  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Mauled by Tigers

Springs (3-9) took the loss Wednesday, coughing up six runs on six hits and four walks over 4.1 innings as the A's were downed 6-1 by the Tigers. He struck out four. Homers by Jake Rogers in the second inning and Spencer Torkelson in the fifth accounted for most of the damage off Springs, who got the hook after 92 pitches (49 strikes). The southpaw has been tagged for five or more runs in five of his last six starts, sending his ERA soaring from 4.37 to 6.08. The A's remain on the fringes of the playoff picture, both in the AL West and the wild-card race, but they might have to make some major rotation upgrades at the trade deadline if they're going to make any kind of serious push.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Tagged for six runs in loss

Springs (3-8) allowed six runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out two over 5.1 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Dodgers. Springs had a rotten June, allowing at least three runs in each of his six outings for the month. He gave up a total of 32 runs (30 earned) over 27 innings in that span. He still hasn't won a game since April 14 versus the Rangers. Springs is at a 5.79 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 80:33 K:BB through 93.1 innings over 18 starts this season. Springs has had a particularly tough time at home with a 6.79 ERA over his 11 home starts, including two games in Las Vegas. His next outing is projected to be on the road in Detroit.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Better in no-decision

Springs did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Giants, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out six. It was a solid outing overall for Springs, who held San Francisco to one run through his first five innings before giving up two runs in the sixth. It's certainly a step in the right direction for the left-hander, who had allowed 21 earned runs in just 16.1 innings across his previous four starts. Overall, Springs is 3-7 with a 5.52 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 78:29 K:BB across 17 starts (88 innings) this season. He's currently in line for a tough home matchup with the Dodgers his next time out.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Lasts 3.2 frames in no-decision

Springs didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Angels after allowing six runs on four hits and four walks across 3.2 innings. He struck out four. Springs couldn't get out of the fourth inning, marking the third time over his last four outings that he hasn't pitched more than four frames. Springs has a 9.70 ERA and 1.88 WHIP over his last five appearances dating back to May 27, so it's hard to trust him right now. Springs is slated to make his next start on the road against the Giants.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Tagged for three homers in loss

Springs (3-7) allowed eight runs (six earned) on seven hits and struck out five without walking a batter over four innings to take the loss Sunday versus the Rockies. Springs had the misfortune of being the A's pitcher to start twice during their six-game homestand in Las Vegas. It went poorly both times for the southpaw, who allowed 13 runs (11 earned) over nine innings in those starts. He wasn't trending well to begin with -- he's now allowed at least four runs in five straight appearances. Springs is at a 5.13 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 68:23 K:BB through 79 innings over 15 starts this season. He is tentatively projected for a home start in Sacramento against the Angels his next time out, though Springs seems to be a risky option even in favorable matchups at this time.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Surrenders five runs in no-decision

Springs did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings against the Brewers. He struck out three. Springs was able to grind through five innings, but they weren't particularly effective, as he allowed plenty of traffic and surrendered a pair of homers. After not allowing a homer in any of his first four starts of the campaign, the southpaw has been plagued by the gopher ball, allowing at least one ball to leave the yard in nine of his past 10 outings. The 33-year-old will take a 3-6 record with a 4.68 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 63:23 K:BB across 75 innings (14 starts) into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Sunday against the Rockies.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Struggles in no-decision

Springs didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Cubs. He allowed four runs on seven hits, including two home runs, and a walk across 3.2 innings while striking out three. Springs has given up at least four earned runs in three of his last five appearances, and he's failed to pitch past the fifth inning in his last two starts. Over that five-start stretch, the 33-year-old southpaw owns a 5.19 ERA and 1.42 WHIP, but perhaps the most concerning stat is the seven homers he's conceded over the 26-inning sample. Springs will aim to bounce back in his next start, scheduled for next week at home against the Brewers.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Remains winless in May

Springs (3-5) allowed four runs on three hits and three walks while striking out three over 6.1 innings to take the loss versus the Padres on Friday. Springs was tagged for three home runs in the contest, with Ramon Laureano's solo shot in the seventh being the difference. This was Springs' third straight loss, and he's allowed nine runs (eight earned) over 17.1 innings in that span. For the season, he has a 4.11 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 50:19 K:BB through 61.1 innings across 11 starts. Springs was sharp to start the year, but all 11 homers he's allowed have come over his last seven games, a span in which he's gone 0-5. He'll try to right the ship in his next start, which is projected to come at home versus the Mariners.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Struggles early in loss

Springs (3-3) allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five over five innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Cardinals. Springs was blitzed as the Cardinals rallied for four runs in the first inning. The Athletics got three back in the next frame, but they never pulled even, leaving Springs to take the loss even after he settled in to avoid further damage. He's gone five starts without a win, allowing 19 runs over 24.1 innings in that span. For the season, he's at a 4.22 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 44:15 K:BB through 49 innings over nine starts. The southpaw's next outing is projected to be a favorable home matchup versus the Giants over the weekend.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Contains Phillies in no-decision

Springs didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing two runs on eight hits and no walks in 5.1 innings. He struck out four. The 33-year-old southpaw filled the zone Wednesday -- perhaps to a fault -- as he threw 55 of his 75 pitches for strikes but gave up his second-most knocks of the year. Even so, Springs managed to limit the damage and has now tossed at least five frames in every start so far this season, except for the outing prior to Wednesday, when he was lifted early due to hip soreness. He'll bring a 3.89 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 39:12 K:BB across 44 innings into his next outing, which is set to come against the Cardinals.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Cleared for next start

