Astros' John Rooney: Out with elbow inflammation

The Astros placed Rooney on the 15-day injured list Tuesday due to left elbow inflammation, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

He will be eligible to return Sept. 9, but given the nature of the injury, Rooney might need more time to make a full recovery. The lefty reliever has made one appearance for Houston this season, surrendering one run over 1.1 frames.

  • A.J. Blubaugh RP | HOU

Astros' AJ Blubaugh: Recalled from Triple-A

The Astros recalled Blubaugh from Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Blubaugh has made one start and two relief appearances for the Astros this season, yielding 11 runs (six earned) with a 15:3 K:BB over 13 innings. He will pitch out of the bullpen.

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Activated, starting in left field

The Astros activated Alvarez (hand) from the 60-day injured list Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Alvarez wound up missing nearly four months of action with a small fracture in his right hand. He is starting in left field and batting cleanup in Tuesday's game against the Rockies. Alvarez slashed only .210/.306/.340in 29 games earlier this season before getting hurt.

  • Jovani Moran RP | BOS

Red Sox's Jovani Moran: Rejoins bullpen

The Red Sox recalled Moran from Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Moran has permitted three runs with a 5:3 K:BB over four innings covering two relief outings for the Red Sox this season. He will give manager Alex Cora another lefty in the bullpen.

  • Richard Fitts SP | STL

Red Sox's Richard Fitts: Goes on IL with arm neuritis

The Red Sox placed Fitts on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with right arm neuritis, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Fitts had to be lifted from Monday's outing in Baltimore due to the injury. It's unclear how much time the right-hander will miss, but the Red Sox will need someone to slot into Fitts' spot this weekend against the Pirates as a starter or bulk reliever.

  • Chase Meidroth 2B | CHW

White Sox's Chase Meidroth: Out of Tuesday's lineup

Meidroth is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Royals.

Meidroth had started the last four and nine of 10 contests after returning from the injured list, but he'll begin Tuesday's festivities on the bench. Lenyn Sosa is covering second base for the White Sox.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Yankees' Ryan McMahon: Sitting out versus left-hander

McMahon is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals.

The Yankees have faced very few left-handed pitchers over the last several weeks, but McMahon has now yielded third base to Amed Rosario each of the last two times the club has gone up against a southpaw. The Nationals are sending lefty MacKenzie Gore to the bump Tuesday.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Receiving Tuesday off

Jeffers is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays.

Jeffers started the previous four games but will take a seat Tuesday after going 2-for-14 with two walks, a double and two runs in that span. Mickey Gasper is starting behind the plate and batting eighth.

  • Edouard Julien 2B | COL

Twins' Edouard Julien: Settling in at first base

Julien will start at first base and bat fifth in Tuesday's game versus the Blue Jays.

He'll pick up his third straight start at first base and will man the position for the fourth time in five contests. The 26-year-old is slashing just .186/.222/.279 this month, but the Twins might want to give Julien a long look at first base while Kody Clemens settles into more of a utility role.

  • Kody Clemens 1B | MIN

Twins' Kody Clemens: Exiting starting nine

Clemens is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's contest in Toronto.

Clemens is slashing only .192/.241/.321 in August and looks to be sliding back into more of a utility role, with Edouard Julien emerging as the primary first baseman against right-handers. The 29-year-old Clemens has been out of the lineup twice over the last five games, and in his three starts over that span he has played three different positions.
