Josh Hader RP | HOU
Brewers' Josh Hader: Battling back spasms
Hader was unavailable for Tuesday's game against the Reds due to mid-back spasms, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
The All-Star lefty didn't enter for the ninth inning with the Brewers leading 6-3, and manager Craig Counsell revealed the injury following the contest. Hader hasn't pitched since April 27 and had the spasms surface Saturday, but he threw a successful bullpen session Tuesday and is expected to be available Wednesday or Thursday. Devin Williams secured the save in his place and could receive another save opportunity Wednesday should Hader be held out again.

Keegan Thompson RP | COL
Cubs' Keegan Thompson: Allows one run Tuesday
Thompson allowed one run on four hits across 3.2 innings of relief in Tuesday's loss to the White Sox. He didn't have any walks or strikeouts.
With Scott Effross making the spot start as Drew Smyly hit the bereavement list before the game, the Cubs needed some length from their bullpen, and Thompson delivered. The righty has turned into a useful long-relief option, as he's pitched at least three innings in each of his last five appearances. For the season, Thompson has an impressive 0.89 ERA across 20.1 innings.

Joe Mantiply RP | TOR
Diamondbacks' Joe Mantiply: Grabs another save
Mantiply didn't allow a baserunner and earned the save with a scoreless ninth inning during Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Marlins. He did not record a strikeout.
The 31-year-old picked up his second save of the season Tuesday since closer Mark Melancon (undisclosed) is on the COVID-19 injured list. Ian Kennedy has recorded two saves with Melancon sidelined, but Mantiply is also with the mix as Arizona's fill-in closer. Mantiply is unscored upon through 10 innings this season and has a 0.70 WHIP and 4:1 K:BB.

Edwin Diaz RP | LAD
Mets' Edwin Diaz: Notches fifth save
Diaz gave up a hit and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his fifth save of the season in the first game of a doubleheader against Atlanta.
The right-hander has converted four straight save chances since getting tagged for his first blown save of the year April 22. Diaz has mostly been lights out so far, posting a 1.64 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 19:5 K:BB through 11 innings.

Bryse Wilson RP | CHC
Pirates' Bryse Wilson: Set for bulk-relief role Wednesday
Wilson is expected to serve as a bulk reliever behind Dillon Peters in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Tigers, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Initially listed as the Pirates' scheduled starter for Tuesday's series opener, Wilson will have to wait a day to pitch after the game was postponed due to inclement weather. Though Pittsburgh lists Peters as the starter for the front end of the twin bill, he'll most likely be acting as an opener, as was the case the last time it was Wilson's turn to pitch April 27. While pitching out of the bullpen, Wilson delivered his best results of the season, as he kept Milwaukee off the board for four innings while striking out four and allowing only one baserunner.

Dillon Peters RP | PIT
Pirates' Dillon Peters: Opening again
Peters will start the first half of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Tigers, though he'll likely be merely an opener, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
Bryse Wilson was scheduled to start Tuesday before the game got postponed, so he's expected to follow Peters on Wednesday. Peters has yet to give up a run in 13.1 innings so far this season.

Robert Gsellman RP | WAS
Cubs' Robert Gsellman: Contract selected by Cubs
Gsellman's contract was selected by the Cubs on Tuesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Gsellman will offer the Cubs a multi-inning relief option. He posted a 3.77 ERA in 28.2 innings of relief for the Mets last season but struck out just 14.3 percent of opposing batters. Locke St. John was designated for assignment to clear a roster spot.
-
Scott Effross RP | DET
Cubs' Scott Effross: Set for spot start
Effross will make spot start Tuesday against the White Sox in place of Drew Smyly, who was placed on the bereavement list, Tim Stebbins of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
Effross has exclusively pitched out of the bullpen thus far in his major-league career, posting a 2.92 ERA and 30:2 K:BB in 24.2 innings of relief over the last two years. He's never recorded more than six outs in a big-league appearance and was almost exclusively a reliever in the minors, so Tuesday's game will likely be a true bullpen day.

Bryse Wilson RP | CHC
Pirates' Bryse Wilson: Pirates-Tigers postponed
Wilson and the Pirates won't play the Tigers on Tuesday after the game was postponed due to inclement weather in Detroit.
The two teams will reconvene for a straight doubleheader Wednesday. Expect Wilson to start one of the two games of the twin bill, with the Pirates likely keeping Jose Quintana on turn to start the other half of the doubleheader.

Raymond Kerr RP | ATL
Padres' Ray Kerr: Optioned to Triple-A
Kerr was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.
Kerr had been on the roster since April 22 but made just a single appearance. He'll return to El Paso to clear a roster spot for Mike Clevinger (knee).
