  • Giants' Mike Yastrzemski: Out versus left-hander

Yastrzemski is not in the lineup for Friday's game in Cincinnati, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

The Reds are sending southpaw Andrew Abbott to the hill, so Yastrzemski will begin this one on the bench. Jerar Encarnacion is in right field in what will be his Giants debut.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Rodriguez: Season debut next week likely

Rodriguez (shoulder) has joined the Diamondbacks in Pittsburgh and appears on track to make his season debut next week in Cleveland, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Rodriguez had been slated to throw a four-inning, 65-pitch simulated game Wednesday and it appears he came out of that with no concerns. The left-hander could make his season and Diamondbacks debut as soon as Monday, although the club might choose to keep Zac Gallen on turn that day and give Rodriguez the ball Tuesday. If Rodriguez starts either of those days, he would be in line for a two-start week.

  • Pirates' Isiah Kiner-Falefa: Continuing rehab assignment

Kiner-Falefa (knee) will report to Double-A Altoona on Friday to begin a rehab assignment, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

The 29-year-old made two rehab appearances last weekend before being acquired by the Pirates from the Blue Jays, and he'll continue the assignment with his new organization. Kiner-Falefa has been sidelined about a month by a left knee sprain, so he shouldn't require a lengthy stay in the minors and could join Pittsburgh early next week.

  • Noelvi Marte RF | CIN

Reds' Noelvi Marte: Not in Friday's lineup

Marte is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants.

It's the second straight game on the bench for Marte, who has a .177/.231/.281 slash line and 30.8 percent strikeout rate in 104 plate appearances since returning from his 80-game PED suspension in late June. Santiago Espinal will receive another start at third base Friday and could continue to cut into Marte's playing time after finishing July with a 1.184 OPS in 16 games.

  • Jake Fraley RF | TB

Reds' Jake Fraley: Sitting versus lefty

Fraley is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Giants.

Fraley has a .917 OPS with two homers and two steals in 10 games since the All-Star break, but he'll sit Friday as southpaw Blake Snell takes the mound for San Francisco. Stuart Fairchild will start in right field and bat eighth in the series opener.

  • Eric Yang C | CIN

Reds' Eric Yang: Goes back to minors

The Reds optioned Yang to Triple-A Louisville on Friday.

Yang served as Tyler Stephenson's backup while Luke Maile (back) and Austin Wynns (shoulder) were sidelined, but Maile is back now to reclaim that gig. The 26-year-old Yang struck out in his lone plate appearance.

  • Luke Maile C | KC

Reds' Luke Maile: Activated from injured list

The Reds activated Maile (back) from the 10-day injured list Friday.

Maile has been out since early July with a herniated disc in his back but is ready to go after playing a couple rehab games with Triple-A Louisville. He'll regain his role as the backup catcher behind starter Tyler Stephenson.

  • Ji-Hwan Bae 2B | MIL

Pirates' Ji Hwan Bae: Still sitting Friday

Bae (knee) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Bae departed Monday's contest against the Astros due to left knee discomfort, and he'll sit for a third straight game coming off Thursday's team off day. Michael Taylor will receive another start in center field for the Buccos.

  • Cristian Pache LF | NYM

Marlins' Cristian Pache: Claimed by Miami

The Marlins claimed Pache off waivers from the Orioles on Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Pache is known for his superb center-field defense but has put up just a .570 OPS through 119 plate appearances this season between the Phillies and Orioles. He could get some run in center field in Miami for a rebuilding Marlins club.

  • Logan Porter C | LAA

Mets' Logan Porter: Outrighted to Triple-A

Porter cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse by the Mets on Friday.

Porter joined New York on a major-league contract in mid-July and was designated for assignment Tuesday without appearing in a game. The 29-year-old has also spent time in the Giants and Royals organizations this season, and he has a combined .858 OPS in 57 games at the Triple-A level.
