  • Eguy Rosario 3B | SD

Padres' Eguy Rosario: Moves past sports hernia

Rosario (sports hernia) went 5-for-21 with two home runs, two walks, one stolen base, four RBI and four runs in five games for Double-A San Antonio after being activated from the 60-day injured list Sept. 9.

After a rough start to the season at Triple-A El Paso, Rosario was assigned to the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on May 19. He had been playing regularly in the ACL for about two weeks before being shut down when he required surgery in June to address a sports hernia. Rosario was cleared to begin a rehab assignment at High-A Fort Wayne on Aug. 19 and then linked up with San Antonio for the tail end of the Texas League season.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

Brewers' Jose Quintana: Eyeing start Sunday

Quintana (calf) played catch without issue Tuesday and is slated to do some running Wednesday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

He'll likely need to throw a bullpen session within the next couple days, too, but if all goes well Quintana will start Sunday's game in St. Louis. The veteran left-hander had to depart his last outing with a mild left calf strain, but he has a good chance to avoid missing any starts.

  • Andre Pallante SP | STL

Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Takes 15th loss

Pallante (6-15) took the loss Wednesday against Cincinnati, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out three.

It's the eighth loss for Pallante in his last nine starts -- he's struggled to a 7.12 ERA in that span. Overall, the right-hander sports a 5.29 ERA with a 1.44 WHIP and 107 strikeouts through 30 starts (160 innings) this season. Pallante will look for better results his next time out, tentatively scheduled for next week in San Francisco, in what could be his final start of 2025.

  • Jake Fraley RF | TB

Braves' Jake Fraley: Season over after 60-day IL move

Atlanta transferred Fraley (oblique) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list Wednesday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Carson Ragsdale, who was claimed off waivers. It also officially ends Fraley's season after he had landed on the 10-day IL over the weekend with an oblique strain. The veteran outfielder has one more year of arbitration eligibility but could be non-tendered by Atlanta this offseason.

  • Brady Singer SP | CIN

Reds' Brady Singer: Up to 14 wins

Singer (14-10) earned the win Wednesday over the Cardinals, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out six.

Singer gave up a solo shot to Alec Burleson in the first inning but limited the damage from there, allowing just an unearned run in the sixth en route to a 6-2 Reds' victory. The 29-year-old Singer has been impressive down the stretch, posting a 2.28 ERA in nine starts since the beginning of August. Overall, his ERA sits at 3.86 with a 1.22 WHIP and 155:59 K:BB across 30 starts (161 innings) this year. Singer is tentatively lined up to face the Pirates at home his next time out.

  • Braves' Carson Ragsdale: Claimed off waivers by Atlanta

Atlanta claimed Ragsdale off waivers from the Orioles on Wednesday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Ragsdale had an inauspicious major-league debut with the Orioles over the weekend, allowing eight runs over three innings. He found himself jettisoned from Baltimore's 40-man roster after that, but the righty has landed on his feet with Atlanta. Ragsdale will report to Triple-A Gwinnett.

  • Johan Oviedo SP | BOS

    Pirates' Johan Oviedo: Another no-decision

Oviedo didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Cubs, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out three.

The Cubs got to Oviedo early Wednesday, scoring four runs on four hits in the first inning, including a pair of homers. However, the right-hander managed to settle in and blank Chicago over his final four frames, allowing just one additional hit. The four runs mark the most given up by Oviedo through seven starts this season. His ERA sits at 3.52 with a 1.24 WHIP and 32:17 K:BB across 30.2 innings.

  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Cubs' Matthew Boyd: Stumbles vs. Pittsburgh

Boyd allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks across three innings in a no-decision Wednesday against the Pirates. He struck out five.

Boyd got off to a rocky start Wednesday, allowing a three-run homer to Joey Bart in the opening inning before walking in a fourth run in the second. It's the shortest outing of the year for Boyd, who's struggled a bit of late with a 6.54 ERA in his last six starts (31.2 innings). Overall, the left-hander is 13-8 with a 3.20 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 151:41 K:BB through 30 starts (174.1 innings) this season. Boyd will look to get back on track his next time out, tentatively scheduled for next week at home against the Mets. If Chicago's current rotation setup holds, it'll likely be his last start of the regular season.

  • Mark Vientos 1B | NYM

Mets' Mark Vientos: Exiting lineup Wednesday

Vientos is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Vientos has been one of the Mets' top hitters since the All-Star break, but he's cooled down a bit over the past couple weeks. Over his last 10 games, Vientos has gone just 5-for-33 (.152 average) with 11 strikeouts, so manager Carlos Mendoza will give the slugger the night off to get a mental reset. Starling Marte will replace Vientos as the Mets' designated hitter.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Good to go after HBP

Alvarez (triceps) will start at catcher and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Alvarez was lifted for a pinch runner in the eighth inning of Tuesday's 8-3 win after he was plunked by a Bradgley Rodriguez 100-mph fastball during his fourth and final plate appearance. Though Alvarez -- who has been playing through a broken pinkie finger on his left hand and a torn UCL in his right thumb -- has now been hit on the left arm by a pitch three times in the last three weeks, he'll be able to fight through any lingering soreness and step back in behind the dish Wednesday.
