  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Hits first home run since May

Swanson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 8-6 win over the Rockies Swanson has been in a miserable funk at the plate, but he showed some signs of life with his eighth home run of the season Wednesday. It was the shortstop's first long ball since May 18, a span of 24 games. In the time between homers, Swanson batted just .135 with a .414 OPS and a lone RBI. It will take a few more good games for fantasy managers to begin to trust that the veteran is out of his slump.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Struggles continue Saturday

Swanson went 0-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and three strikeouts in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Giants. While Swanson salvaged some fantasy value by drawing a walk and coming around to score, he still had a rough day. The shortstop is just 1-for-12 over his last four games and is batting a paltry .133 this month, which has lowered his batting average on the season to .176. The Cubs don't have an obvious replacement for Swanson on their roster, however, unless they wanted to try Nico Hoerner at short on a more regular basis and open up second base for the likes of Matt Shaw or Pedro Ramirez.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Sitting again Sunday

Swanson is not in the starting lineup for Sunday night's contest against the Giants. Swanson will remain on the bench for the second straight contest, which doesn't come as much of a surprise after manager Craig Counsell said Saturday that the 32-year-old would "get a couple days off." Nico Hoerner will draw the start at shortstop while Pedro Ramirez enters the lineup at second base, batting eighth in the series finale with San Francisco.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Getting some time off

Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters Saturday that Swanson is healthy but will "get a couple of days off," Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports. Swanson is not in the Cubs' lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants, and it sounds like he may be on the bench for Sunday's series finale as well. The veteran shortstop has struggled at the plate this season, and over his last 10 games he's gone 5-for-33 (.152) with one RBI, two steals and 12 strikeouts. Nico Hoerner will start at shortstop Saturday, and Swanson's absence means more playing time is available for Pedro Ramirez.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Idle Saturday

Swanson isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants. Swanson will get a day off Saturday after going 0-for-4 during Friday's loss. Nico Hoerner will move over to shortstop to cover for him, giving Pedro Ramirez a start at second base.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Taking seat Sunday

Swanson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Astros. Nico Hoerner and Pedro Ramirez will serve as the Cubs' starters in the middle infield while Swanson retreats to the bench for the series finale. Swanson had started each of the Cubs' last six games, going 4-for-21 with one home run, one walk, two RBI and two additional runs during that stretch.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Extends hitting streak with homer

Swanson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 9-3 loss to the Brewers. Swanson clubbed his seventh home run of the season in the fifth inning, which extended his modest hitting streak to three games. Before this recent stretch, the veteran shortstop was batting just .133 in May, and he's still under the .200 mark for the year to go along with a subpar .669 OPS. Swanson will likely be allowed to play his way out of his early-season slump, but fantasy managers may want to consider some other options in shallow formats if his struggles persist for too long.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Day off Saturday

Swanson isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox. Swanson snapped his four-game hitless streak with a double in Friday's contest, and he'll now receive a day to reset after posting just a .369 OPS through 53 plate appearances since the start of May. Nico Hoerner will slide to shortstop in Swanson's absence, opening up second base for Matt Shaw.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Taking seat for series finale

Swanson (glute) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres. Swanson was lifted prior to the bottom of the second inning in Tuesday's 8-3 win after experiencing a left glute cramp. The Cubs haven't indicated that Swanson is dealing with anything more significant than the cramp, so he's presumably just getting some extra rest Wednesday as a matter of precaution. Chicago is off Thursday, so Swanson will get two full days to recover before likely returning to the lineup Friday versus the Diamondbacks.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Starts, completes comeback effort

Swanson went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a triple, a hit-by-pitch, four total RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 6-4 win over the Dodgers. Swanson started the Cubs' comeback effort with a two-run triple in the seventh inning. He added a two-run homer in the ninth to put his team ahead for the first time in the game, and Corbin Martin was able to make that lead stand. Swanson is 5-for-17 with three extra-base hits and nine RBI over his last five games. For the season, the shortstop is batting .209 with an .802 OPS, six homers, 21 RBI, 22 runs scored, a double, a triple and a steal over 26 contests.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Blasts fifth homer Monday

Swanson went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Monday's 5-1 win over the Phillies. Swanson took advantage of a sinker left over the middle by Aaron Nola, blasting it over the center-field wall to extend the Cubs' lead in the second inning. It marked the shortstop's fifth homer of the season, and he owns a respectable .733 OPS despite a .192 batting average through 22 games. A career .250 hitter, improvement in the batting average department would help boost Swanson's overall fantasy value.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Goes deep again Wednesday

