Bailey isn't in the Giants' lineup Thursday against the Dodgers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Bailey will get a breather Thursday after going 5-for-25 with three RBI and three runs scored since returning from the injured list Sept. 13. Blake Sabol will fill in behind the plate and bat eighth.

The Cardinals placed Contreras on the 10-day injured list Thursday with tendinitis in his left wrist, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Contreras' move to the injured list will officially put an end to his season, opening the door for Andrew Knizner and Ivan Herrera to log a few extra starts before the end of the year. Contreras will finish the season with a .264/.358/.467 slash line alongside 20 homers and 67 RBI across 495 plate appearances.

Murphy isn't in Atlanta's lineup Thursday against the Nationals.

Atlanta seems to have fallen into a pattern of alternating between Murphy and Travis d'Arnaud behind the plate, and Thursday will mark d'Arnaud's turn to start. Murphy is slashing .135/.286/.138 across 35 plate appearances since Sept. 1.

Contreras, who is out of the lineup Thursday against the Brewers, has been sent for an MRI on his injured left wrist, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Contreras has been bothered by wrist discomfort for a while and felt "acute pain on a swing" during Wednesday's loss to the Brewers, per Jones. This could all potentially lead to an early shutdown for the 31-year-old catcher, who has put up an impressive .309/.402/.557 batting line with 10 homers and 31 RBI in 46 games since the All-Star break. Andrew Knizner and Ivan Herrera are the fill-in options behind the plate for St. Louis.

Contreras (wrist) is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Brewers.

Contreras had to be lifted from Wednesday's loss to Milwaukee with left wrist soreness, so it's no surprise he's sitting out Thursday's afternoon tilt. He's considered day-to-day for the time being. Andrew Knizner will do the catching for Miles Mikolas on Thursday.

Moreno went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Wednesday's 7-1 win over San Francisco.

Moreno, who has multiple hits in three of the last five games -- all Arizona wins -- is batting .364 for the month of September. During the five-game winning streak, all against rivals in the wild-card hunt, the catcher has reached base safely 13 times in 22 plate appearances.

Contreras was removed from Wednesday's game against the Brewers due to left wrist discomfort.

Contreras' wrist had been bothering him heading into Wednesday's game and ultimately caused him to make an early exit in the sixth inning. It wouldn't be surprising if the Cardinals held Contreras out for a day or two so he can properly recover.

Smith is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Tigers.

This appears to be a routine day of rest for Smith, who started behind the plate in the first two games of the Dodgers' three-game set versus Detroit. Austin Barnes will catch and bat ninth in Wednesday's series finale.

Rodriguez is out of the lineup Wednesday versus the Cubs.

Jason Delay will start behind the plate and bat ninth as the Pirates take on ace left-hander Justin Steele. The switch-hitting Rodriguez has gone 7-for-47 (.149) with zero extra-base hits this year against southpaws.

St. Louis recalled Herrera from Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.

Herrera could see a couple of starts at catcher as the Cardinals play out the string on a highly disappointing 2023 season, though he'll have to contend with both Willson Contreras and Andrew Knizner. Herrera, 23, has gone 8-for-23 (.348) with an .814 OPS in eight games this year at the big-league level.
