  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Sitting Friday

Campusano isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Blue Jays. Campusano will retreat to the bench Friday after going 4-for-8 with a homer and two runs scored during San Diego's last series against Arizona. Rodolfo Duran will fill in behind the plate and bat ninth.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Sparks rally with homer

Campusano went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and a second run scored in Wednesday's 10-4 win over the Diamondbacks. Campusano has gone 5-for-11 over five games since he returned from a fractured toe, but his homer Wednesday was his first extra-base hit in that span. The catcher is now batting .317 with a 1.022 OPS, four homers, 11 RBI, 12 runs scored and seven doubles across 23 contests. He looks to be the Padres' primary backstop at this time, serving in the starting role over Rodolfo Duran while Freddy Fermin (head) is out.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Exiting starting lineup

Campusano is not in the lineup for Monday's contest versus the Diamondbacks. Campusano returned from the injured list Friday and started at catcher each of the previous two days. He'll get a day off for Monday's series opener, with Rodolfo Duran filling in behind the dish.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Activated from IL

The Padres reinstated Campusano (toe) from the injured list Friday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. With Freddy Fermin (head) landing on the injured list Friday, Campusano will return to the active roster to replenish San Diego's catcher depth. The 27-year-old backstop has been on the shelf since May 7 with a fractured toe, but he was cleared to begin playing in rehab games Tuesday and subsequently went 2-for-6 with two walks, a homer and an additional RBI. He and Rodolfo Duran will likely split starts behind the dish until Fermin is healthy.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Ready for rehab assignment

Campusano (toe) will embark on a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso later this week, Annie Heilbrunn of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Campusano is ready to take the next step in his recovery from a left toe fracture that landed him on the injured list in early May. Rodolfo Duran has served as the Padres' backup catcher behind Freddy Fermin, but the former would likely be optioned to Triple-A once Campusano is ready to return from the 10-day IL. Barring any setbacks, Campusano could be back with the big club in early-to-mid July, perhaps prior to the All-Star break.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Sitting again Monday

Campusano is not in the Padres' starting lineup against the Giants on Monday. Campusano was seeing more playing time toward the tail end of April, but he will take a seat for a second consecutive game while Freddy Fermin serves behind home plate and bats eighth. Campusano is slashing .300/.352/.620 with three home runs and 10 RBI across 54 plate appearances this season.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Tallies two extra-base hits

Campusano went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and an additional RBI in Sunday's loss to the Diamondbacks. Campusano drew the start behind the plate to wrap up the weekend in Mexico City, doubling and homering Sunday after slugging two doubles and a homer in his previous start Wednesday against the Rockies. After going hitless in 10 regular-season games at the big-league level in 2025, the 27-year-old has been on fire to begin 2026, slashing .350/.395/.750 with three homers, nine RBI and eight runs through 14 games. Freddy Fermin is the lead catcher and is more well regarded on the defensive side, but Campusano's continued success should earn him opportunities in the lineup.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Secures contract for '26

Campusano signed a one-year, $900,000 contract with the Padres on Friday. Campusano went 0-for-21 with six walks and 11 strikeouts in the majors during the 2025 regular season, but he continued to show promise in the minors, finishing with a .334/.438/.586 slash line over 466 plate appearances at Triple-A El Paso. The 27-year-old owns a .666 OPS through 178 games in his big-league career but will have a chance to win a spot on San Diego's Opening Day roster this spring.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Sent back to minors

The Padres optioned Campusano to Triple-A El Paso on Monday. Campusano had been playing sparingly as an occasional designated hitter against left-handed pitching. He'll cede his spot on the 26-man active roster to outfielder Bryce Johnson, who was called up from El Paso.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Sent to El Paso

The Padres optioned Campusano to Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday. Since the beginning of August, Campusano has slashed .163/.268/.224 with three RBI across 56 plate appearances. He'll now head back to the minors in order to get back on track, officially moving Elias Diaz into the No. 2 catcher spot behind Kyle Higashioka. Brandon Lockridge was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Homers, reaches four times

