The Yankees reinstated Schmidt (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Royals in New York.

Schmidt opened the season on the shelf while recovering from right shoulder fatigue, but he'll make his 2025 debut with the Yankees after recently wrapping up a two-start rehab assignment in the minors. In his final outing with Double-A Somerset last Thursday, Schmidt tossed four scoreless innings and 61 pitches, so he could have a light workload restriction in place Wednesday.

Burger (illness) will start at first base and bat seventh in Wednesday's contest versus the Angels.

Burger missed Tuesday's tilt due to illness but feels well enough to give it a go in this one. The first baseman's tenure with the Rangers hasn't gotten off to an ideal start, as he'll carry a .484 OPS into play Wednesday.

Smith (thumb) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.

Smith is dealing with a bruised thumb, and the super-utility player will miss a second straight start. Dustin Harris will start in left field and bat sixth for the Rangers on Wednesday.

Rocchio is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

Rocchio will get a rest Wednesday after he started in each of the Guardians' last five games while going 5-for-15 with two walks against one strikeout. With Rocchio on the bench, Gabriel Arias will shift over from second base to shortstop, opening up the keystone for Daniel Schneemann.

Thomas (wrist) will start in center field and bat fifth in Wednesday's game in Baltimore.

Thomas will re-enter the starting nine for the first time since April 8, after a bruised right wrist kept him on the bench for six straight games. He went unused in the first five contests but struck out as a pinch hitter and played the final three innings in center field of Tuesday's 6-3 win. Injury aside, Thomas has gotten off to a tough start to the season, as he'll take a .161/.206/.194 batting line into Wednesday's contest.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that the beginning of Gil's (lat) throwing progression will be pushed back about 10 days, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Gil had been scheduled to play catch Wednesday or Thursday. However, the pitcher recently underwent an MRI, and doctors would like to see more healing with Gil's right lat before they clear him to throw. While he's not a setback, per se, Gil's recovery has not moved along as far as hoped.

Blanco (1-2) took the loss Wednesday against the Cardinals, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out one.

Blanco got off to a nice start, allowing just one hit through his first four scoreless innings. However, the Cardinals led off the fifth with back-to-back singles before Lars Nootbaar launched a three-run homer. It's been a shaky beginning to the year for Blanco -- his ERA now sits at 6.48 with a 1.68 WHIP and 17:10 K:BB through his first four starts (16.2 innings). Blanco is currently scheduled for a home matchup with the Blue Jays in his next outing.

Lowe is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Lowe started Opening Day versus a lefty but has been absent from the lineup each of the three times the Rays have faced a southpaw since then. Coco Montes will play second base and bat seventh in Wednesday's series finale.

Aranda is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Red Sox.

It's southpaw Sean Newcomb on the bump for the Red Sox, so the lefty-hitting Aranda will yield to the right-handed-batting Curtis Mead at first base. Aranda has been absent from the lineup all four times the Rays have faced a lefty this season.

The Red Sox recalled Sogard from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday.

Sogard will likely be in line for a brief stay with the big club, as he was called up from Triple-A to replace Alex Bregman (personal), who was placed on the paternity list Wednesday but could be available as soon as Friday. While he's up with Boston, Sogard will provide the bench with some extra versatility; he's made starts at all four infield spots in addition to right field at Triple-A this season.
