Red Sox's Jarren Duran: Three hits, homer vs. Rockies
Duran went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a triple, three total RBI and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 20-7 loss to the Rockies.
Duran took Cal Quantrill deep in the fifth inning for his 13th homer of the year before legging out his MLB-leading 12th triple in the ninth. Duran now has at least one extra-base hit in seven of his last eight contests -- he's gone 17-for-35 (.486) with three homers in that span. It's been a breakout campaign for the 27-year-old outfielder, who's now slashing .292/.353/.512 with 51 RBI, 73 runs scored and 22 stolen bases across 101 games.

Cody Poteet RP | BAL
Yankees' Cody Poteet: Throwing bullpen Thursday
Poteet (tricep) said Wednesday that he will throw his second full bullpen session Thursday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.
Poteet had not been cleared to throw full bullpen sessions as of Monday, though he seems to have turned a corner in his rehab and is now slated to throw roughly 20-to-25 pitches in what will be his second mound session. The 29-year-old posted a 2.14 ERA and 1.05 WHIP through 21 innings over four starts prior to suffering a tricep strain in June, though it's possible the Yankees move him into their bullpen once he returns from the IL.

JP Sears SP | SD
Athletics' JP Sears: Falls to Houston
Sears (7-8) took the loss Wednesday against the Astros, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits over six innings. He struck out three.
Four of the runs charged to Sears came in the seventh inning, when the first four batters reached before the A's turned to the bullpen. It's a rough final line for Sears, who had won three straight starts while pitching to a 2.42 ERA in his previous four outings. The 28-year-old southpaw now sports a 4.81 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP and 83:32 K:BB across 112.1 innings this season. Sears will look to bounce back in his next start, currently slated for early next week in San Francisco.

Twins' Jhoan Duran: Picks up win No. 6
Duran (6-5) picked up the win Wednesday against the Phillies, pitching a perfect ninth inning with one strikeout.
Duran came on in the top of the ninth inning with the score tied and made quick work of the Phillies, retiring the side in order. In the bottom half of the frame, Max Kepler ended the game with a walk-off single to give Duran his sixth win of the season. The 26-year-old quickly bounced back from Tuesday night's appearance in which he allowed three earned runs and took the loss. The right-hander owns a 3.51 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 32:12 K:BB while converting 15 of 16 save chances.

Hunter Brown SP | HOU
Astros' Hunter Brown: Another strong outing
Brown (9-6) earned the win Wednesday over the Athletics, allowing one run on eight hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out eight.
The lone run charged to Brown came in the first inning when the A's led off the game with back-to-back doubles. The right-hander would rebound to blank Oakland over his final five frames, earning a third straight win while logging his 11th quality start in his last 12 outings. After posting a 7.71 ERA through his first nine starts, Brown's pitched to a 2.09 ERA in his subsequent 12 appearances. Overall, his ERA sits at 4.00 with a 1.37 WHIP and 118:42 K:BB across 110.1 innings this season. Brown will look to keep rolling in his next outing, currently scheduled for early next week at home versus the Pirates.

Nick Pivetta SP | SD
Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Early exit in Colorado
Pivetta (4-7) took the loss Wednesday against the Rockies, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 10 hits over 2.2 innings. He struck out six.
It was a brutal outing for Pivetta, who had allowed just nine hits and four runs over 19.2 innings in his previous three starts. After Wednesday's implosion, the 31-year-old right-hander's ERA ballooned from 3.87 to 4.50 with a 1.18 WHIP and 102:21 K:BB across 84 innings this season. Pivetta will be glad to put Coors Field in the rearview mirror -- he's currently slated to face the Mariners at home early next week in his next outing.

Kevin Kiermaier CF | LAD
Blue Jays' Kevin Kiermaier: Retiring after 2024 season
Kiermaier, who is starting in center field and batting eighth Wednesday against the Rays, said he plans to retire after the end of the 2024 season, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
The 34-year-old was placed on waivers by the Blue Jays just before the All-Star break, but he went unclaimed and continues to see the field for Toronto. Kiermaier had a resurgent 2023 campaign with a .265/.322/.419 slash line in 129 games for the Blue Jays, but he has a career-worst .553 OPS through 76 contests this year and has elected to hang up his cleats at season's end. He's a candidate to be moved ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline, but given that he's making $10.5 million this year and has already cleared waivers, there likely won't be significant trade interest.

Gregory Santos RP | SF
Mariners' Gregory Santos: Exits early Wednesday
Santos was removed from Wednesday's game against the Angels due to an apparent injury, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.
Santos was called for a balk in the eighth inning and looked to be in pain immediately afterward, prompting a visit from a trainer. It wasn't immediately apparent what was bothering him.

David Festa P | MIN
Twins' David Festa: Fans seven in relief
Festa racked up seven strikeouts in 4.1 innings of relief in Wednesday's win against the Phillies, allowing one earned run on four hits and two walks. He did not factor into the decision.
Called up Wednesday morning to bolster the Twins' rotation with Chris Paddack (forearm) on the injured list, Festa worked as the bulk reliever behind opener Steven Okert. The 24-year-old Festa struggled mightily in his first major-league stint, surrendering 12 earned runs with just eight strikeouts in 10 innings. Wednesday's outing was a completely different story, however, as Festa allowed just one earned run and racked up a career-best seven strikeouts against a formidable Phillies lineup. The right-hander now owns an 8.16 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 15:3 K:BB across 14.1 major-league innings. It remains to be seen when he will pitch next, but Festa made a strong case for consistent work with Wednesday's performance.

Justin Foscue 2B | TEX
Rangers' Justin Foscue: Hitting bench Wednesday
Foscue is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.
Travis Jankowski will get the nod at designated hitter Wednesday after Foscue went 1-for-13 with seven strikeouts while serving as Texas' DH in each of the past four contests. Even if Foscue shows improvement at the plate in his subsequent starting opportunities, it may not be enough to guarantee him an extended stay with the big club. Josh Jung (wrist) is restarting his rehab assignment Friday with Double-A Frisco, and Foscue will be the player most at risk of losing out on regular playing time once Jung is activated from the 60-day injured list.