Campusano went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored while also drawing a walk in Saturday's win over the Rockies. Campusano drove home San Diego's second run of the game on a groundout in the top of the second and then came around to score himself in the fourth after recording a two-out single. The catcher would later top off his night with a solo homer in the eighth, giving him his eighth long ball of the season and his first in the month of August. Campusano reached four times in the contest, and he's now posted multiple hits in five of his last 10 starts. Over that stretch he's batting .323 (11-for-34) with two homers, six RBI and five runs scored.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Goes yard Wednesday

Campusano went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and two total runs scored in Wednesday's 8-1 win over the Dodgers. Campusano opened the scoring with an RBI single in the second inning and sparked another rally with his solo shot in the fourth. The catcher has seen limited playing time since returning from a thumb injury in early July, going 7-for-23 (.304) over eight games since July 6. He's at a .241/.284/.390 slash line with seven homers, 37 RBI, 29 runs scored, 13 doubles and no stolen bases across 74 contests this season.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Light playing time since return

Campusano is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners. Since being activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, Campusano has started in just one of the Friars' ensuing five games. He appears to have slid behind Kyle Higashioka on the depth chart at catcher, though both backstops will be out of the lineup Wednesday while No. 3 option Brett Sullivan gets the nod behind the dish.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Idle Tuesday

Campusano isn't in the Padres' lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mariners. Tuesday will mark the third time Campusano has missed a start behind the plate since being activated from the injured list Friday. Kyle Higashioka, who has been on a hot streak recently, will once again start at catcher and bat ninth.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Officially activated

The Padres reinstated Campusano (thumb) from the 10-day injured list Friday. A bruised thumb has kept Campusano on the IL since June 22, though he's managed to go 2-for-15 with four RBI in four rehab games at Single-A. He'll take a seat Friday while Kyle Higashioka catches for Randy Vasquez, but Campusano is slated to return behind the plate Sunday.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Starts rehab assignment

Campusano (thumb) went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his first rehab game with Single-A Lake Elsinore on Monday. Campusano has missed just over a week of action with a thumb injury, so he shouldn't need too many rehab at-bats before being activated. Kyle Higashioka is coming off an eight-homer June, so it's possible Campusano -- who has just a .588 OPS since May 1 -- will play second fiddle at catcher for the Padres upon his activation.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Hitting injured list

Campusano (thumb) was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday but isn't expected to miss more than the minimum amount of time, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports Campusano was scratched ahead of Friday's 9-5 win over the Brewers and held out of Saturday's 6-4 win with left thumb soreness before the Padres placed him on the IL. Brett Sullivan was called up from Triple-A El Paso take Campusano's place on the active roster, but Kyle Higashioka should get most of the work behind the plate while Campusano is out.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Scratched due to left thumb injury

Campusano (thumb) has been scratched from Friday's lineup against the Brewers, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. Campusano was initially slated to start behind home plate and bat eighth, but manager Mike Shildt said the catcher was scratched due to "soreness and bruising" in his left thumb, and it's unclear whether a stint on the IL is needed. Kyle Higashioka will instead start at catcher and bat ninth against Brewers right-hander Colin Rea.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Sitting against lefty again

Campusano is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies. The Padres seem to have opted for a de facto platoon at catcher of late, even though both Campusano and Kyle Higashioka are right-handed hitters. Higashioka will stick in the lineup Monday for the fourth time in the Padres' last five matchups with lefties, while Campusano will take a seat. Campusano should still see the bulk of the playing time behind the dish as the Padres' preferred option against righties.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Out of lineup again Saturday

Campusano is not in the lineup for Saturday's contest versus the Mets. He will give way to Kyle Higashioka at catcher for the second day in a row and the third time over the Padres' last four contests. Campusano has just a .541 OPS since the beginning of May.
