Kevin Newman 3B | LAA
Pirates' Kevin Newman: Exits with apparent injury
Newman was removed from Wednesday's win over the Reds due to an apparent injury, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
Newman went into the stands in an attempt to catch a foul ball in the bottom of the ninth inning and appeared to be shaken up afterward. He was immediately replaced defensively, although the nature and severity of his injury aren't yet clear. The 29-year-old should tentatively be considered day-to-day ahead of Thursday's series opener against the Mets.

Nick Maton DH | CHW
Phillies' Nick Maton: Getting regular at-bats
Maton will start in right field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Marlins.
Maton will stick in the lineup for the fourth game in a row, with each of those matchups coming against right-handed pitching. The lefty-hitting Maton appears to have captured the strong side of a platoon in right field with the righty-hitting Matt Vierling, but both players will lose out on work whenever Nick Castellanos (oblique) returns from the injured list. Maton's uptick in playing time comes after he mashed a home run in all but one of his last four starts.

Longoria has gone 2-for-9 with four strikeouts over the last three games and will head to the bench for the third time in the last five matchups. David Villar is taking over at the hot corner and batting fifth.

The 29-year-old infielder has collected a hit in three straight games, and while he isn't playing every day, he still has a tidy .286/.301/.371 slash line over his last 20 contests with a homer, four RBI, 11 runs and Tuesday's steal.

Despite missing some time recently with a knee injury, the 32-year-old has picked up right where he left off with a .361/.425/.750 slash line and four home runs in nine September games.

Marlins' Jordan Groshans: Hitless in debut
Groshans went 0-for-3 in his major-league debut Tuesday as the Phillies beat the Marlins, 2-1.
Groshans batted eighth and played third base in his first big-league game, flying out twice and grounding out once. Miami acquired the former top prospect in a deal that sent Zach Pop and Anthony Bass to Toronto before the trade deadline. Since joining Triple-A Jacksonville in August, Groshans has posted a .301/.399/.416 slash line with two homers and a 19:19 BB:K. He'll likely serve in a utility role down the stretch for the Marlins.
