Pirates' Jake Mangum: Lade addition to Monday's lineup
Mangum is starting in center field and batting eighth against the Cardinals on Monday.
Mangum was initially slated to open Monday's series opener on the bench, but he will get the start in center field instead after the Pirates scratched Oneil Cruz (undisclosed) from the lineup. Mangum is slashing .254/.313/.288 with three steals and two RBI over 65 plate appearances this season.

Pirates' Jake Mangum: Two hits from leadoff spot
Mangum went 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base Sunday against the Rays.
Mangum hit leadoff for the fourth time this season, all of which have come against lefties. He jump-started the offense with a double in his first at-bat, and he later reached base on a bunt single before stealing third. Mangum draws only sporadic starts, but he's hit .283 with three stolen bases and 10 runs scored across 17 games on the camapign.

Pirates' Ryan O'Hearn: Resting for series finale
O'Hearn is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.
The left-handed-hitting O'Hearn hasn't been a strict platoon player for the Pirates this season, but after he played eight of 13 innings in Saturday's 8-7 loss, he'll get a breather for Sunday's matinee game while southpaw Shane McClanahan toes the rubber for the Rays. Jake Mangum will pick up a start in the outfield in O'Hearn's stead.

Pirates' Jake Mangum: Back on bench Monday
Mangum is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Padres.
The switch-hitting Mangum has cracked the starting nine in five of the Pirates' first 10 games, with three of those starts coming against left-handed pitching. Mangum should remain a regular presence in the lineup versus southpaws moving forward, but his opportunities to play against righties will likely be more sporadic while all of Bryan Reynolds, Oneil Cruz, Ryan O'Hearn and Marcell Ozuna are available to cover the outfield and designated-hitter spots.

Pirates' Jake Mangum: Sent packing to Pittsburgh
The Pirates acquired Mangum from the Rays on Friday in a three-team trade, Chandler Rome and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic report.
Mangum had a successful rookie season in 2025 with the Rays, slashing .296/.330/.368 with three home runs and 27 stolen bases. He'll turn 30 in March but is under team control through 2030. Mangum could be the favorite to open the 2026 season as the Pirates' starting left fielder, and he's capable of handling all three outfield spots.

Rays' Jake Mangum: Closing season well
Mangum went 3-for-5 on Thursday against the Orioles.
Mangum is closing the season well, recording multiple hits in three of his last seven games. He also tallied his third homer Wednesday, his first since July 2. Given Mangum's strong defense in the outfield and his passable performance at the plate, he should be in line to compete for playing time in 2026.

Rays' Jake Mangum: Swipes 25th base
Mangum went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Monday's 2-1 extra-innings loss to the Blue Jays.
The Tampa Bay outfielder nabbed second off Toronto reliever Jeff Hoffman in the ninth to become the third Rays player to reach the 25-steal mark this season (following Jose Caballero and Chandler Simpson). Since the All-Star break, Mangum has been a regular in the lineup, playing roughly 85 percent of the time (45 out of the team's 53 games) and hitting .273 (41-for-150) with 12 stolen bases, 13 runs scored and eight RBI.
