  • Romy Gonzalez DH | BOS

Red Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Getting regular playing time

Gonzalez started at first base and went 2-for-4 in Wednesday's 8-1 loss to the Guardians.

Gonzalez, who was in the starting lineup for a seventh consecutive game, got the call at first base against Cleveland left-hander Joey Cantillo. He eventually moved to second base, where he may get more chances going forward due to the domino effect of Roman Anthony's oblique injury. With the Red Sox all of sudden down a couple of outfielders -- Wilyer Abreu (calf) is the other -- Ceddanne Rafaela is needed in center field, opening up second base for Gonzalez and others.

  • Rob Refsnyder DH | SEA

Red Sox's Rob Refsnyder: Replaces injured teammate in RF

Refsnyder started in right field and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Wednesday's 8-1 loss to Cleveland.

Refsnyder replaced the injured Roman Anthony (oblique) in right field, although he would have been in the starting lineup somewhere, as Boston faced left-hander Joey Cantillo. Anthony's injury, which he believes is a Grade 2 strain, could keep him out of action for between four and six weeks. That injury, and the lingering rehab for Wilyer Abreu (calf), means Refsnyder could see additional opportunities, even against right-handers.

Warren allowed two runs on five hits and no walks while striking out four batters over five-plus innings in a no-decision against Houston on Wednesday.

New York's bullpen went on to allow the Astros to eventually take the lead, preventing Warren from earning his second straight win. Still, this was a promising result for the right-hander, who has given up two or fewer runs in seven of his past eight starts. He has a 2.79 ERA during that span, lowering his overall mark to 4.28 on the season.

Nonetheless, he kept Houston within arm's length, which proved critical when the Astros mounted a comeback over the sixth through eighth frames. Alexander has now given up three or fewer runs in seven straight outings, posting a 2.79 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with a 38:10 K:BB across 38.2 innings during that span. Adell erased a two-run deficit in the sixth inning with a three-run homer to center, his 33rd of the season, before plating the decisive run with an infield single in the eighth. With 33 homers and 90 RBI, Adell has already set career highs after previously maxing out at 20 homers and 62 RBI in 2024. The breakout campaign has been fueled by a recent surge, as Adell has gone deep eight times in his last 16 games and is batting 22 for 60 (.367) during that stretch.

  • Reid Detmers SP | LAA

Angels' Reid Detmers: Grabs third save

Detmers earned the save in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Royals, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.
