  • Dakota Hudson SP | LAA

Cardinals' Dakota Hudson: Shuts down Reds for first win

Hudson (1-1) earned the win over the Reds on Saturday, allowing two hits and four walks over 6.2 scoreless innings. He struck out four.

The Reds are a mess, offensively, and Hudson made his layup in this one. His 4:4 K:BB doesn't look great, however, and 6.2 scoreless innings won't eliminate performance concerns with Hudson. He had a 7.71 ERA coming into Saturday's game and some troubling batted-ball data to go along with it. The right-hander is looking to re-establish himself after missing nearly all of last season following 2020 Tommy John surgery.

  • Adonis Medina RP | SEA

Mets' Adonis Medina: Called up by Mets

Medina was called up from Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

Medina made only a couple appearances with Syracuse after being acquired by the Mets earlier this month, but that was all the club needed to see before adding him to the big-league roster. He will work out of the bullpen and could cover multiple innings if needed.

  • Corbin Martin RP | CHC

Diamondbacks' Corbin Martin: Back in big leagues

Martin was recalled by the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

Martin was optioned Thursday but is eligible to return just two days later with Sean Poppen (shoulder) hitting the injured list. Martin seemingly has a future in the Diamondbacks' rotation but has been a reliever thus far this year, striking out nine and walking just two while allowing a pair of earned runs in six innings.

  • Daniel Duarte RP | NYM

Reds' Daniel Duarte: Transferred to 60-day IL

Duarte (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Saturday.

A timeline for Duarte's return from an elbow injury has not been revealed, but with him moving to the longer of the two injured lists, he will miss at least a couple months of action.

  • Tyler Matzek RP | NYY

Braves' Tyler Matzek: Picks up third hold

Matzek collected his third hold of the season Friday, walking one and striking out three over 1.1 scoreless innings in a win over the Marlins.

The 31-year-old southpaw has looked good to begin the campaign as he fills a setup spot in front of closer Kenley Jansen. Over five appearances and 5.1 innings, Matzek has a 1.69 ERA, 0.56 WHIP and 5:2 K:BB.

  • Drew Smith RP | WAS

Mets' Drew Smith: Collects fourth hold

Smith walked one and struck out one in one-third of an inning Friday to pick up his fourth hold of the season in an extra-inning win over the Diamondbacks.

With a runner on second and two outs in the sixth inning, Smith relieved David Peterson and issued a free pass to Matt Davidson before fanning Christian Walker. Smith has already tied his career high in holds, and he's been a valuable middle-relief arm so far for the 11-4 Mets with a 0.00 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 8:3 K:BB through seven appearances and seven innings.

  • Dylan Floro RP | ARI

Marlins' Dylan Floro: Rehab assignment to begin Saturday

Floro (shoulder) is expected to begin his rehab assignment at Low-A Jupiter on Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Floro joined the Hammerheads on Friday but won't actually start pitching until Saturday. His return is being watched closely in light of Anthony Bender blowing a save Wednesday and raising his ERA to 8.31 over 4.1 innings.

  • Kenley Jansen RP | DET

Braves' Kenley Jansen: Nails down fourth save

Jansen walked one and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his fourth save of the season in a 3-0 win over the Marlins.

The former Dodger had a shaky first appearance with Atlanta, but since then Jansen has looked like his usual lock-down self, reeling off five straight scoreless appearances with a 7:1 K:BB while converting all four of his save chances. The 34-year-old has topped 30 saves in seven straight full campaigns, and he seems well on his way to ringing up an eighth.

  • Mark Melancon RP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Mark Melancon: Handed second loss

Melancon (0-2) took the loss during a 6-5 defeat against the Mets on Friday, allowing an unearned run on two hits in one inning.

After Arizona tied the game in the bottom of the ninth, Melancon was brought in to keep the game tied and got the first two Mets out before surrendering two hits that put him in line for the loss. The 37-year-old has pitched better than his 0-2 record indicates as he's permitted just one earned run in six innings, though his two strikeouts are uninspiring and don' stand to rise considerably given Melancon's history.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mets' Edwin Diaz: Blows save but notches win

Diaz (1-0) got the win during Friday's 2-1 victory over the Diamondbacks, blowing the save by allowing one run on one hit with two strikeouts in the ninth inning.

Pitching for the second straight night and for the third time in four days, Diaz retired the first two batters in the ninth before serving up a game-tying home run to Daulton Varsho. New York rallied with a run in the top of the tenth to take the lead and put Diaz in line for his first victory of the season. Despite the slip up, Diaz possesses a 2.57 ERA with 12 strikeouts in seven innings and should be locked into the closer role.
