Barrero is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

Barrero had been scheduled to receive the day off Tuesday, but he was ultimately added to the lineup late as a replacement for Wil Myers (neck) and proceeded to 0-for-3 with a walk and a run in the Reds' 7-6 win. With Myers back in action for Wednesday's series finale, Barrero will now get a chance to rest.

Edman went 1-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Cardinals.

Edman took a changeup offering from Sean Manaea over the wall in center field for his fourth home run of the season and the third over his last six games. He would reach again on a fielder's choice in the eighth and later score in the inning. The 27-year-old has turned it up at the dish over the last week, slashing .353/.450/1.059 with three homers, seven RBI, six runs and a 3:0 BB:K. Even with his recent surge at the plate, Edman is still seeing himself bat at the bottom of the order against righties while he's near the top of the lineup against lefties.

McLain has a .284/.429/.567 slash line with five home runs, six steals and a 19:15 K:BB in 20 games with Triple-A Louisville.

McLain had a 1.049 OPS after his first 20 games at Double-A last season and he proceeded to hit .219 with 106 strikeouts over his final 83 games, so we don't want to overreact to this small sample. However, his 22.6 percent strikeout rate and 17.9 percent walk rate are very encouraging marks, as are his 31.9 percent hard-hit rate and 52.1 percent flyball rate. McLain has made 15 starts at shortstop and four starts at second base.

Rojas (hamstring) is scheduled to take live batting practice Wednesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

The bigger test for Rojas will be agility drills and running, but he's at least back to doing some amount of baseball activity a week after straining his hamstring. Mookie Betts will fill in at shortstop for Rojas on Tuesday against the Pirates in what marks his second straight start at that position.

Schmitt has a .326/.340/.391 slash line with zero home runs, zero steals and a 22:3 K:BB in 21 games with Triple-A Sacramento.

Sacramento suppresses offense more than any park in the Pacific Coast League, and while Schmitt hasn't blasted a home run yet, his 9.7 percent soft-hit rate and 5.9 percent infield-flyball rate suggest he is usually getting good wood on the ball. The 24-year-old infielder is known as much for his glove as his bat and has split time at shortstop (12 starts) and third base (eight starts). A 2023 debut could be in the cards if he ups his walks and either cuts his strikeouts and/or ups his power output.

Updating a previous report, Barrero will start at designated hitter and bat eighth in Tuesday's game against the Rangers, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Barrero was scheduled to get Tuesday off, but he'll end up starting after all due to Wil Myers (neck) being scratched from the lineup. Tyler Stephenson had been on track to serve as the Reds' designated hitter but will instead draw the start at first base while Myers is on the bench.

Arcia (wrist) said Tuesday that he's hopeful to return from the 10-day injured list when Atlanta begins its next homestand May 5, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Arcia noted that it's not his decision whether he returns for the homestand, though more clarity on his next steps could arrive when he's re-evaluated later Tuesday. Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution notes that Arcia recently transitioned out of a cast on his fractured left wrist and is now sporting a black splint, but the infielder still hasn't been cleared to do any baseball activities. Until Arcia is able to do some hitting and fielding work, Atlanta is unlikely to confirm whether the 28-year-old is in fact on pace to return for the upcoming homestand.

Williams is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Pirates.

He made three consecutive starts at shortstop last week after Miguel Rojas (hamstring) landed on the injured list, but Williams has since moved back to a utility role after Mookie Betts was reinstated from the paternity list Thursday and after Chris Taylor overcame a side injury. Williams will be on the bench for the third straight contest.

Arcia (wrist) was spotted Tuesday doing some jogging in the outfield at Truist Park, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Arcia looks like he's continuing to do conditioning work while he's on the shelf with a microfracture of his left wrist, but until the 28-year-old is participating in fielding drills and taking batting practice, his return from the 10-day injured list shouldn't be viewed as imminent. Toscano notes that Arcia was still sporting a splint on his left wrist, so the infielder looks as though he still may be several days away from resuming full baseball activities. Vaughn Grissom should continue to serve as Atlanta's everyday shortstop while Arcia is on the mend.

Marcano will start at second base and bat second in Tuesday's game against the Dodgers.

Marcano is making his third consecutive start at the keystone after he went 3-for-7 with a double in the final two contests of the Pirates' series with the Reds this past weekend. With Bryan Reynolds (personal) on the bereavement list and set to miss a second straight game Tuesday, Ji Hwan Bae has moved to the outfield, which has opened up second base for Marcano. Once Reynolds is reinstated, Marcano is a likely candidate to move back into a utility role and see his opportunities take a hit.