Swanson went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, an additional run scored and two total RBI in Wednesday's 11-2 win over the Phillies. Swanson appears to be heating up, as he now has three home runs across his last four games. The shortstop's batting average is still sitting at just .200, but his recent surge suggests that figure will continue to climb. Swanson has also yet to sit out a game this season, and his consistent playing time should offer him plenty of opportunities to keep racking up counting stats while he's locked in at the plate.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Homers in loss

Swanson went 1-for-3 with a walk, a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 13-7 loss to the Phillies. Swanson was a bright spot for the Cubs in a tough loss, as he connected for his third home run of the season in the fourth inning. All of the shortstop's long balls have come in the last eight games, including one in each of his last two contests. Swanson is starting to get his bat going after a sluggish start to the year, and he could be back on track to reach the 20-homer plateau for the fifth time in the last six seasons.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Homers, scores three runs Sunday

Swanson went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two walks and three runs scored in Sunday's 7-6 win over the Pirates. Swanson has had a tough start to the 2026 season, as he entered Sunday's game with a .149 average and .515 OPS through the first 14 games. The shortstop got the scoring started for the Cubs in this one, taking Bubba Chandler deep to lead off the bottom of the third inning. He later walked and scored in the seventh and eighth innings. Swanson is slashing .163/.311/.306 with two home runs, seven RBI, 11 runs scored, one stolen base and an 11:17 BB:K across 61 trips to the plate.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Launches first home run

Swanson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 6-5 loss to the Guardians in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader. It's been a rough start to the year for Swanson, who snapped an 0-for-10 slump across his previous three appearances with the long ball Sunday, which was his first of the season. Overall, he's batting just .138 with a .498 OPS through eight games. The veteran shortstop has gotten off to slow starts in the past, and the Cubs should give him a pretty long leash despite his struggles so far due to his proven track record.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Collects first hits of season

Swanson went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in Monday's 7-2 win over the Angels. Swanson started the season going 0-for-8 with three walks across the first three games against Washington, but he got on the board with his first hits of the year Monday. The shortstop is traditionally a slow starter with a .670 career OPS in March and April, which is his lowest of any month. Even if he scuffles some, Swanson should maintain a regular role for the Cubs, and his MLB track record suggests that production will come.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Pops first spring home run

Swanson went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in Friday's Cactus League game against the Guardians. Swanson, who has appeared in only two Cactus League games so far, mustered his first long ball of the spring slate Friday. The veteran shortstop shouldn't need a ton of work to get ready for the regular season, and he'll look to build on the 24 home runs and 77 RBI he tallied across 159 regular-season games for the Cubs in 2025. Swanson did say earlier this month that he is willing to swap some power for more contact in 2026. He's batted below .245 in each of his three seasons in Chicago but hit .277 in 2022 with Atlanta, so there could be room for improvement in this category, though his homer total might decrease as a result.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Aims to swap power for more contact

Swanson is willing to swap some power for more contact in 2026, Bruce Levine of Marquee Sports Network reports. Swanson has clubbed at least 22 home runs in four of the past five seasons, but he also has a strikeout rate over 25 percent during that span and would like to cut that down. The 32-year-old's chase rate has been consistently above league average, but his in-zone contact rate has been well below average, as he ranked 129th out of 144 qualifiers in that metric in 2025. Swanson went 20-20 last season but still finished outside the top-12 in fantasy at a loaded shortstop position.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Launches 22nd home run

Swanson went 1-for-4 with a walk, a three-run home run and a stolen base in Friday's 11-5 win over the Nationals. Swanson now has four home runs in his last eight games and 22 for the season. That puts him five behind his career high of 27 long balls, which he recorded back in 2021 while playing for Atlanta. Swanson is also up to 70 RBI on the year, though he has some work to do to match his career best of 96 RBI. The Chicago shortstop has tacked on 12 stolen bases in 2025, giving him double figures in homers and steals for the fifth time in his career.

  • Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Posts 10th career multi-homer game

Swanson went 3-for-5 with two home runs, six RBI, a triple and an additional run scored in an 11-7 win over the Rockies on Friday. It was a banner evening for Swanson, who recorded his first multi-homer effort of the year, piled up a season-high six RBI and tied his season best in hits. The veteran shortstop fell one RBI shy of matching his career high, and the two-homer outing was the 10th of his career. Swanson has put together a strong run of late, slashing .275/.322/.550 with 11 extra-base hits, 13 RBI and two stolen bases over his last 87 trips to the plate (23 games).
