  • Mariners' George Kirby: Hit hard in loss

Kirby (8-10) took the loss against the Brewers on Thursday, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts over 3.1 innings. Kirby surrendered all six runs in a nightmare first inning, when he allowed 12 hard-hit balls overall while generating just six whiffs on 84 pitches. It continued an inconsistent year for the 28-year-old, who has now allowed 11 earned runs over his past two starts after yielding just one earned run through his first two August outings. He owns a 4.18 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 117:33 K:BB across 140 innings this season and will aim to rebound in a home matchup with the Phillies next week.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Struggles in no-decision

Kirby did not factor into the decision in Friday's 10-7 extra-inning loss to the Astros, allowing five runs on eight hits and three walks with two strikeouts over 4.2 innings. The damage was done early, as Kirby surrendered a solo homer in the first before enduring a four-run second inning. He labored overall, issuing three walks for just the third time this season while generating only seven whiffs on 99 pitches. The 28-year-old has now posted a 4.39 ERA through five second-half outings, though 12 of the 13 runs he's allowed have come in two blow-up starts. He'll take a 3.89 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 114:31 K:BB across 136.2 innings this season into a road matchup with the Brewers next week.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Settles for no-decision

Kirby allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out two over five innings in a no-decision versus the Rays on Saturday. Kirby was steady, though he wasn't all that efficient, needing 99 pitches (63 strikes) to get through his five frames. He was again let down by his offense, getting just one run of support while he was on the mound. Kirby has allowed two runs or fewer in six of his last seven outings but has just three wins in that span. He's at a 3.68 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 112:28 K:BB across 132 innings over 22 starts this season. Kirby's next start is projected to be on the road in Houston.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Fires seven scoreless innings

Kirby did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing five hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings against the Twins. He struck out three. Kirby silenced the Twins offense across seven shutout innings, though a bullpen implosion kept him from being credited with the win. It was a much-needed bounce-back effort for the right-hander, who was tagged for seven runs in Monday's loss to the Rangers. Overall, the 28-year-old owns an 8-9 record with a 3.76 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 110:26 K:BB across 127 innings (21 starts) and is lined up to pitch next weekend against the Rays.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Tosses six shutout innings

Kirby (8-8) allowed three hits and a walk while striking out six over six shutout innings to earn the win over the Reds on Monday. Kirby kept his hot stretch going, racking up his sixth straight quality start with one of his best outings of the campaign. During that six-start span, he's given up just 12 runs (11 earned) over 38 innings. He now has a 3.57 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 104:25 K:BB through 116 innings over 19 starts this season. Kirby is lined up to make his next start on the road versus the Rangers.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Takes hard-luck loss

Kirby (7-8) took the loss Wednesday against the Marlins, allowing two runs on eight hits across six innings. He struck out seven. It was another strong outing from Kirby, who's now held opponents to two runs or fewer in each of his last three outings, though he ultimately came away with the loss as Seattle failed to generate any runs in a 3-0 defeat. Kirby's turned in five straight quality starts, allowing 11 earned runs across 32 innings during that span. The right-hander will head into the All-Star break with a 3.76 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 98:24 K:BB across 18 starts (110 innings) this year.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Back in win column Tuesday

Kirby (6-7) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits and two walks over six innings in a 3-2 victory over the Pirates. He struck out five. The right-hander produced his ninth quality start of the season on 91 pitches (65 strikes), but it took a Cole Young two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning to finally get Kirby back in the win column. He'd gone 0-5 over his prior six starts, stumbling to a 6.27 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 33:7 K:BB in 33 innings during the losing streak. With that monkey off his back, Kirby will look to build on Tuesday's performance in his next outing, which is set to come on the road this weekend in Cleveland.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Takes loss in quality start

Kirby (5-7) allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out five without walking a batter over six innings to take the loss versus the Orioles on Wednesday. Kirby gave up just two extra-base hits, but they were critical. Gunnar Henderson tagged him for a two-run home run in the third inning and Leody Taveras added an RBI triple in the sixth. This was Kirby's second quality start in a row, but he's allowed at least three runs in six straight outings, going 0-5 in that span. He's now at a 4.10 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 79:21 K:BB in 90 innings through 15 starts. Kirby will look to shake off the funk in his next start, which is tentatively projected to be on the road in Pittsburgh.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Takes fifth loss

Kirby (5-5) took the loss Wednesday against the Mets, allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits and a walk across four innings. He struck out five. Kirby was decent early, holding New York to one run through his first three frames, but he faded in the fourth, when he allowed four runs on four hits. The loss is Kirby's third in his last four starts -- he's struggled to a 7.29 ERA across 21 innings in that span. Overall, his ERA sits at 4.04 on the year with a 1.28 WHIP and 64:18 K:BB through 13 starts (78 innings). Kirby will look to get back on track in his next outing, tentatively scheduled to come next week in Baltimore.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Fades in sixth inning

Kirby allowed four runs on six hits and a walk while striking out four over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks on Friday. Kirby was pitching well until Arizona's bats got to him in the sixth inning. He's now allowed 15 runs (13 earned) across 17 innings over his last three starts after a stretch of six outings in which he allowed two runs or fewer. Overall, Kirby has a 3.77 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 59:17 K:BB through 74 innings over 12 starts this season. He'll look to right the ship in a home start versus the Mets next week.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Serviceable in fourth loss

