  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Mixed results in second win

Detmers (2-5) earned the win Saturday against the Rays, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks in five innings. He struck out seven. Detmers continues to be an erratic performer for both the Angels and fantasy managers alike, as he's now issued multiple free passes and also given up at least three runs in seven of his 12 starts. On a positive note, the 26-year-old left-hander has now recorded at least seven strikeouts six times this year. Detmers does have a strong 1.18 WHIP and 82:22 K:BB over 68 innings, but his 4.63 ERA makes him a volatile fantasy option, especially since he's next ticketed for a matchup against the Dodgers.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Racks up 14 strikeouts

Detmers did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing one run on a hit and no walks over eight innings against Texas. He struck out 14. Detmers was utterly dominant, logging a season high in innings while matching Emerson Hancock for the highest single-game strikeout total in MLB this season. His lone blemish was a Jake Burger solo homer in the second inning, as otherwise Detmers carved through the Rangers' lineup while impressively issuing no walks. Though the southpaw was unable to pick up the win, Sunday marked a massive bounce-back effort after he posted a 6.33 ERA and 1.59 WHIP across 21.1 innings over his previous four outings. The 26-year-old will carry a 1-5 record with a 4.57 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 75:19 K:BB across 63 innings (11 starts) into his next outing, which is tentatively scheduled for Saturday against Tampa Bay.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Wild in loss to Blue Jays

Detmers (1-3) took the loss against the Blue Jays on Friday, allowing two runs on two hits and six walks with three strikeouts over 3.2 innings. Detmers limited the damage but lacked command from the start, throwing just 56 of 99 pitches for strikes while issuing a season-high six walks. It marked the first time he failed to complete four innings all season and snapped a streak of four straight outings working into the sixth frame or beyond. The southpaw owns a 4.33 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 47:15 K:BB across 43.2 innings and lines up for a road matchup against the Guardians next week.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Start moved to Monday

Detmers is no longer scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Padres and will instead take the hill for Monday's game versus the Blue Jays in Anaheim, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Rather than waiting until the upcoming week to break in a new fifth starter, the Angels will have Walbert Urena enter the rotation for Sunday's series finale. Detmers tentatively lines up for two starts next week as a result, with his second turn set to come next Sunday in Kansas City.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Strikes out nine in win Tuesday

Detmers (1-1) earned the win Tuesday against the Yankees, allowing one run on four hits and no walks with nine strikeouts across seven innings. After getting hit hard in his previous start against Atlanta, Detmers went a season-high seven innings, and it was his second start of the season with nine strikeouts and zero walks after he accomplished the feat in just 4.2 innings versus Houston on March 28. Detmers has always had intriguing stuff, but putting it together consistently has been the issue for the 26-year-old. Now getting a chance in the rotation again this season, Detmers owns a 3.57 ERA and 26:6 K:BB across 22.2 innings. Four of his strikeouts came on his changeup, which has been his most improved pitch in 2026 to go along with a mid-90s fastball and plus slider. Detmers is in line to make his next start Sunday at home against the Padres.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Struggles with loud contact

Detmers (0-1) took the loss Wednesday against Atlanta, allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits and two walks in 4.1 innings. He struck out four. Hard contact plagued the left-hander Wednesday, as four of his knocks allowed went for extra bases. Detmers was never quite able to settle in either, giving up at least one run in each of the first three frames before being chased from the outing at 92 pitches with one out in the fifth. Detmers' return to the rotation this year has yielded mixed results -- he holds a 4.60 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 17:6 K:BB over 15.2 innings -- and things won't get much easier with a tough matchup against the Yankees looming for his next start.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Posts best spring start so far

Detmers completed four innings in a Cactus League contest against Cleveland on Friday, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out five batters. Detmers gave up a pair of runs in the second inning but ended his start by retiring the final seven batters he faced. The southpaw threw 39 of 64 pitches for strikes and got a healthy 11 whiffs. Detmers had given up five runs over 4.2 frames across his first two appearances this spring, so Friday's outing was a step in the right direction. He's locked into a role in the Angels' rotation to begin the campaign, but given his success as a reliever last year, the team could opt to move him back to the bullpen at some point if the return to starting doesn't go well.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Unsteady in spring debut

Detmers allowed three runs on three hits and one walk while striking out one batter over 1.2 innings in a Cactus League start against Texas on Monday. Detmers is being given the opportunity to return to the rotation this season, so his first appearance of the exhibition slate came as a starter. It didn't go well for the left-hander, however, as he fell behind 2-0 after two batters when Danny Jansen took him deep to left field. Detmers gave up another run later in the first inning and was pulled having recorded just two outs, but under spring-training rules, he returned for the top of the second and had a much better outcome, retiring all three batters he faced in that frame. Detmers was solid as a reliever last year and has shown flashes of brilliance as a starter in previous campaigns, so there's reason to hope he can stick in the Angels' rotation through the season despite Monday's rough spring showing.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Won't return in 2025

The Angels transferred Detmers (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Friday. Left elbow inflammation forced Detmers onto the injured list Thursday, and the Angels will officially keep him out for the rest of the season now that he's on the 60-day IL. He'll conclude his first season as a full-time reliever with a 3.96 ERA and 1.30 WHIP over 63.2 innings. Connor Brogdon was selected from Triple-A to take Detmers' 40-man roster spot and replace Andrew Chafin (triceps) in the major-league bullpen.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Lands on IL

The Angels placed Detmers on the 15-day injured list Thursday with left elbow inflammation. Detmers had to depart Wednesday's game against the Twins due to the injury after not liking how the ball was coming out of his hand. The injury may end the southpaw's campaign as he won't be eligible to return until the final series of the season. In a corresponding move, the Angels recalled Chase Silseth from Triple-A Salt Lake.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Charged with loss, blown save

