  • Jake Fraley RF | TB

Reds' Jake Fraley: Remaining out of lineup

Fraley (calf) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Cardinals.

With no MRI results reported yet on Fraley's calf contusion, he'll remain out of the lineup as Cincinnati opens up a series against St. Louis. Santiago Espinal will again start at designated hitter and bat sixth.

  • Peyton Burdick RF | CIN

Reds' Peyton Burdick: Departs 40-man roster

The Reds designated Burdick for assignment Friday.

Burdick was claimed off waivers by Cincinnati on April 24 but was never called up to the big-league roster. He slashed .180/.279/.327 across 172 plate appearances with Triple-A Louisville and will likely remain in the Reds' organization if he clears waivers. Austin Wynns will take Burdick's spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Austin Wynns C | TEX

    Reds' Austin Wynns: Rejoining Cincinnati

The Reds selected Wynns' contract from Triple-A Louisville on Friday.

The 33-year-old will rejoin the Reds with starting catcher Tyler Stephenson being placed on the paternity list. Wynns is slashing .250/.309/.410 with 16 RBI this season in Louisville.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Placed on paternity list

Stephenson was placed on the paternity list Friday.

Stephenson was scratched from Thursday's game and then stepped away from the team to be present for the birth of his child. By rule, he can miss up to two additional games.

  • Masyn Winn SS | STL

Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Getting day off

Winn is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Reds, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Winn will step out of the starting nine for the first time since June 18, giving way to Brandon Crawford at shortstop Friday. Since the start of June, Winn is batting 25-for-97 (.258) with two homers and 16 runs.

  • Devin Williams RP | NYM

Brewers' Devin Williams: Another bullpen coming

Williams (back) threw 20 pitches during a bullpen session Wednesday and is scheduled for another 20-pitch session over the weekend, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Williams utilized his full arsenal during Wednesday's session and is on track to throw off a mound again this weekend. Additionally, Williams is scheduled to progress to live batting practice July 9. He's on track to be back with the Brewers after the All-Star break.

  • Aaron Schunk 3B | ATL

Rockies' Aaron Schunk: Contract selected by Colorado

The Rockies selected Schunk's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.

Schunk posted an .811 OPS in his first taste of the Triple-A level in 2023 and has followed up with a .291/.339/.469 slash line through 69 contests this year. That production has come in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, so those numbers can't be taken at face value. Schunk will be making his big-league debut when he gets into a game, and he should see some playing time between second and third base while up with the Rockies, though those opportunities could be limited with both Brendan Rodgers and Ryan McMahon currently healthy.

  • Riley Pint RP | COL

Rockies' Riley Pint: Promoted from Triple-A

Colorado recalled Pint from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

Pint will rejoin the Rockies after being optioned down to Albuquerque back in March. The 26-year-old righty will provide bullpen depth in place of Jake Bird (groin), who landed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday. Pint holds a 3.18 ERA and 1.53 WHIP across 17 innings with Colorado's Triple-A affiliate this season.

  • Drew Smith RP | WAS

Mets' Drew Smith: Tommy John surgery likely

Smith has been diagnosed with a significant UCL tear in his right elbow and is likely to undergo Tommy John surgery, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Smith is waiting on a second opinion before anything is decided, but it appears the writing is on the wall. It's a blow to the Mets and also poor timing for Smith, who is set to become a free agent this offseason. Given that it would be his second Tommy John surgery, Smith could be sidelined until 2026.

  • Nick Fortes C | TB

Marlins' Nick Fortes: Out of Friday's lineup

Fortes is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Phillies.

Fortes will cede catching duties to Ali Sanchez as the Marlins take on southpaw Cristopher Sanchez. Fortes has struggled to get his bat going this season, registering a slash line of .160/.192/.227. He has just three hits in his last 21 at bats.
