  • Tyler Matzek RP | NYY

Braves' Tyler Matzek: Sent to injured list

Matzek was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday due to a shoulder injury, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

It's unclear as to when the reliever suffered the injury, as he last pitched May 10 against Boston, tossing a scoreless frame. The severity of his injury remains unknown at this time, but he's set to undergo an MRI on Tuesday, per Toscano. Tucker Davidson will be recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move and is scheduled to start Tuesday's matchup.

  • Cubs' Keegan Thompson: Confirmed as Tuesday's starter

Thompson will start Tuesday's game against the Pirates, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Thompson made his first start of the season Wednesday against the Padres, allowing two runs on five hits and a pair of walks while fanning one over four innings. He also threw a season-high 61 pitches, so it will be interesting to see if the Cubs stretch him out past that number in this favorable matchup, as Thompson came up through the minors as a starting pitcher. The 27-year-old righty has a 1.67 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 22:10 K:BB in 27 innings this season.

  • Jose Castillo RP | NYM

Padres' Jose Castillo: Back with Triple-A club

Castillo (elbow) has allowed one hit and no walks while striking out two over 2.2 scoreless innings across three appearances with Triple-A El Paso since being activated from the 7-day injured list May 10.

Castillo opened the season on El Paso's injured list while working his way back from March 2021 Tommy John surgery, but he proved his health during a recent five-game rehab assignment at Single-A Lake Elsinore. The 26-year-old lefty could eventually earn a call-up to the San Diego bullpen now that he's healthy again.

  • Adonis Medina RP | SEA

Mets' Adonis Medina: Moves down to minors

Medina struck out three and worked around one hit and one walk over three scoreless innings in his most recent appearance at Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday after the Mets demoted him May 9.

New York plans to deploy Trevor Williams and Taijuan Walker as its starting pitchers in some order for Tuesday's doubleheader with the Cardinals, but Medina could be a candidate to join the big club as the 27th man for the twin bill. If called up from Syracuse, Medina would offer the Mets a multi-inning option out of the bullpen.

  • Giants' Mauricio Llovera: Returns to big leagues

Llovera was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

The Giants will add a fresh arm to the bullpen in Llovera, who hasn't appeared for San Francisco in just over 10 days. Through four appearances in 2022, he's allowed one run on three hits and struck out five over four innings of relief work.

  • Yunior Marte RP | CIN

Giants' Yunior Marte: Back to Triple-A

Marte was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Marte appeared in Sunday's series finale against the Cardinals but didn't fare well, as he surrendered four runs (two earned) on three hits and four walks over 1.2 innings. The right-hander owns a 7.71 ERA and 1.71 WHIP with a 7:6 K:BB across 9.1 frames so far this season in the big leagues.

  • Caleb Ferguson RP | CIN

Dodgers' Caleb Ferguson: Returns from injured list

Ferguson (elbow) was activated off the injured list Monday.

Ferguson is finally ready to go after making his way back from Tommy John surgery, a procedure he underwent back in September of 2020. He's ready to go after making six rehab appearances, though he struggled significantly in those outings, allowing eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits across 4.2 frames. Michael Grove was optioned to clear space on the roster.

  • Dillon Peters RP | PIT

Pirates' Dillon Peters: Gets starting nod Monday

Peters is listed as the Pirates' starting pitcher for Monday's game against the Cubs.

Peters is presumably serving as an opener or tandem starter in front of Bryse Wilson, who should step in for the lefty in the middle innings. Over his 10 appearances (three starts) this season, Peters hasn't recorded more than 10 outs, so the Pirates will likely pull him well before the Chicago lineup turns over a third time.

  • Padres' Nick Martinez: Moving to bullpen

Martinez will be replaced in the rotation by Blake Snell (groin) this week, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Martinez struggled in his last start, allowing five runs over four innings against the Cubs. That may have clinched his move out of the rotation in the wake of Snell's return Wednesday, especially since MacKenzie Gore has outpitched Martinez overall. Gore is also expected to to spend some time coming out of the bullpen, as San Diego has the enviable "problem" of having so much starting pitching depth that there isn't enough room for every talented arm in the rotation. Martinez will likely pitch in long relief but could move back into the rotation at some point in the campaign if necessitated by injuries.

  • Brent Suter RP | LAA

Brewers' Brent Suter: Reinstated from paternity list

Suter (personal) was reinstated from the paternity list Monday.

Suter missed the Brewers' weekend series against the Marlins following the birth of his child, but he'll rejoin the club prior to Monday's series opener in Milwaukee against Atlanta. Over five appearances since the start of May, the southpaw has posted a 1.80 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in five innings.
