Campusano (abdomen) will start at catcher and bat ninth Friday against the Royals.
Campusano was a late scratch from the lineup ahead of Sunday's first-half finale due to abdominal soreness, but he now appears to be feeling better after getting a chance to recover during the break. He's gone 6-for-18 with five walks, a homer and four runs scored since returning from a fractured toe July 4.

Padres' Luis Campusano: Scratched Sunday
Campusano was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays due to abdominal soreness, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
The 28-year-old was penciled in to start behind the plate Sunday but was instead replaced by Rodolfo Duran due to the injury. Campusano will now have five full days to recover before the Padres start the second half of the season Friday in Kansas City.

Campusano went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and a second run scored in Wednesday's 10-4 win over the Diamondbacks.
Campusano has gone 5-for-11 over five games since he returned from a fractured toe, but his homer Wednesday was his first extra-base hit in that span. The catcher is now batting .317 with a 1.022 OPS, four homers, 11 RBI, 12 runs scored and seven doubles across 23 contests. With Freddy Fermin (head) landing on the injured list Friday, Campusano will return to the active roster to replenish San Diego's catcher depth. The 27-year-old backstop has been on the shelf since May 7 with a fractured toe, but he was cleared to begin playing in rehab games Tuesday and subsequently went 2-for-6 with two walks, a homer and an additional RBI. He and Rodolfo Duran will likely split starts behind the dish until Fermin is healthy.

Padres' Luis Campusano: In midst of rehab stint
Campusano (foot) began a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday and has gone 2-for-6 with a home run, two RBI and a 2:2 BB:K through two games.
Prior to beginning the rehab assignment, Campusano hadn't logged game action since he fouled a ball off his left foot and suffered a fractured toe May 5. He's worked behind the plate in each of his contests with El Paso, but San Diego may want him to get in a few more outings before activating him given the length of his absence. With that said, Freddy Fermin is being evaluated for a concussion after taking a foul tip off his mask against the Dodgers on Thursday, which could create more urgency for Campusano to rejoin the big-league roster.

Campusano (toe) will embark on a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso later this week, Annie Heilbrunn of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Campusano is ready to take the next step in his recovery from a left toe fracture that landed him on the injured list in early May. Rodolfo Duran has served as the Padres' backup catcher behind Freddy Fermin, but the former would likely be optioned to Triple-A once Campusano is ready to return from the 10-day IL. Barring any setbacks, Campusano could be back with the big club in early-to-mid July, perhaps prior to the All-Star break.

Campusano has now been out over a month after fracturing a toe on his left foot in early May. The backstop has been catching pitches and swinging pain-free since late May, but San Diego hasn't yet sent him out on a rehab assignment. Fellow backstop Freddy Fermin exited Saturday's contest against Baltimore after being hit by a warmup pitch near the back of the head, so the only healthy catcher on San Diego's 26-man roster at the moment is Rodolfo Duran.
