  • Padres' Ty France: On bench, but playing time on rise

France is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. France will head to the bench after he went 6-for-16 with a solo home run, a double and three additional runs while starting at first base in five of the Padres' previous six games. The Padres have an opening in their everyday lineup for one of France, Miguel Andujar and Nick Castellanos, and manager Craig Stammen looks like he could ride the hottest bat of the trio in the short term until one player clearly separates himself from the others.

  • Padres' Ty France: Contract selected by San Diego

The Padres selected France to the major-league roster Wednesday. As expected, France is a member of the Padres' Opening Day roster after Sung-Mun Song (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. France put together a strong spring training across 19 Cactus League outings, finishing with a .306/.352/.510 slash line with two home runs and 12 RBI in 54 plate appearances. He should see occasional playing time as a utility man as long as Song is out of action.

  • Padres' Ty France: Makes Opening Day roster

France will be part of the Padres' Opening Day roster, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. France joined the Padres in mid-February on a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training. He played well at the plate across 17 Cactus League games, posting a .318/.367/.545 slash line with two home runs and 12 RBI in 49 plate appearances. With Sung-Mun Song (oblique) expected to open the season on the IL, France could see a fair amount of playing time as a utility man for San Diego.

  • Padres' Ty France: Realistic chance to crack roster

France appears to have a path to make the Opening Day roster, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Sung-Mun Song's oblique injury has seemingly opened up an opportunity for France, who has been seeing the ball well so far this spring. The 31-year-old is 10-for-27 (.370) at the dish with five RBI and two runs scored following Monday's exhibition against the Rangers. France is in consideration for a utility role of sorts, as he logged time at second base earlier in his career and could provide a solid bat off the bench, which as Cassavell notes, could be of interest to skipper Craig Stammen. However, this will all depend on whether Song is forced to begin the 2026 regular season on the injured list.

  • Blue Jays' Ty France: Lands on injured list

The Blue Jays placed France on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with left oblique inflammation. France's injury will force him to miss the remainder of the regular season, though he will be eligible to return before the start of the ALDS. His move to the IL will clear a roster spot for Anthony Santander (shoulder), who was activated from the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.

  • Blue Jays' Ty France: Slugs first homer with new team

France launched a solo home run as a pinch hitter during Wednesday's win over the Twins. The 31-year-old first baseman got some revenge against the team that shipped him out at the trade deadline, coming off the bench to loft a Genesis Cabrera splitter over the left-field wall in the eighth inning. It was France's seventh homer of the season and his first as a Blue Jay, and through 71 plate appearances with Toronto he's slashing .286/.352/.413 with five doubles, six RBI and eight runs.

  • Blue Jays' Ty France: Drives in two in Friday's win

France went 2-for-4 with two RBI in Friday's win over the Marlins. Getting the start at first base in place of Vladimir Guerrero (hamstring) and batting sixth, France rapped a two-run single in the first inning. He's started three straight games, going 3-for-10, but Guerrero could rejoin the starting nine as soon as Saturday, bumping France back into a bench role. Over 54 plate appearances since being acquired from the Twins at the trade deadline, France is slashing .327/.389/.429, but he's still looking for his first homer in a Blue Jays uniform.

  • Blue Jays' Ty France: Losing out on playing time

France is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers. On the bench for the fourth time in five games, France appears to have settled into a part-time role following George Springer's return from the 7-day injured list. Expect most of France's playing time to come against left-handed pitching with the Blue Jays roster at full strength.

  • Blue Jays' Ty France: Back in starting nine Thursday

France will start at first base and bat fifth in Thursday's game against the Cubs. Before being excluded from the lineup for Wednesday's 4-1 loss, France had started in each of the Blue Jays' previous six contests and went 10-for-22 with five doubles, one walk, five runs and two RBI. Though he's gotten off to a nice start to his tenure with the Blue Jays after being acquired from the Twins on July 31, France could fade into more of a part-time role once the Blue Jays get George Springer (concussion) back from the 7-day injured list.

  • Blue Jays' Ty France: Three doubles in Wednesday's rout

France went 4-for-4 with three doubles, four runs scored and an RBI in Wednesday's win over the Rockies. The Blue Jays wrapped up a record-setting series with a 20-1 rout, and France was right in the thick of the fireworks. The 31-year-old has three multi-hit performances in 14 games since the All-Star break, with the first two coming as a member of the Twins, and France is slashing .311/.415/.444 over that stretch with six doubles, three RBI and nine runs. Based on his usage since being traded to the Blue Jays, his main role over the final weeks of the season will be to handle first base against left-handed pitchers while Vladimir Guerrero slides over to designated hitter.