Detmers (3-3) took the loss and the blown save Friday against Detroit, allowing three runs on one hit and two walks in one-third of an inning. He struck out one. It was the fourth blown save of the season for Detmers, who has struggled quite a bit lately after going without an earned run allowed over 13 innings back in June. While the left-hander does have a strong 1.06 WHIP and 20:2 K:BB over his last 16 frames, he has a 5.63 ERA during that span since the beginning of July. Detmers' recent shortcomings could open the door for Andrew Chafin and/or Luis Garcia to handle more high-leverage work going forward.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Earns second save

Detmers earned the save in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the A's, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning. With Kenley Jansen unavailable after pitching back-to-back days, Detmers was tasked with protecting a one-run lead against the top of the A's batting order in the ninth. The left-hander was up to the task, retiring the side on just 10 pitches while striking out a pair. Detmers has impressed in a high-leverage role recently -- he's now held opponents scoreless in 11 straight innings, allowing just six hits while striking out 18 in that span. Detmers has two saves on the season while lowering his ERA to 5.22 with a 1.53 WHIP and 37:13 K:BB across 29.1 innings.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Thriving in high-leverage role

Detmers earned a hold against Seattle on Saturday, allowing one hit and striking out two batters over one scoreless inning. Detmers handled the seventh frame with the Angels up by two runs. The left-hander began the campaign working in a lower-leverage role and had a 10.05 ERA with no holds or saves through his first 12 appearances, but since then he's turned things around, surrendering just one run over his last 12 outings covering 13 innings while posting a 19:7 K:BB. He's become one of the Angels' top high-leverage options, picking up six holds and one save across his past nine appearances.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Collects extra-inning save

Detmers struck out two in a perfect 10th inning Tuesday to record his first career save in a 4-3 win over the Red Sox. Kenley Jansen handled the ninth inning to keep the game tied at 3-3, and when the Angels pushed a run across in the top of the 10th, manager Ron Washington brought in Detmers to face Boston's 5-6-7 hitters. The southpaw was up to the task, fanning Carlos Narvaez and Trevor Story while firing nine of 11 pitches for strikes. Detmers is emerging as a high-leverage weapon for the Halos in his first season working out of the bullpen, and over his last 10 appearances he's produced a 0.82 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 15:6 K:BB in 11 innings while racking up one win, one save and four holds.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Trounced by Seattle

Detmers (0-1) gave up five runs on five hits without recording an out in relief to take the loss Wednesday against the Mariners. Detmers entered in the seventh inning with the scored tied 2-2. The lefty was initially unlucky as the first two batters he faced reach on an infield single and a bunt single, respectively, but Detmers then gave up three more consecutive knocks -- including a Julio Rodriguez double -- and was pulled having failed to record an out. In total, five runs were charged to Detmers' line, pushing his season ERA all the way up to 5.79. The first-round pick of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft is transitioning to a relief role this season and had been pitching well prior to getting blown up Wednesday, as he entered the contest against Seattle with a 2.57 ERA and 14:5 K:BB over 14 innings.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Beginning 2025 in bullpen

Angels manager Ron Washington said Monday that Detmers will open the 2025 season in the bullpen, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports. Detmers had been competing against Jack Kochanowicz for the final spot in the Angels' rotation. With Kochanowicz winning the job, Detmers will work out of the Halos' bullpen and could be used as a long reliever, per Jack Janes of The Sporting Tribune. Detmers worked in relief in each of his last three spring outings and allowed four runs (three earned) on 11 hits and two walks while striking out 13 across 11.2 frames.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Looks good in piggyback role

Detmers pitched four innings in a Cactus League contest against the Padres on Sunday, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and no walks while striking out four batters. Kyle Hendricks began the game with five frames for the Angels, and Detmers followed by pitching the remaining four innings. The lefty is locked into a competition with Jack Kochanowicz for the final spot in the Angels' rotation, and both pitchers have made a strong case this spring. Detmers has posted a 2.30 ERA and 12:2 K:BB over 13.2 innings while Kochanowicz has a 2.92 ERA and 7:4 K:BB across 12.1 frames. Jack Janes of The Sporting Tribune reports that the Angels are considering using whichever of the two pitchers doesn't get the rotation spot as a long reliever, though it's not clear if the team is leaning toward Detmers to come out of the bullpen since he's worked in relief in three out of his five Cactus League appearances, while Kochanowicz has started in all four of his outings.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Settles with Halos

Detmers agreed to a one-year, $1.825 million contract with the Angels on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. The left-hander spent much of 2024 in the minors and finished with a 6.70 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 109:38 K:BB in 17 starts with the Angels. Detmers may need a strong showing during spring training in order to break camp with the big-league club in 2025.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Lit up again Saturday

Detmers (4-8) took the loss against Houston on Saturday, allowing seven runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out three batters over two-plus innings. Detmers gave up a run in the first frame and two more in the second, and things got really out of hand for him in the third. He allowed all four batters he faced in that inning to reach base -- on a home run, two doubles and a single -- and was charged with four runs. It was another implosion for Detmers, who gave up seven runs over 5.1 frames against the White Sox in his previous start. The pair of awful outings come after he appeared to turn a corner upon his return from the minors Sept. 3 -- in his first two starts following the promotion, he yielded just four runs while notching an 18:4 K:BB across 12 innings.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Drawing another start

Detmers is scheduled to start Monday's game against the Twins in Minnesota. Detmers will draw a second straight start in the Angels' six-man rotation after he impressed in his return to the big leagues this past Tuesday against the Dodgers. While making his first start for the Halos since June 1, Detmers limited a tough Los Angeles lineup to two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters over six innings.
