Carpenter is starting in right field and batting fifth in Thursday's game against the Orioles.

Carpenter often hits the bench against lefties, but southpaw Keegan Akin is serving as an opener for Baltimore and only expected to cover an inning or two. When he departs, righty Dean Kremer is expected to be the bulk pitcher, and Carpenter has an .826 OPS against righties compared to a .594 mark versus lefties this season.

Keith is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Orioles.

With Baltimore using lefty Keegan Akin as the opener, Keith will begin the game on the bench, as he's batting just .156 with a .416 OPS against southpaws this year. However, righty Dean Kremer is expected to be the bulk pitcher after Akin departs, so Keith is an option to pinch hit at some point when a more favorable matchup presents itself.

Jones is serving as the designated hitter and batting leadoff in Thursday's game against the Orioles.

Just as he did Tuesday when Baltimore started a lefty, Jones will bat first Thursday against southpaw Keegan Akin, who is serving as the opener. Akin is only expected to work an inning or two, with righty Dean Kremer lined up to handle the bulk role. That could lead to someone like Colt Keith, who isn't starting, to pinch hit for Jones later in the contest.

Orioles interim manager Tony Mansolino said Thursday that Sanchez (wrist) has a chance to be activated before the conclusion of the team's homestand Sunday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Sanchez is 8-for-20 with three home runs in six rehab games with Triple-A Norfolk and is coming along more quickly than expected. He's been shelved since late April due to right wrist inflammation but looks to have a good shot to return for this weekend's series against the Angels.

The Tigers transferred Jobe (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Thursday.

Jobe is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery and will miss the rest of the season, so the Tigers will move him to the 60-day IL to clear a 40-man spot for Matt Gage, who was selected from Triple-A Toledo on Thursday. A timeline for Jobe's return will likely surface following his procedure, though he almost certainly won't be cleared to pitch until late 2026 at the earliest.

The Tigers selected Gage's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.

Gage earned a promotion after collecting a 1.67 ERA and 28:4 K:BB over 32.1 innings with Toledo. He will give manager A.J. Hinch another left-handed relief option.

The Tigers optioned Brieske to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.

Brieske was knocked around for five runs while recording just one out in Wednesday's loss to the Orioles, pushing his ERA on the season to 6.55. He'll try to get back on track at Toledo.

Waters isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees.

Waters will take a seat for Thursday's series finale after going 1-for-6 with three strikeouts through the first two games. His absence will allow Nick Loftin to pick up a start in left field while batting seventh.

The Guardians optioned Nunez to Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.

The Guardians haven't announced a corresponding move, but sending Nunez down suggests Austin Hedges (concussion) will be ready to return when first eligible Friday. Nunez drew two starts and went 2-for-7 at the plate during his brief time with the big club.

Solano went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Diamondbacks.

The 37-year-old infielder finally got into the homer column, snapping a 38-game stretch without a long ball to start the season. With southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez toeing the slab for Arizona, Solano drew the start at first base in favor of the lefty-hitting Rowdy Tellez and has served the Mariners well in his short-side platoon the past few weeks. Over his last 29 plate appearances (12 games), Solano is slashing .346/.414/.500 with two extra-base hits, four RBI and three runs scored.
