Rosario is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest in St. Louis.

Rosario had started in the designated-hitter spot in eight of the last nine games, but he will get a day off Wednesday. Noelvi Marte will serve as the Reds' DH in Rosario's stead.

Beeks earned the save in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Marlins, allowing one hit in one-third of an inning.

After Aroldis Chapman pitched in Tuesday's contest, David Bednar was initially called upon to close out a 3-0 lead Wednesday. However, the Pirates would turn to Beeks with two outs in the ninth to face the left-handed Kyle Stowers after Bednar gave up a run on a pair of hits. Beeks would allow an infield hit to Stowers that loaded the bases before inducing a flyout from Xavier Edwards to close out a two-run victory. It's the 10th save of the year for the 31-year-old Beeks, his first since joining the Pirates from the Rockies at the trade deadline. Beeks has pitched well for Pittsburgh, posting a 2.30 ERA across 15.2 innings, though he's still likely behind Chapman, Bednar and Dennis Santana in the Pirates' bullpen hierarchy.

Merrifield (foot) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

He'll miss out on a fifth straight start while he gets more time off to recover from a left foot fracture. Cavan Biggio will cover the keystone Wednesday, but Atlanta is hopeful that Merrifield will be ready to reclaim an everyday role in the infield coming out of Thursday's team off day.

Stephenson is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in St. Louis.

Stephenson had started eight of the last nine contests, including the series opener Tuesday, but he'll begin Wednesday's contest on the bench. Luke Maile will handle catching duties for the Reds.

Herrera is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Herrera had a slight edge over Pedro Pages in playing time in the first week after Willson Contreras (finger) got hurt and landed on the injured list. However, the playing time has recently been tilting in favor of Pages, who has now started six of the last eight contests. With Thursday's series finale being an afternoon game, Herrera will likely be back in the lineup that day.

Nootbaar is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds.

Nootbaar had started every game since Aug. 20, but Wednesday marks just the second time the Cardinals have faced a lefty over that stretch. He'll begin the game on the bench as a result, with fellow left-handed hitter Alec Burleson also exiting the starting nine.

Burleson is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Reds.

Southpaw Brandon Williamson is on the hill for the Reds, so the left-handed-hitting Burleson will begin the contest on the bench. Luken Baker will occupy the designated hitter slot for St. Louis.

Falter (8-7) earned the win Wednesday over Miami, allowing two hits and three walks over 7.1 scoreless innings. He struck out five.

Falter was excellent, holding the Marlins to just a pair of singles. The scoreless effort marked Falter's first quality start since June 18 -- he hadn't gone more than 5.2 innings in any of his previous 10 outings, posting a 5.79 ERA in that span. The left-hander's ERA now sits at 4.20 on the season with a 1.27 WHIP and 89:39 K:BB across 128.2 innings. Falter's currently lined up for a road matchup with the Cardinals in his next outing.

The Cardinals optioned Roycroft to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.

Roycroft struck out a pair while retiring all five batters he faced in Tuesday's loss to the Reds, but he'll continue to bounce back and forth between St. Louis and Memphis, as he's done often this season. Wednesday's starter, Lance Lynn (knee), was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move.

The Cardinals activated Lynn (knee) from the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Lynn will rejoin the rotation Wednesday versus the Reds after missing the last six weeks of action with right knee inflammation. He made one rehab start, allowing five runs over 3.2 innings while throwing 80 pitches for Triple-A Memphis on Sept. 1. The last couple spots in the St. Louis rotation are in flux, so Lynn likely will need to pitch well in order to continue being given additional starts down the stretch.
