Alvarez (hand) is still "a few days away" from returning to the lineup, Matt Kawahara reports.

Alvarez hit in the cage again Thursday, and manager Joe Espada relayed that everything went according to plan. It appears that Alvarez will return at some point during Houston's weekend series, but he remained out of the lineup Thursday against the Rangers.

Guerrero went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks in Thursday's 8-3 loss to the Rays.

Guerrero has been steady at the plate lately, hitting safely in 15 of the last 16 games. In that span, he's gone 20-for-60 (.333) with three homers, eight RBI and a 12:14 BB:K. The first baseman's power isn't quite at the expected level with just five homers, but there's been little else to complain about with his play. He's slashing .294/.395/.438 with 20 RBI, 24 runs scored and eight doubles across 43 contests.

Gausman (3-4) allowed six runs on 10 hits while striking out six and walking none over 5.2 innings to take the loss versus the Rays on Thursday.

Gausman struggled right out of the gate, allowing a two-run home run to Brandon Lowe in the first inning. The veteran right-hander also allowed solo shots to Kameron Misner and Josh Lowe prior to his exit. Gausman had gotten some early homer trouble under control before this start -- he hadn't allowed a homer over his previous four starts, covering 20 innings in that span. This poor performance raised his ERA to 4.59 with a 1.06 WHIP and 46:12 K:BB over 51 innings through nine starts this season. It was the fourth time he's avoided walking a batter, and that impressive control has been one of the bright spots in his up-and-down campaign so far. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Padres.

Winn was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday.

Winn has yet to allow an earned run across 23.1 innings with Round Rock this season, though that's come with a less impressive 20:11 K:BB. He'll be set for a bullpen role with the Rangers.

Caballero went 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and two runs scored in Thursday's 8-3 win over the Blue Jays.

Caballero has gone 7-for-21 (.333) with two steals over his last seven games, a span that includes a pair of multi-hit efforts. Playing time is set to get more difficult to maintain for the defensively versatile 28-year-old, but his hot hitting should help him continue to push Taylor Walls at shortstop once Josh Lowe, back from a long-term oblique injury, settles back into right field. Caballero has a .250/.333/.370 slash line with a home run, 12 RBI, 10 runs scored and 10 steals across 105 plate appearances this season. Even if he loses out on a near-everyday role, he'll still be a speedy option off the bench for the Rays.

Boushley was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday.

Boushley has split the season almost exactly evenly between the majors and Round Rock. He threw 2.1 shutout innings Wednesday and has allowed only one earned run across his last 8.1 frames in the majors. Cole Winn was called up in a corresponding move.

Misner went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 8-3 win over the Blue Jays.

Misner has hit safely in four straight games, going 4-for-15 with two RBI and eight strikeouts in that span. He hasn't logged a multi-hit effort since April 23 versus the Diamondbacks, but the Rays' injury woes in the outfield have allowed Misner to maintain a starting role in center field. He cedes some at-bats to Chandler Simpson, primarily against left-handed pitchers. Misner has a .256/.305/.436 slash line with four homers, 13 RBI, 18 runs scored, three stolen bases, seven doubles and a triple over 128 plate appearances.

Bleday is not in Thursday's lineup against the Dodgers.

Bleday has been the A's regular center fielder while sitting occasionally against lefties. He'll sit for just the second time with a right-hander on the mound this season. Seth Brown will take over in center field and hit third.

Lowe went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and two additional runs scored in Thursday's 8-3 win over the Blue Jays.

Lowe landed on the injured list after straining his oblique Opening Day, and he was eased back into action as the designated hitter after being reinstated Thursday. Lowe also hit leadoff, where his speed on the basepaths should be fruitful once he's back in a rhythm. The 27-year-old hit .241 with a .693 OPS over 106 games in 2024, but he batted .292 with an .835 OPS, 20 home runs and 32 steals in 2023, so there's significant potential here if he can put it all together.

Lowe quickly opened the scoring with a two-run blast in the first inning, and he did the same thing to close out the scoring in the ninth. He torched Toronto pitching in this three-game series, going 7-for-13 with three extra-base hits and six RBI. That has Lowe's OPS up to .645 on the year, his highest mark since he was at .660 following an April 16 game versus the Red Sox. He's batting .220 with seven homers, 24 RBI, 17 runs scored, a stolen base and two doubles over 162 plate appearances.
