  • Oneil Cruz SS | PIT

    Pirates' Oneil Cruz: Call-up official

The Pirates recalled Cruz from Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday. He'll start at shortstop and bat sixth in the Pirates' series opener against the Cubs.

Infielder Liover Peguero was sent to Double-A Altoona to clear room on the 26-man active roster for Cruz, who is with the big club for the first time in 2022 after getting the chance to make his MLB debut last September. The Pirates delayed calling up Cruz more than two months into the season for dubious reasons, but he'll likely be immediately installed as the team's everyday shortstop. Over his 55 games with Indianapolis this season, Cruz slashed .232/.336/.422 with nine home runs and 11 stolen bases across 247 plate appearances.

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Braves' Dansby Swanson: Two steals in win

Swanson went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two steals in Sunday's win over the Cubs.

Swanson's two scores came on a Travis d'Arnaud homer in the first inning and an Austin Riley double in the fifth. He also swiped two bags against Kyle Hendricks to give him 11 this season. The shortstop has been on fire in June, with at least one hit in 15 of 17 games, including eight multi-hit games. Swanson is slashing .362/.443/.551 this month and has raised his season batting average to .294.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Dodgers' Trea Turner: Hitting streak up to 12 games

Turner went 1-for-4 with a stolen base and three strikeouts in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Guardians.

Turner's single led to an error that allowed the Dodgers' third run to score in the seventh inning. He promptly stole second, but he was left on base. The shortstop extended his hitting streak to 12 games, a span in which he's gone 16-for-49 (.327), though he's struck out three times in each of his last two contests. He's now slashing .301/.352/.480 with nine home runs, 14 steals, 49 RBI, 33 runs scored, two triples and 15 doubles through 281 plate appearances. With Mookie Betts (ribs) on the injured list, Turner should get an extended look as the Dodgers' leadoff hitter for at least a week.

  • Oneil Cruz SS | PIT

Pirates' Oneil Cruz: En route to big leagues

The Pirates plan to call up Cruz from Triple-A Indianapolis in advance of Monday's game against the Cubs, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Cruz's impending promotion comes after he was withheld from the Indianapolis lineup Sunday, with the 23-year-old concluding his time at Triple-A with a .233/.337/.424 slash line to go with nine home runs and 11 stolen bases across 246 plate appearances. According to Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com, Pirates general manager Ben Cherington reiterated in an interview earlier Sunday that the organization views Cruz as a shortstop, so he's expected to fill an everyday role at that position even though he's also received some exposure in left field at Triple-A this season. With Cruz in line to take over as Pittsburgh's primary shortstop, Diego Castillo is expected to transition into more of a utility role.

  • Orlando Arcia SS | MIN

Braves' Orlando Arcia: Sits in series finale

Arcia is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cubs.

Arcia will head to the bench after starting each of the past four games at the keystone while going 7-for-16 with two home runs, a double, a walk, four RBI and three runs. Phil Gosselin will get the nod at second base in his 2022 debut with Atlanta, but Arcia looks poised to handle a full-time role at the position while Ozzie Albies (foot) is likely sidelined for at least two months.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Brewers' Willy Adames: Homers in back-to-back games

Adames went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run Saturday in the Brewers' 7-3 win over the Reds.

The 26-year-old has now popped home runs in consecutive games to begin the series in Cincinnati and has six extra-base hits in his 10 contests since returning from the 10-day injured list earlier this month. He'll start at shortstop and bat second in Sunday's series finale.

  • Yu Chang SS | TB

Pirates' Yu Chang: Heads to bench

Chang is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

Chang will move to the bench after starting in five of the Pirates' last six games. Though the Pirates have typically deployed the righty-hitting Chang against left-handed pitching, he could see an uptick in starts against right-handers following Tucupita Marcano's (illness) recent placement on the COVID-19-related injured list. Hoy Park will fill in for Marcano at the keystone in Sunday's series finale, however.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Dodgers' Trea Turner: Homers to keep hit streak alive

Turner went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Guardians.

Turner struck out three times in the contest, but he also produced the game's only long ball with his two-run shot in the second inning. The homer was the shortstop's ninth this season and extended his hitting streak to 11 contests. During that stretch, he's slashing .333/.375/.622 with four home runs, seven RBI, eight runs and three stolen bases.

  • Diego Castillo 3B | MIN

Pirates' Diego Castillo: Belts fourth homer

Castillo went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run, a walk and a sacrifice fly in a 7-5 loss to the Giants on Saturday.

The 24-year-old rookie had a nice four-RBI night at the plate, hitting a sacrifice fly off Alex Wood in the first, and then belting a three-run home run off him in the third. The second baseman had been ice cold in June, hitting only .075 over 40 at-bats. He did hit for a respectable average in the minors last year, and he is projected to hit about 30 to 40 points higher than his current .195 average on the season.

  • Luke Williams SS | ATL

Marlins' Luke Williams: Logs steal as pinch runner

Williams notched a stolen base in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Mets.

Williams ran for Garrett Cooper after the latter's RBI single in the ninth inning. He was able to get into scoring position, but Williams was left on base as the Marlins' rally fell short. The 25-year-old utility man is up to three steals in four attempts while adding four RBI, six runs scored and a pair of doubles in 32 plate appearances between the Marlins and the Giants this season. He has yet to carve out a regular role, instead mainly serving as a defensive replacement.
