Red Sox's Tyler Samaniego: Officially called up
The Red Sox recalled Samaniego from Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday.
The left-hander was sent to Worcester last week but is back in the majors with Sonny Gray (hamstring) landing on the injured list. Samaniego made his first three MLB appearances during his stint with Boston earlier this season, and he went unscored upon with a 4:3 K:BB across 3.2 innings.

Red Sox's Tyler Samaniego: Set to rejoin big club
The Red Sox will recall Samaniego from Triple-A Worcester prior to Tuesday's game versus the Yankees, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Samaniego will absorb the roster spot vacated by the injured Sonny Gray (hamstring). The left-handed Samaniego turned in three scoreless appearances during an earlier stint with Boston, collecting a 4:3 K:BB in 3.2 innings.

Red Sox's Tyler Samaniego: Returned to Triple-A
The Red Sox optioned Samaniego to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
The left-hander was called up by Boston last week and delivered three scoreless appearances with a 4:3 K:BB in three outings, but he'll be the odd man out of the bullpen with Jack Anderson being promoted Tuesday. Samaniego spent most of last season at the Double-A level and had a 3.38 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 30:6 K:BB across 26.1 innings. He seems likely to get another look in Boston this season after pitching well in his first taste of the big leagues.

Red Sox's Tyler Samaniego: Summoned from minors
The Red Sox recalled Samaniego from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday.
Samaniego was a late cut after a nice spring training and didn't have to wait long for a promotion. The lefty has permitted three runs (two earned) with a 3:2 K:BB over 5.1 frames in his first three appearances with Worcester. Samaniego will be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game.

Red Sox's Tyler Samaniego: Optioned to Triple-A
The Red Sox optioned Samaniego to Triple-A Worcester on Monday, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Samaniego spun 5.1 scoreless innings in Grapefruit League play, collecting a 6:2 K:BB with just one hit allowed. It wasn't enough to capture a spot on the Opening Day roster, but Samaniego is poised to make his major-league debut at some point this season.

Red Sox's Tyler Samaniego: Ready for spring debut
Samaniego (back) is scheduled to make a relief appearance Tuesday in the Red Sox's exhibition versus Team Puerto Rico, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.
Samaniego had been scheduled to make an appearance early in the Grapefruit League slate, but a back issue cropped up and prevented him from pitching. The young lefty wasn't shut down for long and has been able to ramp back up through bullpen sessions and live batting practice over the past week, setting the stage for him to make his spring debut Tuesday. Samaniego was added to the Red Sox's 40-man roster over the winter but is expected to open the season in the Triple-A Worcester bullpen.

Red Sox's Tyler Samaniego: Set for mound session
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that Samaniego (back) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
A tight back prevented Samaniego from making his Grapefruit League debut over the weekend as planned, but the lefty hasn't been shut down and looks like he could be cleared to pitch in a game in the near future if he feels fine following Tuesday's throwing session. Though he occupies a spot on the Red Sox's 40-man roster, Samaniego doesn't look like a serious threat to join Boston for Opening Day and is expected to begin the season in the bullpen at Triple-A Worcester.

Red Sox's Tyler Samaniego: Battling back tightness
Samaniego didn't pitch as scheduled in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins due to back tightness, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Manager Alex Cora said after the game that Samaniego's injury isn't too serious, and he should be able to get into a game within the next few days. The 27-year-old lefty posted a 3.08 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 26.1 innings with the Pirates' Double-A affiliate last year before being shipped to Boston in the offseason. He will most likely report to Triple-A Worcester to begin the regular season and could be a candidate to debut in the big leagues at some point this year.

Red Sox's Tyler Samaniego: Joining Red Sox
Samaniego was traded along with Johan Oviedo and Adonys Guzman from the Pirates to the Red Sox in exchange for Jhostynxon Garcia and Jesus Travieso on Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
The Pirates added Samaniego to the 40-man roster in mid-November, but he'll now try to reach the majors with the Red Sox. He'll be entering his age-27 season and has yet to pitch above Double-A, though he did post a strong 3.08 ERA and 0.92 WHIP across 26.1 innings with Altoona while working exclusively as a reliever. Samaniego is a strong candidate to begin the 2026 season with Triple-A Worcester, but he could provide depth to the Boston bullpen at some point in 2026.

Pirates' Tyler Samaniego: Protected from Rule 5 Draft
The Pirates selected Samaniego's contract from Double-A Altoona on Tuesday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.
The 26-year-old southpaw had been eligible to be selected in the Rule 5 Draft, but his addition to Pittsburgh's 40-man roster will now prevent that from happening. Samaniego finished the Double-A season with a 3.08 ERA and 0.92 WHIP alongside a 30:6 K:BB through 26.1 innings and could be bumped up to Triple-A for the start of 2026.

Pirates' Tyler Samaniego: Makes season debut Saturday
Samaniego (shoulder) gave up an earned run on one hit and struck out one over an inning of relief Saturday in Double-A Altoona's 4-2 loss to New Hampshire.
Samaniego exited a March 16 Grapefruit League outing with cramping in his left shoulder, but the issue didn't prevent him from being included on Altoona's Opening Day roster. The reliever finished the past season at Altoona, logging a 3.52 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB across 30.2 innings while going 10-for-10 in save chances.

Pirates' Tyler Samaniego: Experiences shoulder cramping
Samaniego is dealing with cramping in his left shoulder, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.
Samaniego had to exit a Grapefruit League game Thursday due to the injury. It's unclear at this point how long he might be out, but if it's indeed just cramping it shouldn't be too lengthy of an absence.

Pirates' Tyler Samaniego: Suffers apparent injury
Samaniego exited Thursday's Grapefruit League game with an apparent injury, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.
Samaniego was in big-league spring training for the first time in his career and had a mixed level of success over three outings. He had an impressive 2022 campaign with Double-A Altoona, maintaining a 3.52 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB across 30.2 frames. If the injury proves to be minor, Samaniego is a candidate to earn some innings out of Pittsburgh's bullpen in 2023.
