The Marlins optioned Monteverde to Triple-A Jacksonville on Saturday.

Monteverde gave up four runs while pitching four innings out of the bullpen Friday. He'll now move back to the minors so the Marlins can add a fresh arm to their staff in the form of Wikelman Gonzalez.

Stanek struck out two in a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in Friday's 4-1 win over the Pirates.

Stanek secured his second save of the season in dominant fashion, fanning two of the three batters he faced while tossing seven of his 12 pitches for strikes. Riley O'Brien remains the Cardinals' primary closer with 34 saves, so Stanek's path to regular save chances would seem blocked. Friday's outing shows Stanek is capable of handling the ninth when O'Brien is unavailable.

Tidwell (0-1) allowed six runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over five innings to take the loss versus the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Tidwell hadn't given up multiple homers in an outing this season until this start, as all of Lars Nootbaar, Corbin Carroll and Tim Tawa tagged him for a long ball. Those big flies counted for all six runs on Tidwell's line. He's allowed 12 runs over his last 15 innings, but his scoreless start last weekend in Boston offered a glimpse of what he can do when he's on. Tidwell has a 4.54 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 31:13 K:BB over 37.2 innings across 13 games (five starts) this season. The Giants' depleted rotation likely means Tidwell is safe in a starting role for the rest of the year, and he's projected to make his next start at Pittsburgh.

Bowlan didn't allow a hit or a walk but hit one batsman and struck out two in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Friday's 5-3 win over the Angels.

Jhoan Duran last pitched Wednesday, his lone appearance of the week, so it's curious that he didn't get the closing assignment Friday. Duran's last save came Aug. 19 versus the Marlins. Bowlan got the job done Friday despite a little shakiness, earning his second save of the season to go with 11 holds. Bowlan's picked up both saves and six of his holds since the All-Star break, a span in which he's allowed a modest five runs over 18 innings. He's at a 2.77 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 60:14 K:BB across 48.2 innings this season, gaining trust in high-leverage spots along the way.

Scott struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his 20th save of the season in a 2-1 win over the Tigers.

The southpaw reliever had been stuck with a loss in his previous two appearances, but Scott bounced back with a dominant effort in which he fired eight of 13 pitches for strikes. He's converted four straight save chances since Edwin Diaz (neck) landed back on the IL, and with manager Dave Roberts having already announced that Diaz will initially be used in low-leverage situations once he returns, Scott's latest stint as the Dodgers' closer could extend well into September. On the season, Scott has produced a 2.45 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 67:12 K:BB through 55 innings.

Pagan struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his 18th save of the season in a 10-8 win over the Cubs.

The veteran righty handled the heart of Chicago's order on an efficient seven pitches (six strikes), including a three-pitch strikeout of Ian Happ. Pagan's last blown save came back on May 4, a game in which he suffered a hamstring strain that landed him on the IL for nearly two months, and since returning at the beginning of July he's put together a 1.96 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 23:3 K:BB over 18.1 innings while converting all 12 of his save opportunities.

Iglesias came away with the save in Friday's 6-4 win over the Rockies, allowing one hit in a scoreless ninth inning. He did not record a walk or strikeout.

Iglesias was brought out for the ninth inning to protect Atlanta's two-run lead. He allowed a leadoff single to Hunter Goodman but responded by getting TJ Rumfield to ground into a double play, with Iglesias successfully closing things out after getting Willi Castro to line out. Iglesias has logged a save in each of his last five outings and is up to 29 saves on the year, which is eighth-most in the majors. He has a 2.88 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 52:16 K:BB over 50 innings this season.

The Diamondbacks optioned Burgos to Triple-A Reno on Friday.

Burgos has pitched 1.2 shutout innings since coming up from the minors Monday, but he'll end up as the roster casualty necessary to make room for Kohl Drake, who was recalled from Reno to start Friday's game versus San Francisco. Burgos has now given up one run in 4.1 major-league innings this year and could still return to Arizona down the stretch to provide bullpen depth.

The Cubs placed Milner on outright waivers Friday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.

Feinsand previously reported that Milner was designated for assignment, but the 35-year-old southpaw has actually been placed on waivers, allowing another team to claim him. Milner is on the 15-day injured list after undergoing an appendectomy, but he could garner interest from a team seeking an extra left-hander for its bullpen. Milner has a 3.53 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, six holds and an 18:9 K:BB over 35.2 innings this season.

The Mets selected Devenski's contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.

Devenski will join his second big-league roster this season after appearing in three games for Pittsburgh from late April to early May. In five outings with Syracuse, the 35-year-old posted a 1.23 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 11:3 K:BB over 7.1 innings. The Mets transferred Jorge Polanco (ankle) to the 60-day IL to make room on the 40-man roster for Devenski and optioned Xzavion Curry to Triple-A to open a spot in the bullpen for the veteran right-hander.
