  • Rockies' Charlie Blackmon: Getting maintenance day

    Blackmon is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.

    The Rockies and Orioles are wrapping up their series with a day game after a night game, and Blackmon will get some rest after he started in both of the previous two contests. Nolan Jones will replace Blackmon as the Rockies' designated hitter.

    The Mets will run out a right-handed-heavy lineup to counter White Sox southpaw Garrett Crochet in the series finale. McNeil will be joined on the bench by fellow left-handed hitters Jesse Winker and Brandon Nimmo.

    The Mets will shield the lefty-hitting Winker from White Sox southpaw Garrett Crochet in the series finale. Tyrone Taylor will replace Winker as the Mets' starting left fielder.

    Torrens will start at catcher and bat eighth in Sunday's game against the White Sox.

    With top backstop Francisco Alvarez receiving a routine maintenance day, Torrens will step in behind the dish. Since being acquired from the Yankees on May 31, Torrens has appeared in 35 games (28 starts) for the Mets, logging a .250/.311/.406 slash line with three home runs, 15 RBI and 13 runs.

    Padres' Tom Cosgrove: Moves up from Triple-A

    The Padres recalled Cosgrove from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.

    Cosgrove will likely operate as a low-leverage reliever for the Padres as he returns to the big leagues for the third time this season. Over his previous two stints with the big club, Cosgrove gave up 19 earned runs on 23 hits and six walks over 14.2 innings.

    Padres' Nick Ahmed: Links up with San Diego

    Ahmed signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Sunday.

    The 34-year-old elected free agency last week after being designated for assignment by the Giants, and he'll continue his 2024 tour of the NL West with San Diego. Ahmed has played in 69 games between the Dodgers and Giants this season and has a .232/.271/.300 slash line with two home runs and two steals.

  • Padres' Stephen Kolek: Shifts to 60-day IL

    The Padres transferred Kolek (forearm) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.

    The right-hander landed on the shelf in late July due to forearm tendinitis, and he now won't be eligible to be reinstated until after the regular season. Kolek recently resumed playing catch but has yet to throw off a mound, so he still has significant work to do in his rehab program.

  • Padres' Brandon Lockridge: Added to 40-man roster

    The Padres selected Lockridge to the 40-man roster and optioned him to Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.

    The right-hander was acquired from the Yankees ahead of the summer trade deadline and is now positioned to make his MLB debut during the final month of the campaign. Lockridge has an .811 OPS with nine home runs in 25 games for El Paso since being acquired by the Padres.
