Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Monday that Schmidt (elbow) is eyeing a return from the 60-day injured list in September, David Lennon of Newsday reports.

Schmidt, who is working his way back from the internal brace surgery he underwent July 11, 2025, resumed facing hitters shortly after the All-Star break and has built up to throwing 45 pitches in live sessions. Per Meredith Marakovits of YES Network, Schmidt will throw his next live BP on Tuesday, and he could head out on an extended rehab assignment soon thereafter. The Yankees will likely have Schmidt get stretched out as a starter while he's out on the farm, but he may represent more of an insurance policy for the rotation. The Yankees will have six high-quality starters once Carlos Rodon (elbow) returns from the injured list later this month, so barring an injury to another member of the rotation, Schmidt could be ticketed for a multi-inning relief role once he's activated.

The Blue Jays acquired Arrighetti (foot) from the Astros on Monday in exchange for outfielder Daulton Varsho and cash considerations.

Arrighetti is currently on the shelf while he recovers from right foot nerve irritation, though he threw in the bullpen Sunday and and could be ready for activation by mid-to-late August, per MLB.com. The righty logged a 1.34 ERA in his first eight starts this season but had stumbled with an 8.34 ERA in his last nine outings prior to landing on the injured list. Arrighetti has a career 24.6 percent strikeout rate at the big-league level, though that impressive mark has also come with an 11.5 percent walk rate.

The Orioles acquired Witherspoon, right-hander Anthony Eyanson, outfielder Enddy Azocar, catcher Carlos Narvaez and a player to be named later from the Red Sox on Monday in exchange for catchers Adley Rutschman, Jake Rogers and cash, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

A first-round draft pick in 2025, Witherspoon had been regarded as one of the top lower-level arms in Boston's farm system, even despite his uneven results during his first season of pro ball. The 21-year-old righty turned in a 4.78 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 78:34 K:BB while surrendering 10 home runs over 75.1 innings at High-A Greenville. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Witherspoon is regarded as a good athlete with a deep arsenal that includes multiple pitches with plus potential, making him an intriguing developmental prospect for the Orioles. He's expected to report to High-A Frederick to kick off his time in the Baltimore organization.

The Orioles acquired Eyanson, right-hander Kyson Witherspoon, outfielder Enddy Azocar, catcher Carlos Narvaez and a player to be named later from the Red Sox on Monday in exchange for catchers Adley Rutschman, Jake Rogers and cash, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Narvaez is the only big-league player headed back to Baltimore, while the trio of Eyanson, Witherspoon and Azocar were three of the top-rated prospects in the Boston farm system. Eyanson headed into 2026 will limited fanfare, but the 22-year-old righty has shot up prospect lists after displaying an uptick in velocity during his first season of professional ball and elite results to match it. Between 16 appearances (15 starts) at High-A Greenville and Double-A Portland spanning 68.1 innings, Eyanson has submitted a 1.32 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 26.5 K-BB%. He'll likely report to Double-A Chesapeake with his new organization, and with a strong finish to the campaign, he should set himself up for an early-2027 MLB debut.

Detmers has not been traded to the Cubs, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

A previous report indicating that a deal sending Detmers to the Cubs was done, but it turned out to be inaccurate. Detmers remains a prime trade candidate, but it's unclear whether a deal to the Cubs or any other team has momentum. The left-hander has posted a 4.03 ERA and 145:38 K:BB across 125 innings covering 22 outings for the Angels this season.

The Blue Jays acquired Stephan and Josh Smith from the Rangers on Monday in exchange for Adam Macko, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Stephan has made 19 starts and two relief appearances for Triple-A Round Rock in 2026, collecting a 5.44 ERA and 97:31 K:BB over 101 frames. The 24-year-old will likely join the rotation at Triple-A Buffalo.

The Orioles acquired Kreiling and right-handers Alex Hoppe and Brock Moore from the Mariners on Monday in exchange for outfielder Taylor Ward, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Kreiling, 24, has spent most of the season on the injured list at Single-A Inland Empire but was cleared to debut for the affiliate last week after completing a three-appearance rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. The right-hander has performed well since returning to action in July, logging a 1.69 ERA, 0.56 WHIP and 16:1 K:BB in 10.2 innings between the two minor-league stops. He'll most likely join the Orioles' Carolina League affiliate in Delmarva.

Rodon (elbow) is scheduled to throw a live batting practice session at Yankee Stadium on Monday, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.

Giancarlo Stanton (calf) will be among the Yankees players that will take swings against Rodon, who could be cleared to head out on a rehab assignment if his elbow responds well to Monday's workout. Rodon has been on the shelf since July 3 and is likely to require at least a couple of rehab starts or extended simulated games before he's deemed ready to return to the New York rotation.

Bassitt (back) struck out four and allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk Sunday in a rehab start with Triple-A Norfolk. He also hit three batters.

Making the second start of his rehab assignment with Norfolk, Bassitt wasn't especially sharp, but he was able to build up his workload as he works his way back from a late-June procedure to remove bone spurs from his back. The right-hander tossed 67 pitches (47 strikes) and averaged 91.1 mph with his sinker, just under a tick below his season-long average. From a volume standpoint, Bassitt looks like he could be ready to return from the 60-day injured list, though the Orioles may want to see him show improved efficiency in one more rehab appearance before adding him back to the big-league rotation.

The Blue Jays acquired Soriano from the Angels on Monday in exchange for infielder Arjun Nimmala, outfielder Eddie Micheletti and right-hander Angel Rivero, Mark Feinsand and Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com report.

After dealing away right-hander Kevin Gausman on Sunday, the 52-60 Blue Jays appeared to be firmly in the sellers camp heading into Monday's deadline. However, the team has replenished its rotation depth with the acquisition of Soriano, who may have carried added appeal for Toronto since he's under club control through 2028. Soriano permitted just one earned run in 37.2 innings while going 5-0 through his first six starts of the season with the Angels, but he's fallen back to earth with a 4.64 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 84:44 K:BB in 85.1 innings over his subsequent 16 outings. The 28-year-old righty could slot into the Toronto rotation as soon as Thursday's game versus the Cubs at Wrigley Field.
