Keegan Thompson RP | COL
Cubs' Keegan Thompson: Suffers blown save Tuesday
Thompson suffered a blown save after he pitched 2.2 innings, giving up two runs on one hit and two walks while striking out five in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Reds.
Thompson entered the game with one out in the bottom of the sixth inning, tasked with protecting a 1-0 lead. After the Cubs scored a run in the following half inning, the right-hander surrendered a two-run homer to Chuckie Robinson in the seventh frame, which tied the game at 2-2. The blown save was his first of the season and the runs allowed were his first given up since he returned from the 15-day injured list Sept. 21. Thompson now owns a 3.76 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 108 strikeouts over 115 innings in 29 appearances including 17 starts this year.

Javier Assad RP | CHC
Cubs' Javier Assad: Finishes 2022 strong
Assad tossed 5.1 scoreless innings but did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's loss to the Reds. He allowed four hits and a walk while striking out four.
Assad left with the Cubs up 1-0, but Chicago's bullpen allowed three runs in the 3-2 loss. Despite not getting the win, Assad looked sharp in his 2022 finale. The rookie ended his campaign with 10.1 scoreless innings over his last two starts, which brought his ERA down to a strong 3.11 across 37.2 total innings. Assad should factor into the team's rotation mix to begin 2023, and he'll be a fantasy factor if he keeps pitching like this.

Cole Waites RP | DET
Giants' Cole Waites: Rejoins big club
Waites was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Waites was called up for his first taste of the majors Sept. 12 and appeared in five games before he was sent back to Sacramento 10 days later. The 24-year-old allowed one earned run with a 3:4 K:BB across five innings during that stretch, and he's now back with the big-league club for the final two games of the season.

Ryan Helsley RP | BAL
Cardinals' Ryan Helsley: Leaves with apparent injury
Helsley was removed from Tuesday's game against the Pirates with an apparent right hand injury, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
Helsley retired the lone batter he faced after he entered for the eighth inning Tuesday, but he may have tweaked something while he fielded the ball. The specifics of the issue remain unclear, but the Cardinals could be illustrating caution with their playoff positioning already secured.

Reed Garrett RP | NYM
Nationals' Reed Garrett: Serving as 29th man
Garrett was called up to serve as the 29th man for Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mets, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.
Garrett has thrown 7.2 major-league innings this season, allowing eight runs (seven earned) while striking out four and walking seven. If he pitches in either game, it will likely be in a low-leverage role.

Shelby Miller RP | CHC
Giants' Shelby Miller: Tagged with loss Monday
Miller (0-1) allowed five runs on two hits and three walks while striking out one over 1.1 innings, taking the loss Monday versus the Padres.
Miller hadn't allowed a run over 5.2 innings in his first three appearances since his Sept. 22 call-up, but that came crashing down Monday. He got through the seventh inning unscathed, then allowed five of the first six batters to reach in the eighth. He left with the bases loaded, and Jarlin Garcia promptly gave up a two-run double and a three-run home run to tack on three more runs to Miller's line. The right-hander might get one more appearance in 2022, but it'll almost certainly be in a low-leverage spot.

Justin Lawrence RP | PIT
Rockies' Justin Lawrence: Notches first big-league save
Lawrence recorded a save against the Dodgers on Monday, allowing one hit in a scoreless ninth inning.
Usual closer Daniel Bard pitched two innings while recording a save Sunday, so he was given the day off while Lawrence was summoned in the ninth inning after Colorado had taken a one-run lead. The righty Lawrence allowed a leadoff single to Trea Turner but got the next three batters to fly out to notch his first career major-league save. Lawrence has struggled with a 5.70 ERA and 1.55 WHIP with the Rockies this season, and he's likely not in the plans as a future closer for Colorado.

Sean Hjelle RP | SF
Giants' Sean Hjelle: Fans eight in bulk-relief role
Hjelle did not factor in the decision against San Diego on Monday, pitching five scoreless innings during which he allowed four hits and one walk while striking out eight batters.
John Brebbia started for San Francisco but pitched only one inning. Hjelle ended up logging a starter's workload, throwing 76 pitches over five frames and holding the Padres without a run. It marked the second time this season the right-hander tossed five innings in relief, and his eight strikeouts Monday were a season high. Hjelle has pitched well over his past three appearances, giving up just three earned runs across 13 innings, but a pair of blowups prior to that means he'll likely finish his rookie campaign with an unappealing 5.76 ERA and 1.64 WHIP.

Josh Hader RP | HOU
Padres' Josh Hader: Notches 36th save
Hader registered a save against the Giants on Monday, striking out one batter over a scoreless two-thirds of an inning.
The Padres entered the ninth inning up 7-0, so it looked like Hader would get the night off. However, Tim Hill was very wild and gave up four runs while retiring just one batter, creating a save situation for Hader. The veteran closer settled things down with a strikeout of Austin Slater before hitting Joey Bart with a pitch, and he finished off the save by inducing a flyout. Hader appeared to have lost his way throughout much of August, but since the final day of that month he's allowed just one earned run across 12 appearances while racking up seven saves in eight chances and posting a 14:2 K:BB.

Giovanny Gallegos RP | LAD
Cardinals' Giovanny Gallegos: Takes loss Monday
Gallegos (3-6) took the loss Monday versus the Pirates. He was charged with one run on three walks and no hits while striking out one in one-third of an inning.
Gallegos got the last out of the eighth inning, but then walked the first three batters in the ninth in a tied game. JoJo Romero walked the next batter, and the run and the decision were left on Gallegos' line. That's not the way the 31-year-old right-hander would want to celebrate his signing of a two-year contract extension earlier Monday. The poor outing ended Gallegos' 7.1-inning scoreless streak. He now has a 3.05 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 73:18 K:BB across 59 innings while adding 14 saves and 12 holds this year.