Springs (hip) is listed as the Athletics' probable starter for Wednesday's game against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. Though Springs was lifted after three innings during his most recent start Thursday after experiencing right hip soreness, Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said afterward that the southpaw was removed merely as a precaution. The skipper added that he didn't expect Springs to miss a start, and the 33-year-old looks like he'll be ready to go for his next turn through the rotation. He'll head into Wednesday's outing with a 3-2 record, 3.06 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 35:12 K:BB through 38.2 innings over seven starts.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Expected to make next start

Springs (hip) is expected to be available for his next scheduled start, Jason Burke of SI.com reports. Springs exited Thursday's 6-3 win over the Royals in the fourth inning due to right hip soreness, but manager Mark Kotsay noted after the contest that the pitcher's removal was precautionary. Kotsay explained that Springs was likely able to continue, and he "made the decision" for his starter, removing him from the game, but the manager doesn't "see any reason for him to miss a start." Springs is projected to face Philadelphia on the road early next week.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Leaves outing with hip soreness

Springs was removed from Thursday's start against the Royals after three innings due to right hip soreness, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Springs probably wasn't long for the game, anyway, having needed 67 pitches to navigate through his three frames, but an issue with his hip was apparently the reason for the quick hook. The southpaw yielded two runs on five hits, a walk and a hit-by-pitch before exiting. The Athletics should have more information on Springs' condition after the game. He is tentatively lined up to face the Phillies on the road in his next start.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Falters late in loss

Springs (3-2) took the loss against the Rangers on Saturday, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts over six innings. Springs entered the sixth inning with a 3-2 lead but surrendered a two-run homer off the bat of Josh Jung before finishing the frame. The southpaw has now allowed 11 earned runs over consecutive losses after holding opponents to just four earned runs through his first four starts. He'll carry a 3.79 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 31:11 K:BB across 35.2 innings into a home matchup with the Guardians next weekend.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Allows one hit over seven innings

Springs (2-0) picked up the win Thursday against the Yankees, allowing just one hit and two walks with six strikeouts across seven shutout innings. On a getaway day, neither offense seemed interested in scoring, as the Athletics scratched out one run on seven hits in eight innings against Ryan Weathers on the opposite side. Springs had everything working Thursday, as his fastball, slider and changeup kept the Yankees off balance. Springs now has a microscopic 1.47 ERA and 15:6 K:BB across his first 18.1 innings this season. He's been victorious in his past two starts and is slated to face the Rangers at home Tuesday.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Sharp in win over Astros

Springs (1-0) allowed one run on two hits and a walk while striking out seven over six innings to earn the win over the Astros on Friday. Springs collected his first quality start of the season and showed some improvement from his season debut. He threw 66 of 103 pitches for strikes in this outing, limiting the damage to a Yordan Alvarez sacrifice fly in the third inning. Springs has a 9:4 K:BB with three runs allowed over 11.1 innings across two starts this season. He had a decent 2025, posting a 4.11 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 138:54 K:BB over 171 innings across 32 appearances (30 starts). Springs should be firmly in the rotation for the Athletics this season, and he could rebound in the strikeout department since his 7.3 K/9 last year was a career low. The southpaw is projected to make his next start on the road versus the Yankees.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Comes away with no-decision

Springs didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 8-7 extra-innings loss to the Blue Jays, giving up two runs on five hits and three walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out two. The veteran southpaw tossed 51 of 83 pitches for strikes in a stingy performance. Springs set career highs in 2025 with 171 innings and 11 wins, but his 4.11 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 138:54 K:BB highlight his somewhat limited fantasy appeal. He'll try to give the A;s more quality innings in his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next weekend against the Astros.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Punches out four in spring outing

Springs allowed three hits and a walk over 2.1 scoreless innings in Wednesday's Cactus League loss to the Diamondbacks. He struck out four. Springs allowed the first two batters he faced to reach base but ultimately worked through traffic to deliver a scoreless outing. The performance marked an improvement from the 33-year-old's first Cactus League appearance against the Royals on Friday, when he allowed four earned runs, including a home run, over 1.2 innings. The southpaw appeared in 32 games (30 starts) in 2025 spanning 171 innings, posting a 4.11 ERA and 1.21 WHIP with a career-low 7.3 K/9. Springs is expected to slot into the middle of the rotation for his second season with the Athletics in 2026.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Secures 11th win

Springs (11-11) allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out three over five innings to earn the win over the Astros on Tuesday. Springs got an extra couple of days between starts this time and turned in a good performance to earn his first win since July 30 versus the Mariners. The southpaw had posted a 4.72 ERA over 40 innings during his eight-start winless stretch. He's at a 4.11 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 138:54 K:BB across 171 innings through 32 appearances (30 starts) this season. Given his recent additional rest, it's not guaranteed Springs will get another start in 2025 -- he's already 35.2 innings above his previous career high from 2022.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Bumped from Sunday's start

Springs will not start Sunday's game against the Pirates, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Springs was never confirmed as Sunday's starter, but he did line up to take the mound on regular rest. It's unclear if he's being shut down, or if he's just being pushed back for extra rest. Mitch Spence will instead toe the rubber for the Athletics on Sunday.
