Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said Hudson will likely move into a late-inning role, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Given the recent struggles of Jake Barrett and Enrique Burgos at the back end of the Arizona bullpen, the announcement makes sense. Hale said both Hudson and Randall Delgado could be used in high-leverage situations going forward. Hudson recorded 20 holds a season ago and has 17 in 2016, so he's probably the safer bet of the two to see save opportunities.

Jansen struck out two in a perfect ninth against the Giants on Wednesday for his 37th save.

In 54 games last year, Jansen recorded 36 saves; through his first 54 this year, he precisely duplicated that number, and now he's exceeded it. In fact, Jansen has actually been even better this year than last year, which is saying something. His WHIP is now down to an insanely low 0.69, the best mark of his career by a good margin.

Adleman got another start Wednesday and went five innings while allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits while striking out one and earning a no-decision.

The start was Adleman's second since May 19th, spending the majority of the interim with Triple-A Louisville. Adleman pounded the zone with 51 of 68 pitches for strikes, but was done in by the long ball, serving up three home runs including one to the Rangers' starting pitcher, Yu Darvish. The rough outing raised Adleman's major league ERA from 2.96 to 3.68 over six starts, not quite matching his 2.38 ERA over 10 starts in Triple-A. Adleman holds a 7.28 K:9 rate throughout the minors, so don't expect him to be fanning a ton of big league hitters going forward.

Rodney recorded his 25th save of the season Wednesday, loading the bases on a walk and a pair of singles before retiring the final batter.

Rodney entered the ninth with a 3-0 lead, so Royals third baseman Christian Colon represented the winning running when he stepped in to face Rodney with two outs and the bases loaded. Rodney escaped by inducing a line out to the shortstop, keeping his ERA at 2.17. Rodney has now converted eight straight save opportunities for the Marlins, although Wednesday was one of the shakiest.

Chapman allowed a hit and struck out the side to secure his 29th save of the season Wednesday against the Padres.

Since blowing the save and being tagged with his only loss of the year last Friday, Chapman has rebounded nicely by locking down two saves while striking out four in his last two appearances. Since joining the Cubs, he's 9-for-11 in save opportunities and has surrendered just two earned runs in 15 games with the team.

Whalen is expected to be placed on the DL on Thursday due to right shoulder fatigue, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

This will likely conclude Whalen's season. The 22-year-old posted a 6.57 ERA in 24.2 innings pitched for the Braves. Prior to being called up he compiled a 2.40 ERA in 120 innings pitched in the minors.

Gsellman will join the Mets rotation while Jon Niese is on the disabled list, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.

Gsellman pitched 3.1 innings with the Mets on Tuesday, the first MLB innings of his career. In said game, he allowed two hits and three walks, but didn't allow any runs. Unfortunately, his outings at Triple-A Las Vegas haven't gone as well. After nine starts at the Triple-A level, Gsellman has a 5.73 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 40:16 K:BB in 48.2 innings. Now that he's in the big club's rotation, his next start is expected to be Sunday against the Phillies.

Coleman's (shoulder) minor league rehab assignment has been moved to Triple-A, Eric Stephen of True Blue LA reports.

Coleman should be able to return by the end of the month, or at the latest, Sept. 1 when rosters expand. He has a 3.70 ERA in 41.1 innings with the Dodgers this year.

Gearrin surrendered two runs on three hits while retiring just one batter in Tuesday's loss to the Dodgers.

Gearrin has struggled since returning from the disabled list Aug. 18, surrendering five runs in just 1.2 innings. After posting a 2.16 ERA and 13 holds through his first 36 appearances, Gearrin fell off the map in the middle of the summer months before being placed on the disabled list with a shoulder injury. Even if he rights the ship, he likely still won't have value in leagues that count holds due to the strong play of Derek Law, Hunter Strickland and Sergio Romo, who have all solidified their roles as late-inning options for the Giants.

De Leon seems like a top candidate to start Saturday against the Cubs in place of Scott Kazmir (neck).

The stars seem aligned for De Leon's long-awaited major league debut, as Kazmir is on the DL and De Leon is coming off his most dominant performance yet with Triple-A Oklahoma City. De Leon took a no-hitter into the seventh inning Monday and finished with 10 strikeouts over seven scoreless innings, his second straight start with double-digit strikeouts and zero walks. He has posted a 2.86 ERA, .199 BAA and 98:20 K:BB in 78.2 innings with Oklahoma City this season. An official announcement regarding Saturday's starter may not come until later in the week.
