  • Angels' Walbert Urena: Inefficient in no-decision

Urena allowed one hit and five walks while striking out three over four scoreless innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Wednesday. Urena's inefficiency (52 strikes on 90 pitches) ultimately kept him from ending his winless stretch, which is now at three games. However, aside from a seven-run disaster versus the Athletics on June 26, he's largely pitched well despite some control problems. Urena is now at a 2.88 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 78:46 K:BB through 81.1 innings over 17 games (15 starts) during his rookie campaign.

  • Angels' Walbert Urena: Worst start of season

Urena (5-6) allowed seven runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five over 4.1 innings to take the loss versus the Athletics on Friday. Urena didn't allow a baserunner through four innings, but the Athletics' offense burst to life for seven runs in the fifth. What started well ended up being the 22-year-old's worst start in his young major-league career. Despite the stumble, he still has a 3.14 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 69:37 K:BB over 71.2 innings through 15 appearances (13 starts). Urena has had more good than bad moments this season, limiting opponents to two runs or fewer in nine of his 13 starts, but as a rookie with a lofty walk rate (4.7 BB/9), there's still some risk for fantasy managers who want to roster him.

  • Angels' Walbert Urena: Hurls five scoreless frames

Urena (5-5) earned the win over the Athletics on Saturday, allowing four hits and striking out six batters while issuing no walks over five scoreless innings. Urena got the A's to swing and miss 17 times and threw 58 of his 90 pitches for strikes. In addition, the right-hander didn't issue any walks for the first time this season, including his short relief appearances early in the campaign. Urena handed out multiple free passes in six consecutive outings coming into Saturday, so the improved control is notable as he looks to further develop during his first year in the majors. The 22-year-old has been a revelation so far for the Angels, holding a 2.41 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 64:35 K:BB over 67.1 innings spanning 14 appearances (12 starts). Urena has entrenched himself in the rotation and is lined up to face the Athletics again -- this time at home -- in his next start.

  • Angels' Walbert Urena: Goes seven frames for first time

Urena (4-5) took the loss against Arizona on Monday, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out three batters over seven innings. It was a bit of a mixed bag for Urena; he totaled just six whiffs and three punchouts while taking the loss, but he also completed seven frames for the first time as a big-leaguer and logged his sixth quality start. The right-hander got through those seven innings on an efficient 88 pitches, allowing his team's bullpen a breather one day after the Angels used five different relievers against Tampa Bay. Urena continues to dig his heels into a rotation role, as he's given up three or fewer earned runs in nine straight outings. Overall, the rookie has put together a strong 2.60 ERA along with a 1.35 WHIP and 58:35 K:BB over 62.1 innings spanning 13 appearances (11 starts).

  • Angels' Walbert Urena: Good enough for second win

Urena (2-4) allowed one run on five hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings to earn the win over the Rangers on Saturday. Urena has gone at least five innings in all five of his starts in May, allowing a total of five runs with a 23:12 K:BB across 27 innings. He had some shaky moments early in the season, but it looks like the 22-year-old right-hander is starting to settle in. He's at a 2.58 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 36:22 K:BB through 38.1 innings over nine games (seven starts). Urena will need to continue working on getting the walk rate in check, as it could come back to bite him as major-league hitters start to figure him out. His next start is projected to be on the road versus the Rays.

  • Angels' Walbert Urena: Tosses six scoreless frames

Urena allowed four hits and walked two batters while striking out four over six scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Athletics on Monday. Urena was excellent in the outing, holding the A's scoreless while tossing 92 pitches over six innings. However, he was outshone for most of the game by Athletics starter J.T. Ginn, who carried a no-hitter into the ninth before ultimately serving up a walk-off homer. Urena recorded just four strikeouts, but he induced 15 whiffs. The right-hander has put his name on the fantasy radar with a string of strong appearances -- over his past four starts, Urena has posted a 1.64 ERA despite a modest 17:9 K:BB across 22 innings.

  • Angels' Walbert Urena: Stuck with tough loss Tuesday

Urena (1-4) took the loss Tuesday as the Angels fell 3-2 to the Guardians, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out four. The rookie right-hander wasn't particularly efficient and got lifted after 91 pitches (50 strikes), but he kept the damage limited and the only extra-base against him was a solo shot by Angel Martinez in the third inning. Urena has worked at least five innings and given up two runs or fewer in three straight outings, and since joining the rotation April 19 he's delivered a 3.51 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 24:14 K:BB over 25.2 innings. He'll look to get back in the win column in his next start, which lines up to come at home early next week against the A's.

  • Angels' Walbert Urena: Sharp in first win

Urena (1-3) earned the win Wednesday over the White Sox, allowing a run on two hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out five. It was an impressive performance by Urena, who logged his second quality start and first major-league win. The rookie right-hander has held opponents to just two runs over 11 innings in his last two outings, though he's walked three batters in both of those games. Urena's ERA sits at a solid 3.22 through 22.1 innings this season with a 1.57 WHIP and 22:19 K:BB. He's currently lined up to face the Guardians on the road his next time out.

  • Angels' Walbert Urena: Hit by comebacker

Urena was removed from Friday's game against the Mets after getting hit on the leg by a comebacker, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports. A 102.6 mph line drive off the bat of Bo Bichette connected with Urena's right leg in the sixth inning, causing him to fall to the ground and remain down for a moment. He threw a few warmup pitches in front of trainers in an effort to stay in the game, but the Angels made the call to pull him. More information regarding his status could be available after the game, though the fact that he was able to throw immediately after the incident is an encouraging sign.

  • Angels' Walbert Urena: Drawing another start

Urena is slated to start Saturday's game against the Royals in Kansas City, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Summoned from Triple-A Salt Lake last weekend to make his first MLB start, Urena spun a gem for the Halos, striking out eight and allowing two runs on four hits and two walks across six innings in a losing effort against the Padres. He'll be awarded another turn through the rotation on the heels of that strong outing, but Urena's stay with the big club could come to an end as soon as Grayson Rodriguez (shoulder) is ready to return from the injured list, likely at some point in May.

  • Angels' Walbert Urena: Shows promise in second loss

Urena (0-2) took the loss Sunday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over six-plus innings against the Padres. He struck out eight. Urena turned in a solid performance in a losing effort, limiting hard contact and generating a game-high 13 whiffs en route to eight strikeouts. After making the Angels' Opening Day roster and appearing twice out of the bullpen, the right-hander was sent to Triple-A Salt Lake to work as a starter before being recalled Saturday. It remains to be seen whether he'll receive another start this rotation cycle, though Sunday's outing was a positive.

  • Angels' Reid Detmers: Start moved to Monday

Detmers is no longer scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Padres and will instead take the hill for Monday's game versus the Blue Jays in Anaheim, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Rather than waiting until the upcoming week to break in a new fifth starter, the Angels will have Walbert Urena enter the rotation for Sunday's series finale. Detmers tentatively lines up for two starts next week as a result, with his second turn set to come next Sunday in Kansas City.

  • Angels' Sam Aldegheri: Sent back to Triple-A

The Angels optioned Aldegheri to Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday. Aldegheri made his season debut Thursday against the Yankees and gave up one earned run on a solo home run in 1.2 innings. He'll now rejoin the rotation at Triple-A Salt Lake and be replaced on the big-league roster by Walbert Urena.
