Suarez will get the start Tuesday against the Padres, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Suarez will be called up from Triple-A Sacramento for his second major-league start of the season. His last outing came April 11 against Arizona, when he took the loss after giving up four runs on four hits while striking out seven. Suarez will look for redemption against a banged-up San Diego lineup come Tuesday.

Smith will be activated off the 10-day disabled list Wednesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Smith has nearly completed his rehab assignment, pitching both Wednesday and Thursday at Triple-A Sacramento without any setbacks. He'll come off the DL on Wednesday and should fall into a setup role out of the bullpen.

Ortiz (hamstring) is expected to miss at least two turns through the Double-A Biloxi rotation, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

It was initially expected that Ortiz, who was placed on the disabled list Saturday, would miss just one start due to the tight hamstring, but it sounds like he'll miss more than the 7-day minimum with the injury. Since the hamstring issue isn't viewed as a major concern, the organization is likely just exercising caution by holding Ortiz out for two starts after he dealt with the same injury in 2017. Ortiz has been dominant through his first four outings with Biloxi this season, posting a 2.53 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 21.1 innings.

Stewart was promoted to the major leagues Sunday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Stewart will take the roster spot of Yasiel Puig (ankle), who's headed to the 10-day disabled list. The 26-year-old has been impressive at Triple-A Oklahoma City through four starts, accruing a 2.41 ERA and striking out 20 across 18.2 innings. With Rich Hill (finger) unable to make Monday's start against the Giants, Stewart is a prime candidate to get the nod in what would be his first big-league outing of the season.

Mayers allowed an unearned run on three hits and a walk over 1.2 innings in a loss to the Pirates on Saturday. He also recorded a strikeout.

Making his first big-league appearance since April 12, Mayers worked up to 41 pitches over his brief time on the mound, although he ultimately issued just one free pass. The 26-year-old right-hander was just recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Friday, where he's been impressive as a starter. Mayers figures to shuttle between the big-league club and the Redbirds on multiple occasions this season as the Cardinals' bullpen needs dictate.

Suter will transition to a bullpen role after Wade Miley was added to the starting rotation.

Suter put together a solid start Friday against the Cubs, allowing just two runs on five hits and one walk. However, the Brewers had a decision to make with Wade Miley and chose to add him to the starting rotation rather than allowing him to opt out and play elsewhere. As a result, Suter will head to the bullpen, where he can provide long relief when needed.

Adams was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse prior to Sunday's matchup against the Diamondbacks, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.

Adams will be sent down after a seven-day stint in the big leagues. He made two appearances out of the bullpen, giving up one hit, three walks and no runs across one inning. Adams will be replaced by Austin Voth.

Voth was promoted to the big-league roster Sunday, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.

Voth has excelled in four starts at Triple-A Syracuse, owning a 0.96 ERA and 0.71 WHIP across 18.2 innings. He figures to give the Nationals extra support out of the bullpen as he looks to make his first big-league appearance.

Barraclough struck out the side and hit a batter in a scoreless ninth inning Saturday to pick up his first save of the season in a 4-1 win over the Rockies.

Manager Don Mattingly said after the game that Brad Ziegler "was not feeling 100 percent," according to ESPN, but whether that means Ziegler is dealing with an illness or injury -- or Mattingly is just trying to ease him out of the closer role gently -- is still unclear. Given Barraclough's dominance in his first save attempt and overall success this season -- he now has a 2.31 ERA and 21:7 K:BB in 11.2 innings -- it seems likely that more ninth-inning duty lies ahead for the right-hander.

Pivetta (1-1) allowed four earned runs on six hits while walking three and striking out six across five innings to take the loss Saturday against the Braves.

While the box score indicates Pivetta was hit hard Saturday, that wasn't the case. He did surrender a solo home run to Nick Markakis, but the runs he allowed in the third inning came on two infield hits followed by a single and a sacrifice fly. While the three walks surrendered are a concern, he has shown improved control this season. This start wasn't a gem by any means and it's reasonable to say Pivetta didn't have his best stuff Saturday, but there's no reason for concern based on this start about his long-term results.