  • Blue Jays' Ty France: Exiting starting nine Sunday

France is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals. After being acquired from the Twins on Thursday, France picked up starts at designated hitter and first base in the first two games of the Blue Jays' series with the Royals, going 1-for-8 at the plate. Though he'll hit the bench Sunday while Nathan Lukes gets a day off from playing the outfield and serves as Toronto's DH, France should have a fairly clear path to regular at-bats until the Blue Jays get one or two of George Springer (concussion), Andres Gimenez (ankle) and Anthony Santander (shoulder) back from the injured list.

  • Blue Jays' Ty France: Heading to Toronto

The Blue Jays acquired France and Louis Varland from the Twins on Thursday in exchange for Alan Roden and Kendry Rojas, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports. France has been more of a part-time lineup presence for the Twins lately, but the organization still found a way to offload him at the deadline. The 31-year-old has a .251/.320/.357 slash line in 101 games this season and isn't likely to have a significant role with the first-place Blue Jays.

  • Twins' Ty France: Gets on base four times

France went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two walks, one RBI and three runs scored in Tuesday's 10-7 win over the Dodgers. France had a strong game from the No. 5 spot in the order, posting his first multi-hit effort since June 26 versus the Mariners. The first baseman has gone just 5-for-36 (.139) with three walks and seven strikeouts over 13 games in July, which has seen him slip into a fairly even timeshare with Kody Clemens at first base. Luckily for France, a righty, it hasn't become a straight platoon -- he's been in the lineup against three of the last seven right-handed starters the Twins have faced. For the season, France has a .249/.316/.357 slash line, six home runs, 43 RBI, 41 runs scored, 18 doubles and one stolen base across 367 plate appearances. Both France and Clemens could be at risk of losing playing time when Luke Keaschall (forearm) returns from the 60-day injured list, though Keaschall is expected to be more of a utility option once healthy.

  • Twins' Ty France: Fading into part-time role

France is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs. The right-handed-hitting France will head to the bench for the third time in the Twins' last four matchups with right-handed pitchers, as the left-handed-hitting Kody Clemens gets the nod at first base with righty Colin Rea on the hill for the Cubs. Clemens and France could be part of a loose platoon moving forward, though neither player has been especially productive in recent weeks. Dating back to June 20, France has delivered a .563 OPS, while Clemens has posted a .640 OPS over that same timeframe.

  • Twins' Ty France: Losing starts to Clemens

France is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays. For the second day in a row, France will head to the bench against a righty starter in Drew Rasmussen. The Twins haven't indicated that France is dealing with an injury, so he could simply be moving into the short side of a platoon at first base with the left-handed-hitting Kody Clemens. Since his six-game hitting streak came to an end June 7, France is slashing a woeful .209/.269/.337 with two home runs, 10 runs and nine RBI over 26 games.

  • Twins' Ty France: Rejoining lineup Friday

France (foot) is starting at first base and batting cleanup Friday against the Brewers. France sat the previous two contests after suffering a foot injury in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader, but he's back in action for Friday's series opener in Milwaukee. After posting a .745 OPS in his first 31 games of the year, France has struggled so far in May with a .217 average (10-for-46) and just two extra-base hits in 12 contests.

  • Twins' Ty France: Idle for Thursday's game

France (foot) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Orioles. On Wednesday, France exited in the fifth inning of the Twins' 6-3 win in the first game of a doubleheader due to a left foot contusion, then was withheld from action in the 8-6 win over the Orioles later on that day. The Twins are continuing to view France as day-to-day, but he'll miss out on a second straight start as the team wraps up its series in Baltimore. Kody Clemens will fill in for France at first base.

  • Twins' Ty France: Exits game with foot contusion

France was removed during the fifth inning of the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader in Baltimore with a left foot contusion, Bobby Nightengale of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports. He went 0-for-3 at the plate prior to his departure. France grounded out in the top of the fifth inning before being replaced on defense prior to the bottom of the frame. The Twins could have more information on France's status in between games, but France will likely sit out the second leg of the twin bill, at the very least.

  • Twins' Ty France: Clubs first long ball

France went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional RBI against the Royals in a 4-0 win Wednesday. France was the only Minnesota batter with more than one hit in the victory, and he drove in half of the team's runs on an RBI single in the sixth inning and a solo shot to left field in the ninth. It was the veteran first baseman's third multi-hit performance of the campaign, though he came into Wednesday in a 3-for-17 rut at the plate over his past five contests. France has settled in as the Twins' primary first baseman and has posted a .256/.304/.395 slash line through his first 46 plate appearances of the campaign.

  • Twins' Ty France: Not in Sunday's lineup

France is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros. France started Minnesota's first eight games of the season and will receive a day off after going 6-for-30 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Mickey Gasper will step in at first base for the series finale versus Houston.