Kirby (5-4) took the loss Saturday against the Royals, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out three. After giving up a season-worst six runs in his last start against the Padres, Kirby put together a solid bounce-back effort on the road Saturday. The Royals jumped on the right-hander for three runs in the first inning, but a throwing error by Cole Young kept a pair of earned runs off Kirby's ledger in what was the hurler's sixth quality start this year. Kirby will bring a steady 3.54 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 55:16 K:BB across 68.2 innings into his next scheduled outing against Arizona.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Fans seven in fifth win

Kirby (5-2) earned the win Monday, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks over five innings in a 3-1 win over Houston. He struck out seven. Kirby allowed some traffic but largely kept the Houston offense in check, generating 12 whiffs and tallying a season-high seven strikeouts en route to the victory. Monday marked the right-hander's shortest outing of the campaign, as he's a workhorse that consistently works into the sixth inning and beyond. Kirby has been a pillar of consistency, posting a 2.84 ERA and 1.16 WHIP with a 46:14 K:BB across 57 innings (nine starts). He'll look to stay in the win column in his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Sunday against San Diego.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Goes seven innings in no-decision

Kirby allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five over seven innings in a no-decision Tuesday versus Atlanta. Kirby took his second no-decision in a row. This was also his fifth quality start in eight outings, though the runs he allowed came in the fourth inning, just after the Mariners had taken the lead on a J.P. Crawford two-run home run. Kirby has been pretty strong and steady overall this season with a 2.94 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 39:12 K:BB through 52 innings. His next start is projected to be on the road in Houston.

  • Rangers' Ezequiel Duran: Remains productive in loss

Duran started at second base and went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI in Saturday's 7-3 loss to the Mariners. Duran notched a run-scoring double in the ninth inning, as the Rangers mounted a comeback that eventually lost steam. He might have made the start against Seattle's George Kirby because he has a better track record against the right-hander than the Rangers' primary second baseman, the lefty-hitting Josh Smith. The start may also be a sign that Smith's season-opening slump (.177 average, 20 games) has left his starting spot vulnerable. Duran, who has played multiple positions, is slashing .289/.347/.422 over 17 games played.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Battles for third win

Kirby (3-2) earned the win against the Rangers on Saturday, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts over 5.2 innings. Kirby opened with five scoreless frames despite laboring at times and departed an out shy of a quality start after allowing a run in the sixth. It marked the first time in five outings that the 28-year-old failed to complete six innings, and he's yielded three earned runs or fewer in four of those contests. Kirby has a 2.97 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 27:8 K:BB across 33.1 innings and is slated to face the Cardinals on the road next weekend.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Tosses eight innings, takes loss

Kirby (1-2) took the loss against the Rangers on Tuesday, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four across eight innings. He did not issue a walk. Kirby ended up being the only pitcher deployed by the Mariners during Tuesday's game, tossing 68 strikes in 90 pitches (75.6 percent) while inducing 12 groundouts. He kept the Rangers off the board for the majority of his start but gave up three runs in the fifth inning, including a two-run homer to Kyle Higashioka that was enough for Kirby to take the loss since his teammates failed to generate any more runs. Kirby has recorded a quality start in each of his first three appearances of the season and has a 3.60 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB across 20 innings. He'll look to get back in the win column in his next start, which is slated for next week at home against the Astros.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Serves up three-run homer in loss

Kirby (1-1) took the loss Wednesday against the Yankees, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out six. The right-hander gave up just one run through five frames, but Paul Goldschmidt's three-run homer in sixth inning left a big mark on Kirby's ledger. Kirby has now gone at least six innings in each of his first two starts of the year, but he's now been taken deep twice already. The right-hander will try to keep the ball in the yard the next time he takes the mound, which is set come in Texas versus the division-rival Rangers next week.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Takes no-decision in Game 5

Kirby didn't factor into the decision in Game 5 of the ALDS versus Detroit on Friday, allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out six batters over five-plus innings. He did not issue a walk. Kerry Carpenter managed two singles against Kirby, but the rest of Detroit's offense was unable to find any success against the 27-year-old righty through the first five innings. Kirby came back out to start the sixth but was immediately pulled after giving up a leadoff double to Javier Baez, who scored on a home run from Carpenter during the ensuing at-bat. Because the Mariners were able to prevail over the Tigers after a 15-inning marathon, Kirby will have the ability to make at least one more appearance in the postseason -- likely in Game 3 or 4 of the ALCS against Toronto.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Set to start Game 5

Kirby will start Game 5 of the ALDS on Friday against Detroit. Both Kirby and Luis Castillo would have been available to pitch on at least regular rest, but the Mariners will opt for Kirby in the elimination game. He threw five innings in Game 1 of the series, allowing two earned runs while striking out eight across five innings.

  • Mariners' George Kirby: Fans 10 in Friday's loss

Kirby (10-8) took the loss Friday, giving up two runs on three hits and one walk over five innings as the Mariners fell 3-2 to the Dodgers. He struck out 10. It's the second time in his last three starts that Kirby has fanned double-digit batters, but he didn't get enough run support in a potential World Series preview to extend his winning streak to three. The right-hander has been prone to the occasional meltdown in the second half of the season, getting tagged for seven earned runs twice in his last 12 outings, but he didn't allowed more than three runs in any of the other 10 starts, giving Kirby a 3.82 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 78:16 K:BB over his last 66 innings heading into the postseason.
