  • Red Sox's Tyler Samaniego: Optioned to Triple-A

The Red Sox optioned Samaniego to Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. Samaniego has fared well with the Red Sox this season, posting a 2.66 ERA and 17:8 K:BB over 20.1 innings, but he's being sent out in order to clear a spot for the addition of Tommy Kahnle to the Boston bullpen. The left-handed Samaniego should get another chance with the big club later this summer.

  • Red Sox's Tyler Samaniego: Operating as opener Friday

Samaniego will serve as the Red Sox's opening pitcher Friday in Cleveland, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports. Called up from Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, Samaniego is now slated for the first start of his major-league career a day later, though he'll likely be limited to an inning or two. The southpaw will be followed by Brayan Bello, who will operate in a bulk-relief role for the fourth time in five outings. Samaniego owns an impressive 1.04 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 13 strikeouts over 17.1 frames in 18 appearances out of the bullpen with Boston this season.

  • Red Sox's Tyler Samaniego: Recalled from Triple-A

The Red Sox recalled Samaniego from Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports. He'll slide into the roster spot vacated by the injured Garrett Whitlock (knee). Samaniego has posted a 1.04 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 13:7 K:BB in 17.1 innings this season out of Boston's bullpen.

  • Red Sox's Tyler Samaniego: Sent back to Triple-A

The Red Sox optioned Samaniego to Triple-A Worcester on Sunday. After he worked in relief the previous two days and with the Red Sox needing to clear room for Danny Coulombe (neck) to return from the injured list, Samaniego became a roster casualty. Samaniego has posted a 1.04 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 13:7 K:BB in 17.1 innings this season and shouldn't have to wait long for his next call-up to the big leagues.

  • Red Sox's Tyler Samaniego: Officially called up

The Red Sox recalled Samaniego from Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday. The left-hander was sent to Worcester last week but is back in the majors with Sonny Gray (hamstring) landing on the injured list. Samaniego made his first three MLB appearances during his stint with Boston earlier this season, and he went unscored upon with a 4:3 K:BB across 3.2 innings.

  • Red Sox's Tyler Samaniego: Summoned from minors

The Red Sox recalled Samaniego from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday. Samaniego was a late cut after a nice spring training and didn't have to wait long for a promotion. The lefty has permitted three runs (two earned) with a 3:2 K:BB over 5.1 frames in his first three appearances with Worcester. Samaniego will be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game.

  • Red Sox's Tyler Samaniego: Optioned to Triple-A

The Red Sox optioned Samaniego to Triple-A Worcester on Monday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Samaniego spun 5.1 scoreless innings in Grapefruit League play, collecting a 6:2 K:BB with just one hit allowed. It wasn't enough to capture a spot on the Opening Day roster, but Samaniego is poised to make his major-league debut at some point this season.

  • Red Sox's Tyler Samaniego: Ready for spring debut

Samaniego (back) is scheduled to make a relief appearance Tuesday in the Red Sox's exhibition versus Team Puerto Rico, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports. Samaniego had been scheduled to make an appearance early in the Grapefruit League slate, but a back issue cropped up and prevented him from pitching. The young lefty wasn't shut down for long and has been able to ramp back up through bullpen sessions and live batting practice over the past week, setting the stage for him to make his spring debut Tuesday. Samaniego was added to the Red Sox's 40-man roster over the winter but is expected to open the season in the Triple-A Worcester bullpen.

  • Red Sox's Tyler Samaniego: Battling back tightness

Samaniego didn't pitch as scheduled in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins due to back tightness, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports. Manager Alex Cora said after the game that Samaniego's injury isn't too serious, and he should be able to get into a game within the next few days. The 27-year-old lefty posted a 3.08 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 26.1 innings with the Pirates' Double-A affiliate last year before being shipped to Boston in the offseason. He will most likely report to Triple-A Worcester to begin the regular season and could be a candidate to debut in the big leagues at some point this year.

  • Pirates' Tyler Samaniego: Makes season debut Saturday

Samaniego (shoulder) gave up an earned run on one hit and struck out one over an inning of relief Saturday in Double-A Altoona's 4-2 loss to New Hampshire. Samaniego exited a March 16 Grapefruit League outing with cramping in his left shoulder, but the issue didn't prevent him from being included on Altoona's Opening Day roster. The reliever finished the past season at Altoona, logging a 3.52 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB across 30.2 innings while going 10-for-10 in save chances.
