  • Marco Luciano SS | NYY

Giants' Marco Luciano: Begins rehab assignment in Arizona

Luciano (back) started a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Thursday, going 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI in his first game action since June 3.

Luciano looks to be nearing the finish line in his recovery from a lower-back strain, which has kept him out of action for the past two months. Before the injury surfaced, the Giants' top prospect was slashing .288/.360/.507 with eight home runs in 164 plate appearances at High-A Eugene.

  • Trea Turner SS | PHI

Dodgers' Trea Turner: Goes deep in victory

Turner went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Thursday in a 5-3 win over the Giants.

Turner's seventh-inning solo shot traveled an estimated 419 feet to pad the Dodgers' lead. It was the shortstop's third homer in his past six games and his 18th of the campaign. Turner has already tied his career high -- which he set last season -- with 77 RBI, and he could make a run at the career-best 28 homers that he slugged in 2021 as well.

  • Pirates' Tucupita Marcano: Shifts to leadoff spot

Marcano went 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored Thursday against the Brewers.

Marcano shifted to the leadoff spot and played second base Thursday to make his second consecutive start since being recalled Wednesday. He delivered an RBI single in the seventh inning and now has five hits across eight at-bats in the last two games. The Pirates appear intent on utilizing Marcano's defensive versatility to keep him in the lineup, and he's shown some promise at the plate by maintaining a .269/.321/.410 slash line across 87 plate appearances.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Productive in nightcap

Edman went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in a 7-2 win over the Cubs in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader.

Edman's been solid at the plate, but he hadn't recorded a three-hit game since June 14. He's picked up three steals, four RBI, eight runs scored and two doubles in his last 11 games, hitting .275 in that span. The versatile infielder is up to a .259/.324/.372 slash line with 22 stolen bases, seven home runs, 37 RBI, 69 runs scored, 18 doubles and three triples through 102 contests this season. He'll likely be back at second base more frequently since Paul DeJong has reclaimed a starting role at shortstop after getting recalled from Triple-A Memphis last Saturday. Nolan Gorman is also in the mix for starts at the keystone.

  • Jon Berti 3B | CHC

Marlins' Jon Berti: Beginning rehab assignment

Berti (groin) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Jacksonville this weekend, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Berti has been sidelined for nearly three weeks due to a left groin strain, but he resumed baseball activities in late July and will return to game action this weekend. Assuming he feels good after playing for the Triple-A club, he should be in consideration to rejoin the Marlins next week.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: On bench for matinee

Edman isn't starting the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Edman started Tuesday's series opener against the Cubs and went 1-for-2 with two runs and a walk. Nolan Gorman will take over at the keystone while Brendan Donovan enters the lineup at third base during Thursday's matinee.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Brewers' Willy Adames: Cashes in four

Adames went 2-for-4 with a double, four RBI and a run scored in an 8-7 loss to the Pirates on Wednesday.

Adames came up with two timely two-RBI hits to keep the Brewers in the back-and-forth contest. Adames now has 61 RBI on the season. The total marks a new career high despite him hitting only .225 and reaching base at a poor .292 clip.

  • Orlando Arcia SS | MIN

Braves' Orlando Arcia: Pops seventh homer

Arcia went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 3-1 loss to the Phillies.

The 28-year-old utility player gave Atlanta a 1-0 lead by taking Zack Wheeler deep in the fifth inning, but it was all the offense the home team could muster on the afternoon. Arcia has started five straight games at second base and homered in the last two, giving him seven long balls on the year in 178 plate appearances to go with a .247/.320/.411 slash line, and he'll continue to hold down the fort at the keystone until Ozzie Albies (foot) makes his return.

  • Pirates' Tucupita Marcano: Big night in return

Marcano went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored Wednesday against the Brewers.

Marcano was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday after Yoshi Tsutsugo was designated for assignment. Marcano got the start in left field while hitting eighth, though it's unclear how he'll get regular at-bats with Ben Gamel, Bryan Reynolds and Cal Mitchell currently the starting outfield and Kevin Newman locked in at second base. Marcano has been extremely productive in the minors this season, and he has also shown glimpses of promise in the majors by maintaining a .257/.304/.405 line across 82 plate appearances in Pittsburgh.

  • Diamondbacks' Geraldo Perdomo: Homers in loss

Perdomo went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 7-4 loss to Cleveland.

Perdomo's ninth-inning blast was too little too late but made the final score more respectable. It was his fourth homer of the season and second in the last six games. All in all, it was a good day for the organization's youth movement: in addition to Perdomo's long ball, Alek Thomas homered and Daulton Varsho collected a pair of hits and stole a base. Those three will be center pieces of next year's roster and could be joined by Corbin Carroll at some point in 2023.
