the current favorite for saves in the Giants' bullpen, though he may end up sharing the closing duties once Erik Miller (back) returns. That said, Kilian's ratios, aside from a high walk rate, are enticing enough to be of value to fantasy managers chasing saves.

Giants' Caleb Kilian: Records first big-league save
Kilian picked up a save against the Padres on Monday, allowing one run on one hit while striking out two batters over one inning.
With regular closer Ryan Walker having blown two straight save chances, manager Tony Vitello opted to turn to Kilian to protect a two-run, ninth-inning lead. Kilian gave up a long homer to Ramon Laureano to open the frame but was then able to set down Fernando Tatis, Jackson Merrill and Manny Machado in order. Walker didn't end up pitching in the contest, but he spent some time warming up during the seventh inning, per Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area, so he was likely available to pitch. It's not clear if the Giants are turning away from Walker as their closer just yet, though that wouldn't be surprising given his struggles so far (he's blown three of six save chances and has a 4.61 ERA through 14 appearances). Should Walker in fact be moved out of the closer role, Kilian and Keaton Winn could be the top options to step into his place, especially with Erik Miller (back) landing on the injured list Monday.

Kilian (1-1) took the loss in Sunday's 2-1 extra-inning defeat to the Rays, allowing one unearned run on two hits and an intentional walk across one relief inning.
Kilian entered in the ninth inning, during which he surrendered a single. He returned for the 10th and intentionally walked the first batter he faced before giving up an RBI single to end the game. He threw 12 of his 15 pitches for strikes while suffering his first loss of the season. Across 14 relief outings in 2026, the right-hander owns a 0.60 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 16:8 K:BB across 15 innings.
