  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

Braves' Chris Sale: Goes seven innings in loss

Sale (1-1) absorbed the loss Saturday in Miami, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks over seven innings. He notched seven strikeouts.

Sale was outdueled by youngster Max Meyer but still managed to go seven frames for the first time since May of last season. The five runs he permitted more than doubled his season total, and his three walks were more than he had on the year coming into the night. Sale's next outing is slated to come at home against the defending champion Rangers.

  • Justin Steele SP | CHC

Cubs' Justin Steele: Set for bullpen session

Steele (hamstring) will throw a 25-pitch bullpen session Saturday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Steele will get back on the bump for the first time since he suffered a Grade 1 left hamstring strain on Opening Day. The Cubs anticipate Steele missing the rest of April, but he seems to be tracking toward a return from the 15-day injured list in early May.

  • Cubs' Jameson Taillon: Will make season debut next week

Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Saturday that Taillon (back) will return from the 15-day injured list to make his next start in the majors, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Taillon covered 3.2 scoreless innings and threw 68 pitches in his final rehab start Friday with Triple-A Iowa. The Cubs haven't yet determined which day Taillon will pitch, but he could be activated from the IL as soon as Wednesday in Arizona.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Fine for next rehab start

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Saturday that Buehler (elbow/hand) is fine and will make his next rehab start Thursday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Buehler had to be removed from his last rehab start with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Friday after getting hit in the right hand by a comebacker. It will not keep him from taking his next turn, though, which will likely come with Triple-A Oklahoma City. It had been looking like Buehler's next rehab start would be his last before rejoining the Dodgers' rotation, but he might now be asked to make an additional appearance since his last one was abbreviated.

  • MacKenzie Gore SP | TEX

Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Fans 11 in win over Oakland

Gore (2-0) collected a win Saturday in Oakland, tossing five shutout innings on four hits and one walk while striking out 11.

The feeble Athletics lineup had no chance against Gore in this one. All four hits they tallied were singles, and they never advanced past second base while the left-hander was in the game. Gore's 11 strikeouts tied a career high, and he picked up an impressive 20 swinging strikes on 90 pitches. With a 2.81 ERA and 23:5 K:BB over 16 innings, we could be looking at the beginning of a post-hype breakout season from the 25-year-old southpaw.

  • Sean Manaea RP | NYM

Mets' Sean Manaea: Allows nine hits in loss

Manaea (1-1) took the loss to the Royals on Saturday. He was charged with eight runs (six earned) on nine hits and three walks, striking out four over 3.2 innings.

His Mets career got off to a great start (one earned run allowed in 11 innings), but Manaea came crashing back to reality Saturday. He walked in a run in the second inning and served up a homer to Salvador Perez in the fourth before getting the hook. While the left-hander carries a fair amount of risk from start to start, Manaea can still provide value as a fantasy streamer. Up next is a tough road assignment against the Dodgers.

  • Nick Lodolo SP | CIN

Reds' Nick Lodolo: Strikes out 10 in return

Lodolo (1-0) earned the win over the White Sox on Saturday, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out 10 over 5.2 scoreless innings.

Lodolo was completely dominant in his return from the injured list, racking up 16 swings and misses on 91 pitches (62 strikes). The lefty showed a great feel for his looping curveball and looked nothing like a pitcher that just missed nearly a full calendar year of major-league action. He suffered a second stress reaction in his left tibia late last season and reported that he still did not feel 100 percent entering spring training, so the health concerns aren't going anywhere, but he appears to be all systems go for the time being. Lodolo lines up for a home start against the Angels next weekend.

  • Nick Lodolo SP | CIN

Reds' Nick Lodolo: Activated from IL

The Reds reinstated Lodolo (calf) from the 15-day injured list Saturday.

A left calf injury has kept Lodolo on the injured list since the beginning of the year, but he will return to make his season debut Saturday against the White Sox. The 26-year-old southpaw made two starts during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville, surrendering five earned runs across 7.2 innings while striking out 10 batters and walking three. Carson Spiers was optioned to Louisville in a corresponding move.

  • Luis Severino SP | ATH

Mets' Luis Severino: Effectively wild in first win

Severino (1-1) picked up the win Friday, allowing one run on one hit and four walks over five innings in a 6-1 victory over the Royals. He struck out four.

The right-hander tossed 55 of 90 pitches for strikes, and aside from a solo shot by Salvador Perez in the second inning, Severino kept Kansas City hitters off balance and took advantage of his defense. Severino has yet to last more than five innings in any of his first three starts, but he's delivered a 3.00 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 17:6 K:BB through 15 innings. He'll try to give the Mets a bit more length in his next outing, which lines up as a home start next week against the Pirates.

  • Trevor Rogers SP | BAL

Marlins' Trevor Rogers: Comes up short Friday

Rogers (0-2) took the loss Friday as the Marlins were routed 8-1 by Atlanta, giving up two runs on eight hits and a walk over five-plus innings. He struck out five.

The 26-year-old got out-dueled by fellow southpaw Max Fried, and Rogers' line could have been a lot worse -- he exited the game with runners on first and second and nobody out in the sixth inning, but George Soriano worked out of the jam. Rogers tossed 56 of 80 pitches for strikes, and he'll take a 4.80 ERA and 14:8 K:BB through 15 innings into his next start, which is scheduled for next week at home against the Giants.
