  • Zach McKinstry 3B | DET

Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Hits bench versus southpaw

McKinstry is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.

McKinstry will join fellow left-handed hitter Akil Baddoo on the bench for the series finale while southpaw Logan Allen takes the mound for Cleveland. With McKinstry out of the lineup, Andy Ibanez will draw the starting nod at second base.

  • Curtis Mead 3B | WAS

Rays' Curtis Mead: Making most of limited chances

Mead went 1-for-4 with two walks, two RBI, two runs scored and a double in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Angels.

Mead stepped into the lineup with lefty Patrick Sandoval on the mound, while Brandon Lowe was out of the lineup. Of Mead's seven starts since being promoted, four have come against southpaws. Though his playing time has been limited, he has at least one hit in each of his last four starts and has scored five runs in that span. Mead has shown the potential to be a productive big leaguer, but for now, he'll need to wait for more consistent playing time.

  • Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU

Rays' Isaac Paredes: Plays big part in rout

Paredes went 3-for-6 with a home run, three total runs and four total RBI in the nightcap of a doubleheader against the Angels on Saturday.

Paredes went hitless over four at-bats in a Game 1 loss, but he made up for it with a huge performance in Game 2. He knocked a run-scoring single in the fifth inning and followed that with a three-run blast in the sixth. This was the sixth time this season Paredes has driven in at least four runs in a contest, and he leads Tampa Bay with 76 RBI while tying for first with 24 long balls.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Homers, tallies three hits

Devers went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 8-1 win over the Yankees.

Devers singled in each of his first two at-bats before crushing a solo homer in the top of the ninth, which served as the final blow to New York on the afternoon. It was the third baseman's second consecutive game with three hits, and he's now homered in two of his last three contests, racking up five RBI over that stretch to go along with four runs scored.

  • Royals' Maikel Garcia: Dealing with rib inflammation

Garcia's recent absences have been due to costochondritis, an inflammation near his ribs, though the issue isn't believed to be serious, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.

Garcia missed a pair of games last weekend with a vaguely defined upper-body injury, and he's been absent for the first two games of this weekend's series at Wrigley Field for the same reason. The rookie infielder is feeling better and was reportedly available off the bench Saturday, per Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star, but he didn't wind up getting into the game in a 6-4 loss.

  • Royals' Maikel Garcia: Sidelined Saturday

Garcia (upper body) will not start Saturday's game against the Cubs.

Garcia missed two games last weekend with an upper-body issue, and he left Friday's series opener with a similar problem. The Royals have yet to announce an official diagnosis, but the team has every reason to be cautious down the stretch given its 40-84 record. Matt Duffy will fill in at the hot corner Saturday.

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Reaches 20-homer mark

Henderson went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run, an additional RBI and an additional run scored in Friday's 9-4 win over the Athletics.

Henderson's second-inning blast gave the Orioles enough to win the game, and he added an RBI single in the fourth. The 22-year-old had gone 10 contests without a homer, and he's now at 20 long balls on the year. He's maintained a middling .242 batting average, but it comes with a solid .789 OPS, 59 RBI, 65 runs scored, six stolen bases, 17 doubles and five triples over 111 games this season.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Angels' Anthony Rendon: Transferred to 60-day IL

Rendon was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.

Angels manager Phil Nevin said in late July Rendon would be shut down from baseball activities for at least two weeks after it was discovered he had a deep bone bruise in his left shin. Now that he is on the 60-day IL, the soonest he could return is Sept. 9. Mike Moustakas and Eduardo Escobar will continue to share time at third base in Rendon's place.

  • Royals' Maikel Garcia: Exits with upper body issue

Garcia was removed from Friday's game against the Cubs due to upper body discomfort.

Garcia dealt with an upper-body issue last weekend and missed two games. He was 0-for-2 in Friday's matinee tilt at Wrigley Field before Matt Duffy entered to replace him at third base in the bottom of the fourth inning. Garcia should be considered day-to-day until the Royals' medical staff has a better idea what the rookie is dealing with.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Back in lineup Friday

Chapman (finger) is back in the lineup Friday versus the Reds.

Chapman will start at third base and bat fifth after missing a handful of games due to inflammation in his right middle finger. He's sporting a .796 OPS with 15 home runs and 49 RBI through 116 games (485 plate appearances) this season for Toronto.
