  • Phillies' Jonathan Bowlan: Bullpen session set for Wednesday

Bowlan (groin) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session with Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday, per MLB.com. Bowlan is recovering from a right groin strain, which forced him to the 15-day injured list last week. The right-hander, who holds a solid 3.86 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 8:1 K:BB across seven innings this year, is first eligible to come off the IL ahead of the April 28 series opener versus San Francisco and could be ready to return by then.

  • Phillies' Jonathan Bowlan: Out with groin strain

The Phillies placed Bowlan on the 15-day injured list Monday due to a right groin strain. Right-hander Seth Johnson was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to join the bullpen as a replacement for Bowlan, who presumably sustained the injury during his appearance in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Diamondbacks. Bowlan had been working in middle relief for Philadelphia and posted a 3.86 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 8:1 K:BB across seven innings over seven appearances on the season.

  • Royals' Jonathan Bowlan: Opening Wednesday's contest

Bowlan will serve as the Royals' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game against the Guardians, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. The Royals are seemingly going to rely on their bullpen to get through Wednesday's contest, and they'll start by sending out Bowlan for the first handful of outs. The 28-year-old owns a 3.57 ERA and 1.13 WHIP through 35.1 innings on the season and has five appearances of at least two innings, so there's a chance he remains in Wednesday's contest past the first frame before getting the hook.

  • Royals' Jonathan Bowlan: Bumped up from Triple-A

The Royals recalled Bowlan from Triple-A Omaha on Sunday. The right-hander will provide Kansas City with a fresh arm in the bullpen, but he's unlikely to be entrusted with a high-leverage role. The 27-year-old was tagged for three home runs: a two-run homer and a solo homer to Justin Turner and a solo shot to Danny Jansen. Although Marsh will miss at least one more start, it wouldn't be surprising if the Royals look to somebody other than Bowlan to fill the fifth spot in the rotation after his awful showing Monday.
