Brewers' Bennett Sousa: Recalled from Triple-A

Sousa was recalled Friday from Triple-A Nashville.

Sousa will join the Brewers' bullpen Friday night in San Francisco. He was acquired from the Reds last month in exchange for cash considerations and had racked up eight strikeouts across 4.2 innings of work with Nashville.

  • Jake Cousins RP | LAD

Brewers' Jake Cousins: Optioned to Triple-A

Cousins was optioned Friday to Triple-A Nashville.

Cousins logged three appearances during his 11-day stay in the Brewers' bullpen. Bennett Sousa is getting the call from Nashville ahead of Friday's series opener in San Francisco.

  • Phillies' Andrew Bellatti: Cleared for rehab assignment

Bellatti (triceps) will begin a rehab assignment Friday with Low-A Clearwater.

Bellatti got the go-ahead to return to live competition after completing a 25-pitch round of live batting practice earlier this week. Out since April 22 due to right triceps tendinitis, he should be an option again for the Phillies' bullpen by mid-May.

  • Ryan Borucki RP | SF

Cubs' Ryan Borucki: Outrighted to Triple-A

Borucki cleared waivers and was outrighted Friday to Triple-A Iowa, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Borucki can either accept the assignment to Triple-A or elect to become a free agent. He was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Tuesday after a short stint in the majors during which he did not make an appearance.

  • James Naile RP | STL

Cardinals' James Naile: Selected by Cards

The Cardinals selected Naile's contract from Triple-A Mempis on Friday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

With Jake Woodford (shoulder) landing on the 15-day injured list Friday, Naile will make his return to St. Louis. The 30-year-old reliever made seven appearances for the Cardinals last season, giving up five earned runs over nine innings. To make room for Naile on the 40-man roster, Wilking Rodriguez (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day IL.

  • Cardinals' Wilking Rodriguez: Moved to 60-day IL

Rodriguez (shoulder) was transferred Friday from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

This is merely a procedural move after Rodriguez underwent surgery earlier this week on his right shoulder. He'll be sidelined for the next 4-to-6 months.

  • Tommy Nance RP | TOR

Marlins' Tommy Nance: Throwing live batting practice

Nance (shoulder) will throw live batting practice Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

If that goes well, a rehab assignment shouldn't be far off. Nance is on the 60-day injured list and not eligible for activation until late May.

  • JT Chargois RP | TEX

Marlins' JT Chargois: Cleared for rehab assignment

Chargois (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Jupiter on Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Heraldreports.

Chargois will throw one inning in what will be his first game action since he suffered a right oblique strain April 10. It's not clear how many rehab outings he will need before being activated.

  • Braves' Daysbel Hernandez: In midst of rehab assignment

Hernandez (elbow) began a rehab assignment with High-A Rome on April 15 and has posted a 10.38 ERA, 2.31 WHIP and 3:5 K:BB in 4.1 innings over five appearances.

Hernandez remains on Triple-A Gwinnett's 7-day injured list, but now that he's rehabbing at a lower-level affiliate, the 26-year-old looks to be nearing the finish line in his recovery from his February 2022 Tommy John surgery. Given his poor results thus far, Hernandez may make a few more appearances for Rome before rejoining the Triple-A club.

  • Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Reinstated from IL

Iglesias (shoulder) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Friday.

Iglesias will join Atlanta ahead of their three-game series at home against the Orioles, returning to the big-league roster after opening the 2023 campaign on the 15-day IL with a right shoulder strain. He made three rehab appearances with Triple-A Gwinnett, allowing one run on two hits while striking out five over three frames. The 33-year-old was acquired by Atlanta from the Angels last August via trade and appeared in 28 games out of their bullpen, producing a stellar 0.34 ERA and 0.84 WHIP with 30 strikeouts over 26.1 innings in 2022. Iglesias will be Atlanta's closer now that he's healthy, though he could be eased into the role in the coming days. Left-hander A.J. Minter has struggled to a 7.47 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with two blown saves over nine save opportunities this year in Iglesias' place.
